2 STEM NETWORK The purpose of the West Sound STEM Network is to serve as a hub that links students, teachers and the community to STEM resources.

3 What is a STEM network? A STEM Network is an action-oriented partnership of multiple organizations within a defined geographic area, working in concert toward the common goal of student success in STEM. This community-based strategy engages schools, nonprofits, businesses, and others to drive innovation and improvements in STEM teaching and learning at a systems level.

4 What the West Sound STEM Network Does Work cooperatively and collaboratively to strengthen the implementation of STEM innovations, ensuring the inclusion of a variety of perspectives. Creates a foundation for working together to maximize and equitably use existing resources, and leverage efforts to garner more resources. Generate priorities and consolidate initiatives to marshal resources to promote highly effective STEM opportunities. Provides a two-way communication conduit between the STEM network members and the community. Respond to emerging needs and adapt to changes enhancing the sustainability of STEM initiatives.

6 WEST SOUND STEM NETWORK STEM Education Leadership Institute and Communications Training supported initial network development. Washington STEM advised network development. West Sound STEM Network recruited to be included as fourth network in WA STEM statewide network. Anticipated funding of business planning phase of network development to be completed by April West Sound STEM network regional activities since 2012 include open network meetings and the first annual West Sound STEM Showcase. Leadership Team activities include outreach presentations, network development and resource identification.

7 Last Year s Accomplishments Established network connections through meetings and virtual communications. Developed network structure, including mission and vision, and communication tools. Sponsored first annual West Sound STEM showcase, involving dozens of booth host and hundreds of visitors.

8 This Year s Plan Continue to establish and broaden network structure with support of Washington STEM Host STEM Café Networking gatherings to foster shared learning Create virtual Showcases of outstanding STEM programs Seek opportunity to create virtual interface matching STEM resources with areas of STEM need Sponsor second annual West Sound Showcase at Kitsap Mall
