2 LOWER NORTH SHORE YOUTH GUIDE 2013 The Lower North Shore Youth Guide aims to provide information about services for young people in the Lane Cove, North Sydney, Willoughby and Mosman Council areas. 3 YOUTH CENTRES Chatswood Youth Centre (CYC) - Willoughby City Council CYC is a free, safe and fun space for young people years old to chill out, meet friends or make new ones, learn new skills, volunteer and much more. Facilities include games consoles, pool, table tennis, basketball, soccer, skate/scooter ramps & rails, internet access and lounge areas. If you would like to chat, are after information or some support, there are always Youth Workers on shift to help you out, or just to take you on in your favourite game. CYC has a music room equipped with a variety of instruments, mics, and P.A. for hire at only $4p/hr. For bookings call CYC during opening hours. Programs and events through the year include breaking, popping, k-pop and hip-hop dance classes, band nights, mall performances, skate sessions, arts workshops, girls programs (Glambition) and more. Mosman Youth Centre - Mosman Council The Mosman Youth Development Centre is a free community service for young people years accessing or residing in the Mosman area. The Centre provides a safe space for young people to relax, socialise and interact. Young people have access to many free services including internet access, kitchen facilities and leisure games (pool, table tennis, foosball, etc). The Youth Centre staff co-ordinate various activities, events and programs to meet the active recreational and leisure developmental needs of local young people. Mosman Youth Centre provides information and referral services for both young people and the community and assists with questions around employment and education issues, resumes and referrals to other services and facilities. The Youth Centre is located at 30 The Crescent, Mosman, under Mosman Library and opposite the Allan Border Oval. 4 YOUTH CENTRES Planet X Youth Centre - North Sydney Council Planet X Youth Centre is a drop-in centre for young people aged 12 to 18 living, working and studying in the North Sydney area. It is a relaxed, safe environment for young people to socialise, have fun and make use of the free facilities such as pool table, computers and internet access, ping-pong table, Playstation 3, DVDs, board games, sports equipment and much more. Planet X also runs organised activities like BBQs, Girls Only nights, cooking lessons, sports activities, pool and table tennis competitions, art programs, youth events and excursions. There is also a well equipped music studio where young people can jam or record their songs using the latest technology. Planet X also offers assistance with resumes, job skills, homework, education, employment, accommodation and other issues that young people may face. Planet X is the white building located in St Leonard s Park, close to the Cnr of Falcon and Miller Streets in North Sydney. We are open Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 6pm and Saturdays 1pm. to 5pm. For more information you can contact Planet X Youth Centre on or planetx@ bigpond.net.au Synergy Youth Centre - Lane Cove Council Synergy Youth Centre is an information, recreation and referral service for young people between the ages of years who live in the Lane Cove area. Synergy is located at 1 Little Street, Lane Cove and is open Tuesday -Thursday 3.00 pm pm, Friday 3.00 pm pm and Saturday pm pm. Drop in anytime for a game of Pool, Table Tennis or Basketball. Use the Internet, play music, Play-Station 3, foosball, Xbox Kinect, Wii, watch TV on the big screen, lounge on the couches, get homework help, or buy some food from the Café. Synergy Youth Centre offers a wide range of organised activities and workshops. Some of these include: School holiday activities, Cook-ups, DVD/Pizza Nights, Aerosol Art, Jewellery Making, Skate sessions, Basketball Competitions, Pool Competitions, BBQs, Craft and Excursions. SAM seeks to increase the ability of young people to look after themselves and to provide support to friends in need. SAM provides young people with the skills and knowledge to prevent, recognise and respond to alcohol and other drug related emergencies.
