1 SECTION REFERENCE STANDARDS PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 REFERENCE STANDARDS A. Throughout the Contract Documents, references are made to codes and standards which establish qualities and types of workmanship and materials, and which establish methods for testing, programming and reporting on the pertinent characteristics. B. Various Codes and Standards such as the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA), American Public Transit Association (APTA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society For Testing and Material (ASTM), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), International Electro-Technical Commission (IEC), Federal Transit Administration (FRA), and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) documents mentioned in this Technical Specification are examples acceptable to the Engineer. Material standards and specifications which are used by the Contractor, unless otherwise approved by the Engineer, shall be of those organizations (such as ASME or ASTM) which are based in the United States, or are generally used on a commercial basis in the United States. The applicable document revision shall be that in effect on the date of Proposal submission. Alternate recognized standards may be suggested by Proposers in their detailed Technical Proposal if submitted with sufficient supporting information to establish equivalency. C. Additionally, the specified standards of this Technical Specification may be replaced with Engineer approved equivalent standards proposed by the Contractor after Contract award.
