2 FAdC i FRAUSCHER Advanced Counter i Track vacancy detection for special requirements The FAdCi is a particularly cost-effective version of the latest generation of axle counting systems, Frauscher Advanced Counter (FAdC), designed to meet special requirements in shunting areas, industrial railways and public transportation. This system satisfies the CENELEC standards up to SIL 3 and is designed for traversing speeds of up to 80 km/h. The FAdCi enables system suppliers and operators to make use of all the benefits that the FAdC generation of axle counting systems brings in terms of functionality, flexibility and diagnostic capabilities. Application fields The axle counting system FAdCi is specially designed for use in industrial railways, shunting areas, depots and public transportation (line-of-sight). The combination of extensive functions and optimum ease of integration in higher-level applications, thanks to the optional serial interface, makes it possible to design extremely high-performance systems boasting maximum cost-effectiveness. As with all Frauscher axle counting systems, the wheel sensor families RSR180/181 and RSR122/123 once again form the basis for track vacancy detection that performs at the highest level.
3 YOUR BENEFITS: Maximum functionality Flexibility and customer-specific design Standard software interface Particularly high cost-effectiveness Maximum flexibility Due to its functional modularity and simple scalability, combined with an Ethernet interface, the FAdCi system offers an extremely high level of flexibility when it comes to configuring a very wide range of requirements. The possibilities range from small central systems with voltage-free relay contacts to complex systems located in decentralised clusters along the track and networked with one another via Ethernet. As the complexity of the systems increases, space, energy and investment cost savings compared with conventional axle counting systems also rise significantly. 2 3 Future-proof and optimal integration When FAdCi systems are integrated into electronic interlockings and other applications (distribution systems, train tracking, etc.), the benefits of this modern axle counting system become clear: minimum equipment requirements, vital future-proof communication and maximum flexibility in terms of configuration. Connection takes place via the Frauscher protocol (FSE), based on Ethernet.
4 FAdC i FRAUSCHER Advanced Counter i Operating principle The principal characteristic of the FAdC generation of axle counting systems is the functional integration of safe track vacancy detection with the evaluation of the wheel sensors on the evaluation board AEB. If a board is to monitor a track section, the specific section is determined by means of software configuration. All boards of the FAdCi conform to a proven format and are housed in 19-inch board racks. Evaluation boards AEBi communicate by means of an internal bus. The communication board COM-AdCi, which is also connected to the internal bus, provides vital data via an optional Ethernet interface. Alternatively, the clear/occupied indication can be output through extension boards IO-EXBi connected to voltage-free relay contacts that are, in turn, connected to the evaluation boards AEBi. All AEBis are designed to be redundant (per track section). This ensures maximum availability, even in the event of system failure in individual sections. The interaction between the communication boards COM-AdCi takes place via Ethernet this connection can be set up using LWL or DSL modems, for example. However, existing communication networks can also be used, as long as they correspond to class 5 or lower, in accordance with EN With additional external measures, transfer of the FAdCi data via networks of up to class 7 is also possible.
5 Evaluation board AEBi In addition to evaluation of a wheel sensor, the central evaluation board AEBi also carries out axle counting and supplies the clear/occupied indications for up to two track sections, which can be output either via a serial protocol or via relay interfaces. Using the evaluation board AEBi, up to 16 counting heads can be evaluated per track section. Double and multiple use of the wheel sensors is possible here. Communication board COM-AdCi The main task of the communication board COMi is, on the one hand, to forward counting head data via an Ethernet interface and on the other hand, to read out and provide configuration data for the AEBi boards. In addition, it provides vital axle counting data (clear/occupied indications, counting head data) to the interlocking and/or the higher-level signalling system via a customer-specific protocol, and receives the reset requests from the higher-level application in return. Power supply board PSCi The power supply board PSCi provides the necessary voltage for the internal bus and protects the FAdCi boards (up to 19 evaluation boards AEBi) from overvoltages and overcurrents. 4 5 AEBi COM-AdCi PSCi IO-EXB Extension board for digital input and output IO-EXBi The extension board IO-EXBi is used for the fail-safe output of clear/ occupied indications for up to two track sections through voltage-free relay contacts, for display of the axle counter status and for output of error codes from the track section or the evaluation board AEBi. Alternatively, the IO-EXBi can also be used to input and output fail-safe digital arguments (data transfer).
6 FAdC i FRAUSCHER Advanced Counter Simple design maximum range of functions The modularity and scaleability and the wide range of functions offered by the FAdCi provide a range of benefits, particularly when it comes to carrying out the scheduling and project planning stages for complex track vacancy detection systems. This means that a special solution can be configured for all conceivable customer requirements. Individual reset variants Due to the wide range of possible applications and operating routines, individual reset variants are required. In the FAdCi, there are various reset combinations to choose from. DIRECT Complicated Simple With verification indirect Complicated + Clearing of track Simple + Clearing of track With verification + Clearing of track Double-sided (Block operation) Double-sided + Clearing of track (block operation) Example of reset variants Counting head information When traversing counting heads, in addition to simple wheel detection, further information such as direction, counter status, etc. can be transmitted to the higher-ranking application. Decentralised or centralised architecture Due to the scaleable and modular principle of the FAdCi system, combined with the software interface, both centralised and decentralised architectures can be configured, as can a mixture of the two types. Counting head control The patented counting head control function configures the stand-by mode for individual counting heads, meaning that interference (such as work on the track) is suppressed. Using configurable traversing criteria, the counting heads are safely activated again and are available for wheel detection. Virtual track sections The creation of virtual, higher-ranking track sections offers further possibilities for more efficient organisation of rail operations.
7 Efficient configuration with software tools The name FAdCi stands not only for a modern, flexible hardware and software platform, but also for an integrated solution that consistently supports all processes from scheduling, project planning/configuration, diagnostics and simulation to maintenance and adaptation, with the aid of innovative software tools. Based on extensive useability tests and design studies, the user interfaces are designed to be exceptionally user-friendly and intuitive to operate. Configuration Moreover, the redeveloped software tools offer enormous potential for saving, as you can carry out the configuration, diagnosis or simulation yourself. You can map the track plan easily and quickly using dragand-drop functions. All other information such as the configuration files and design documentation is generated automatically. This reduces the configuration and test outlay considerably, and further changes can be made in the course of the project without incurring high additional costs. Diagnostics Preventative maintenance, the optimisation of fault rectification, unrestricted online access to data from the axle counting system and the minimisation of maintenance work lead to a reduction in life-cycle costs. The Frauscher diagnostics systems are designed for this. Using the software interface, it is possible to access all of the static and dynamic data from the individual boards. This means that all conceivable requirements of modern higherranking diagnostics systems can be met. 6 7 Simulation The verification processes for systems that are configured using software present particular requirements. An efficient simulation environment is necessary in order to ensure that they can be processed easily and quickly, and can be traced and automated. The FAdCi system configurations can be simulated, tested and verified easily.
