8 EIREANN ANASTASI 16 When Eireann Anastasi was searching for the right college, she wanted one that was not too large and where she would receive individualized attention when it came to academics, specifically accounting. Location was a key as well or, as the Philadelphia native put it, Close to home, but not too close. She also wanted a school where she could continue her basketball career. When it came to Delaware Valley University, Anastasi got all of that and more. The head coach of the Aggie women s basketball team, Laura Hogan (nee Rotz) attended the same high school (Saint Hubert) as Anastasi. She also grew up in the Northeast Section of the city and then attended Delaware Valley where she graduated in 1990 as the school s all-time leading scorer (now third with 1,413 points) and was later inducted into its Hall of Fame. So when Anastasi made the decision to attend Delaware Valley and play for Hogan, I got a little of bit of home away from home. And Delaware Valley got one of the top players in women s basketball history and a superior student-athlete. A two-time all-freedom Conference honoree and the 2013 Rookie of the Year, Anastasi has racked up 1,208 points and 301 assists in the first three years of her career. Those totals are both in the top 15 on the school s all-time list and if she puts up similar numbers in her senior campaign, she can move all the way up to second place in both categories. The team has also succeeded with Anastasi on its roster. The Aggies have reached the postseason in each of the last two seasons with berths in the Freedom Conference semifinals and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region quarterfinals both times. Off the court, Anastasi has received numerous academic honors, including twice being named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women s Basketball Team. She has just two undergraduate courses remaining and has actually starting taking some MBA classes in the summer. She will take both undergraduate and graduate courses in the fall and then more graduate courses in the spring. Anastasi is hoping to study for her certified public accountant exam next summer and then enter the field in some capacity. Delaware Valley University has given me so much on and off the court, Anastasi said. It was the right choice for me.

10 FAC ILITIES Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium is a multi-sport artificial turf field featuring a three-lane recreational jogging track and lights for night games. It hosts DelVal football, field hockey, men s lacrosse, women s lacrosse, men s soccer and women s soccer home contests. James Work Gymnasium, which also houses the Rudley Neumann Gymnasium, is home to men s basketball, women s basketball, volleyball and wrestling contests as well as intramural events and the strength and conditioning room (weight room) Six regulation-size tennis courts for our men s and women s teams were constructed on campus last year Men s golf competes at the Five Ponds Golf Club and Huntingdon Valley County Club courses

13 RASHAAD LIGHTY 16 For the first three years of his collegiate football career at Delaware Valley University, Rashaad Lighty has played under the radar. Last year, all the attention went to the record-breaking offensive trio of quarterback Aaron Wilmer, running back Chris Smallwood and wide receiver Rasheed Bailey as they put up numbers in their senior year that ranked among the best in the country. Even on the defensive side of the ball where Lighty resides, fellow classmate Danny Wynne was always been the first player mentioned. While the previously mentioned four received the attention, Lighty was putting up impressive numbers of his own in He moved back to outside linebacker after one year on the defensive line and racked up 56 tackles, including 11 behind the line of scrimmage. His 8.5 sacks led the team and were second in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), and he had an interception return for a touchdown in the big showdown with archrival Widener University. Lighty s play helped Delaware Valley get off to a 9-0 start and qualify for the NCAA Division III playoffs. He was rewarded for his season by earning a spot on the all-mac first team and the D3football.com all-east Region second team for the first time in his career. This year, Lighty is a preseason All-America candidate and has even been mentioned in one national preseason publication. Goodbye obscurity, hello notoriety. Lighty is fine either way. I liked the idea of being under the radar and being someone that people didn t know about, Lighty said. At the same time, I m also good with the pressure that there s now. I just want to go out and play and not get caught up in any hype. Lighty is slated to graduate with a degree in criminal justice and has career goals in mind. I plan on working towards becoming a state trooper, he said. Down the road, I may go to law school and become a lawyer. I just want to make a difference.
