1 Beverly Brennan, Criminal and Family Lawyer 2500 Airport Road South, Suite 306 Naples, Florida Tel: INTRODUCTION When people are facing criminal or family law legal matters, the attorney they choose to represent them can be one of the most crucial decisions they will ever make in their lives. Armed with more than 23 years of solid and dependable legal experience, Beverly Brennan and her comprehensive knowledge of criminal and family law issues guides her clients navigation through Florida s complex and potentially intimidating court system. Ms. Brennan handles each of her clients personally and with respect and compassion. When they need to talk to her, they will talk directly to her, not, as in many other law firms, an assistant, a paralegal or a junior lawyer. True to her dedication to her clients, she quickly returns emergency calls any time and any day. Her office associate is a legal assistant with a degree in paralegal studies, and is fluent in Spanish. When a clients court date comes up, Ms. Brennan herself will be right by their side. She works hard to fight for everything they re entitled to and will enforce all of their rights some of which many people don t even know about during this strenuous and demanding period in their lives. She tenaciously and passionately fights for her clients to the end. She manages her cases both efficiently and expediently, and wants to accomplish her clients goals as soon as is reasonably possible.
2 CRIMINAL LAW Ms. Brennan s goal is to get her clients the best possible legal resolutions, which could have fundamental and long-lasting effects on the rest of their lives. For example, the ramifications of certain criminal convictions could result in jail or prison and/or instantly prohibit the convicted from holding particular types of job. Ms. Brennan thoroughly investigates all possible defenses and mitigating circumstances of a criminal charge that will promote a favorable or reasonable outcome. In addition to her own efforts to flesh out a solid argument, Ms. Brennan, if necessary, employs private investigators to strengthen a case. She has worked on cases involving manslaughter, capital sexual battery, arson, burglary, robbery, battery, assault, child abuse, child neglect, drug offenses, petite theft, grand theft, embezzlement, white-collar crime, driving offenses, and second- and third-degree felonies. Ms. Brennan also serves as the legal counselor for persons who have been accused of an offense in visiting Florida but live in another state. She is especially adept and handling cases where someone has been accused to a serious moving violation, such as reckless driving or driving under the influence. Ms. Brennan works with clients over the phone to help them resolve their legal matters in Florida without having to return to Florida. FAMILY LAW Ms. Brennan is also an expert in family law, which encompasses topics about and related to marriage, divorce, annulment, property settlements, alimony, parental responsibility orders, spousal abuse, legitimacy, adoption, and surrogacy. She feels especially strong about cases involving children, such as custody visitation, abuse, abduction, financial support, and domestic and international abduction. Her goal is to bring stability and peace to each child s life. It serves no one to drag things out, especially when children are involved. In addition to family law, Ms. Brennan also handles affairs concerning wills, basic estate planning and power of attorney.
3 HER PHILOSOPHIES Ms. Brennan firmly believes that there is a place for mediation and negotiated-settlement agreements, instead of going to court. Taking and issue to trial can at times be the best resolutions for both parties. She gets her clients the best agreements possible, aware of the possible negative conclusion of having gone to court. Not going to court can often be advantageous in that it s much more cost efficient and expedient, and personal details can be added into a private settlement that wouldn t be possible in a courtroom setting. ABOUT MS. BRENNAN In 1986, Ms. Brennan graduated with honors from Western New England College School of Law in 1986 and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar. While in Massachusetts, she practiced family law as well as criminal defense law, in which she represented clients charged with everything from misdemeanors and traffic offenses to major felonies. Following Ms. Brennan s admission to the Florida Bar in 2001, she was appointed to the State Attorney s Office, where she was a prosecutor for three and a half years in both Lee and Collier counties. She handled dozens of jury trials and hundreds of non-jury trials, both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. This combination of experience on both sides of the process has given Ms. Brennan a thorough and vital understanding of criminal law in all its complexities. In addition, Ms. Brennan is a member of the Federal Bar and admitted to practice before the District of Massachusetts, the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She also regularly attends continuing legal education, which keeps her up-to-date regarding changes in the law. Ms. Brennan is well known among her peers and very active outside of her practice. She s a member of the Collier County Bar Association; the Collier County Women s Bar Association; the Florida Association Of Criminal Defense Lawyers; the Florida
4 Association of Women Lawyers; and a member and the current treasurer of the Collier County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Ms. Brennan s volunteer work with children and teens is extremely important to her. She strongly believes that that they need to be educated on how to be good citizens and to be aware of their legal rights and responsibilities. To that end, she serves as a judge for a teen court, which is an alternative resolution to adult court for teens who have been accused of minor offenses, such as disruption of a school function, shoplifting and marijuana possession. Ms. Brennan also voluntarily serves as a judge tournaments for local high school students in which they form teams, prepare mock court cases, present the litigation in a real courthouse and are rated. She is involved with Reality Journey (an anti-drug campaign for teenagers) and on the board of directors for the Legal Aid Service of Collier County. A FEW WORDS FROM MS. BRENNAN I don t consider my work just a job. It s very rewarding that I can make powerful and positive differences in people s personal lives. The justice system works, and if you re willing to following the court procedures and ask for what you want, the judges will listen. ATTORNEY FEES Ms. Brennan s rates reflect her extensive legal experience: For criminal cases, she offers two plans: 1) a free consultation, a fixed fee, and the possibility of a payment plan; 2) a retainer, with the amount dependant on the alleged crime. In family law cases, she charges for initial consultations, requires a substantial retainer and charges by the hour after the retainer has been depleted. She also, at times, offers a flat fee, depending on the nature of the case. There s also the opportunity for a payment plan.
5 Ms. Brennan s fees do not include possible additional costs, such as for services from sheriffs, private detectives and court reporters, as well as the costs of depositions and serving subpoenas. OFFICE HOURS Ms. Brennan welcomes prospective clients to call her office to schedule a meeting from 8:30 to 5 p.m. weekdays at ; evening and weekend hours are available by appointment.
