SAPP is perceived as a role model for development of regional cooperation by other African regions as well as internationally. One of the key roles of SAPP in the last years has been to promote and operate trading platforms to enhance the regional trading of power between the SADC countries. SAPP has gained a lot of experience through the operation of its market and during 2015 is launching the second version of its trading platform with new markets that will allow and further increase the regional trading. As SAPP is now the owner of its trading systems, a key for SAPP will be to be able to offer its services to other emerging African power pools. Trading of power will become a new field of expertise that will attract new opportunities for innovation. This seminar will give and excellent insight in how this will be implemented in the SADC region and give the participants a head-start in understanding this. The seminar will focus on the tasks that are required to bring more liquidity into the markets and promote efficient cross-border trading in medium and short term, at the same time highlight some of the required changes to the structure of the market focusing especially on the regulatory role. SEMINAR OBJECTIVES The objective of this seminar is to allow the participants to learn about the SAPP experience up to now; but most important, it will enable the participants to learn about the new market offerings of the SAPP regional trading solutions. It will focus on the new markets that will enable SAPP and its market participants to grow. In additions it will focus on the role of the regulatory authorities both in each of the individual countries, but also regionally. The seminar will contain high-profiled speakers from the SADC region, international experts and other key stakeholders.
