Note: If you don t want to discover a certain device type, for example End System or IP Phone, you can check these device types in the Do-Not-Scan window. 1.2 Click the Start Discovery button to start the job manually, or you can schedule the rediscovery task to run on your scheduled time by choosing Workspace > Schedule from the top navigation menu. Note: You need to keep the admin WS client running to start the scheduled discovery. 1.3 After the discovery is finished, choose the Export Results option in the Live Network Discovery window right click menu to export to your PC. This is an optional step to view the logs which include all scanned IPs NetBrain can ping/snmp/telnet/ssh successfully or not. 2 Fine tune workspace Navigate to the Workspace menu, and click on Manager to open the Workspace Manager window 2.1 Review unknown IPs: In the Workspace Manager window, choose Unknown IP which lists all IPs NetBrain failed to discover due to CLI/snmp failed. If there are any IPs/devices with different login/snmp credentials, or there are FW rules or ACLs blocking NetBrain access, resolve the NetBrain NS server access issue and then rerun discovery on those IPs. OE v5.0 support@netbraintech.com 3
2.2 Remove decommissioned devices: First verify those devices cannot be discovered, then remove them from the workspace. - In the Workspace Manager window, choose Missed Devices and then select all entries. Right-click on the selected entries and then choose Discover Selected Device(s). - In the Live Network Discovery window, choose Scan IP Range with the options below: - After the discovery is completed, reopen the Missed Devices report. Remove the devices that have not been discovered for certain period of time (e.g. 7 days) by sorting on the Last Modified Time field, then select Remove Selected Devices From Workspace. Note: You can modify which devices should be removed from this table according to your requirements. OE v5.0 support@netbraintech.com 4
2.3 Rediscover SNMP-only devices: - Navigate to the Workspace menu and click on Manager. In the Workspace Manager window, choose Discovered by SNMP, and then select all entries at the right. - Right-click on the selected entries and then choose Discover Selected Device(s). - Discover using Scan IP Range with same options as in step After discovery, reopen the Discovered by SNMP table, check all IPs/devices to allow NetBrain NS server snmp access by updating FW rules or ACLs. 2.4 Update unknown SNMP OID devices: In the Workspace Manager window, choose Unknown SNMP sysobjectid to view all devices/ips with OIDs that are not in the NetBrain supported vendor/model table. - Right click on one entry and choose Send to NetBrain, so NetBrain will update the supported vendor/model list to include this OID. - Right click on the same entry again and choose Add to Vendor Model Table. Choose the best matched Device Type, select the Vendor, enter the Model, and click OK. OE v5.0 support@netbraintech.com 5
- Rediscover the device from the Unclassified Network Devices list. Right click on the entry and choose Discover Selected IPs. 2.5 Review and cleanup duplicate IPs: In the Workspace Manager window, choose Duplicate IP to list all duplicate IPs with devices hostnames and interfaces. Users should check the live network devices and clean up the duplicate IP configuration. 3 Export results 3.1 Set loopback interface as management IP for all devices (optional): At the top left corner, click on the NetBrain icon and then choose Options. Options window, select the Live Access tab. In the In the Management Interface Selection OE v5.0 support@netbraintech.com 6
Order section, modify the management interface selection order as you desire (e.g. Loopback100;loopback;vlan;g;f). Click the Apply button. (It may take a few minutes.) 3.2 Export asset report and customized report: Navigate to the Home menu, and click on Asset Report. In the Asset Report window, choose Create Asset Report. In the Asset Report window, right click on Entire Network-Site and then choose Export Customized Report 3.3 Find all new devices (optional): Open the device report.csv file, and sort on the findtime field to find the latest discovered devices during the scheduled auto discovery. See sample screenshot below: 4 Update hostname changed devices and login credentials 4.1 Run Tune Live Access to make sure all management IPs can be accessed via SNMP/CLI, and check if the hostname has changed by using the following options (this process may take 20 minutes per 1000 nodes): OE v5.0 support@netbraintech.com 7
4.2 In the Tune Shared Network Settings window, sort the Hostname column, multi-select (using Shift/Ctrl keys in keyboard) the hostname changed entries whose value in the hostname field is not Unchanged, right click and select Discover Selected IP to launch the Live Network Discovery window in step # Switch back to the Tune Shared Network Settings window, from the same right click menu, choose Remove from workspace to delete all devices with old hostnames from NetBrain server workspace. 4.4 Switch to the Live Network Discovery window and click on Start Discovery to rediscover the IPs with new hostnames. OE v5.0 8
4.5 Switch back to Tune Shared Network Settings window, sort by the Telnet, Login, Enable, and SNMP columns to see which devices failed on that type of access (CLI/snmp), and export the whole table to a spreadsheet by right clicking on the table and choose Export Results. You can also analyze the table to update FW rules, ACLs, new credentials (login/password/snmp_string) and make sure NetBrain has full access from NS server to all network devices via CLI/snmp. 5 Server benchmark and local CLI 5.1 Setup server benchmark: This is to enable NetBrain server to auto backup live network data. - Navigate to the Workspace menu and click on Benchmark > Server Benchmark to launch the WSS (workspace server) web page. Set the benchmark schedule to daily, weekly, or monthly based on your needs. Check all options for live data, and click Submit. - Click View Logs to view the historical benchmark status OE v5.0 support@netbraintech.com 9
- Click the DataFolder tab to check the size of benchmark data - Click Data Storage Settings to define how many days of data to keep. Suggestion: 30~90 days for DataFolder, 7~15 days for One-IP Table. 5.2 Setup local CLI access: This is to setup your own Tacacs account login credentials to telnet/ssh to live network devices from your own workstation or Jumpbox. - Navigate to the Workspace menu and click on Settings in the Local Network Settings section. Add you Tacacs account username/password. - In Local Jumpbox tab (optional, only if your workstation can t directly CLI to network devices), enter all fields about your Unix based Jumpbox and make sure all login, password, and command prompts are correct, and then click Test to verify. - Navigate to the Workspace menu and click on Tune in the Local Network Settings section, click Start Tuning to verify if your Tacacs account works or not. - Select any device from the Workspace pane or in a qmap, right click and choose Telnet/SSH CLI to verify the CLI access.
