In pursuit of further excellence in the domain of management, Faculty of Business Management & Commerce, anjab University, in its golden jubilee year , launched another star Institute University Institute of Applied Management Sciences with its acronym UIAMS. The Institute draws on the academic strength and resources of anjab University. 12 physical facilities U library UIAMS library I.T. infrastructure AC Joshi library at U is recognized as one of the best libraries in INDIA. Library has reading a room available 24x7. The Library has a collection of over 6.4 lakh publications which include books, bound volumes of journals, theses/dissertations, rare books, reports, government documents, back files of newspapers, and a prized collection of 1490 manuscripts. The Library is now fully computerized with an integrated system connected to the Campus Network providing Internet and facility to the University community. Collection: 6,70,000 Current eriodicals: 660 Staff: About 100 Membership: Over 10,000 Keeping in mind the growing needs of students, the institute has an established library in the campus. 19 print journals, 25 magazines, 4416 books, 200 journals that can be accessed free online within campus on intranet and 11 newspapers with 9 in english and 2 in hindi. UIAMS is equipped with two state of the art computer labs, with all the terminals connected to broadband internet. Moreover the institute is Wi-Fi enabled. The institute has one of its own kinds of virtual library called the Cyberary. In addition to this the department has seminar halls to facilitate guest lecturers with full audiovisual aids and computers. 10

13 class rooms hostel sports The institute boasts of latest technology equipped class rooms with laptops and all relevant audio visual aids. The class rooms have ergonomically developed furniture, LCD & Overhead projectors, Sound system etc. The anjab University offers eight boys and nine girls hostels accommodating around 5500 students. The residential facilities for all students are wi-fi enabled. UIAMS is located in Chandigarh which is the "Gateway to the North" and is on its way to build an Information Technology park, on the lines of other Techno- Savvy cities in India. Educational activities are the hallmark of Chandigarh, its focal point the anjab University. The infrastructure of UIAMS offers the right opportunities for self- learning, knowledge building and exploring ones potential. anjab University has a magnificent air-conditioned gymnasium hall for in-door games with international standard facilities and equipment for badminton, table-tennis, weight lifting, judo and wrestling. A separate fitness centre for women and a well equipped physiotherapy laboratory has also been established in the gymnasium hall. A swimming pool of international dimensions is also available in the university campus which is used for all the swimming competitions. Recently a Shooting range has also been added. 11

14 student activities calibur: Calibur a debate competition was held in UIAMS organized by management club wherein 10 teams participated with 2 members each.. It was great opportunity for students to show their skills and put out their thoughts on topic: Is Our olitical System Responsible For Our Backwardness? It was a creative event that aimed to put the best mind from the academic world against each other. Judgment was made on the parameters like resourcefulness, presentation skills, clarity of concepts etc.. ranbhoomi: Ranbhoomi was a sports day event organized by UIAMS for 3 days in University. It is a keenly contested big event with large number of participation in various games like CRICKET, BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, KHO KHO, TT, and FOOTBALL ETC. UIAMS cricket league stole the show during the annual sports meet at anjab University grounds. conferences and guest lectures To make the students aware of the recent developments in their particular sectors and to give them knowledge about life in the corporate world, the institute invites eminent personalities from various industries and institutions to lend valuable information and share their experiences with the students. The Students are also encouraged to attend various conferences that happen in and around the university campus so that they can stay updated in their respective fields in particular. 12

15 cultural activities: The institute provides the students with the opportunities to participate in the various cultural activities like akhand path, lohri celebrations, welcoming the juniors via fresher's party and honouring the seniors through farewell and alumni meets. UIAMS teams are indispensible part of U activities like Vimarsh and cultural fests. avsar - campus placement drive: The central placement cell of anjab University along with UIAMS organised a campus placement drive AVSAR on 6 & 7, March 2014 for students from all streams of the university. A total of 36 companies participated for recruitments at the drive. The drive was conceptualized in collaboration with the anjab University Campus Students Council (UCSC). The whole process was managed by students of UIAMS. e-cell - prayaas: rayaas is an initiative of UIAMS to develop Entrpreneurial skills among management students. In this event students are encouraged to float a new business idea and implement in the real world. RAYAAS 's objective is to highlight various problems and suggest viable solutions. This event is all about picking up common problems of the society, and turning them into successful business ventures. The tagline of E-cell is 'Innopreneurs- Innovative Entrepreneurs", in self we believe'. The vision of the Ecell is to inculcate a spirit of entrepreneurship in students and to enhance creativity and innovation. It provides a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs. 13
