3 Smoke alarms they re the law Did you know that by law, every residential property must have smoke alarms installed? Industry standards recommend: Smoke alarm batteries be replaced at least once per year Smoke alarm maintenance, including testing and cleaning, be conducted on a regular basis, at least once per year Full replacement of smoke alarms every 10 years or sooner if indicated or if faulty What does the REIV say? The REIV recommends that agents engage a contractor to maintain smoke alarms in rental properties. In fact, new legislation is on the way which will make it compulsory. Proper testing of smoke alarms requires more than just pushing a button. And with 7 out of 10 smoke alarms not operating properly in the event of a fire it s just too important to ignore. 5 New Carbon Monoxide Alarm Service A legal requirement for all rental properties - legislation coming soon A Bill recently passed in Federal Parliament will require all residential properties with gas appliances (gas heaters, stoves) be fitted with carbon monoxide alarms to alert occupants of potentially deadly gas emissions the invisible poison. While the exact details of the legislation are yet to be released, we are moving fast to make sure we can provide you and your landlords with a two in one service that covers both smoke alarms and carbon alarms. 2-UP Protect TM Our new scheduled maintenance program 2-UP-Protect offers a 2-in-1 service where both smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm services can be conducted at the same time to minimise any further disruption to tenants and agents.
