Course Description & Introduction Human relations management skills on the job site. Topics include written and oral communications, leadership and motivation, problem solving, and decision making. V. Learning Outcomes The student will: Define terms associated with construction supervision, leadership, motivation, problem solving, and decision making. Demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills in construction problems.

(Note: Grades for all Major courses must be C or better) Student Evaluation: Daily Assignments*= 25% Daily Participation= 25% Mid Term/Final*= 25% Lab Project*= 25% *Note: It is the student s responsibility, if absent, to inquire about missed assignments. Skills Validation Successful completion of the course requires a rating of Accomplished or Competent in the total number of skills validated. Validations will consist of scenarios in which the student must demonstrate their skills to meet the requirements or solve the issues in the scenarios. Some scenarios may include fill-in the blank, short answer, and lists. Each validation is given one of the four following ratings: Beginning, Developing, Competent, or Accomplished. Practice Lab Activities are used to assess skills progress, but are not used to calculate the final grade. Labs may consist of data collection, hands-on learning exercises, short answer questions, and/or write-ups, depending on the individual lab. Policy of this Department: Students are expected to attend all lectures and labs. If a student misses more than 20% of the class periods, the instructor will assign the student an F. This policy does not affect the right of the student to drop a course before the mandated deadline or the right of the instructor to assign, with approval of the department chair, an IP under the appropriate extenuating circumstances. Responsibility for dropping a course lies solely with the student. B. Instructor s Policy: Department s participation policy will be enforced. C. Integrity: You are expected to maintain absolute integrity in all scholastic work. This is true in the workplace as well. As stated in the Student Code of Conduct, TSTC Catalogue: Any attempt on your part to receive credit for work other than your own by cheating, plagiarizing, or collusion will be the basis for disciplinary action. An accessory to an act of cheating shares the guilt with the principal, and is dealt with in the same manner. This means a zero will be received on the exam and you will be dropped from the program. D. Behavior: Students are expected to behave in a manner that is respectful of others in the class. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. You will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to make up any work missed.

6 Course Syllabus Page 6 Continual disruption will result in permanent removal from the class. XI. XII. Safety A. Campus building occupants are required to evacuate buildings when a fire alarm activates. Alarm activation or announcement requires exiting and assembling outside. B. Familiarize yourself with all exit doors of each classroom and building you may occupy while receiving instructions. The nearest exit door may not be the door you used when entering the building. C. Students requiring evacuation assistance should inform the instructor during the first week of class. D. In the event of evacuation, follow the faculty s or class instructor s instructions. E. Do Not re-enter a building unless given instructions by the Fire Department, Campus/Local Police, or Fire Prevention Services. F. All students in this course will comply with all general safety rules, which apply to the type of activity in progress in each class. Violation of course safety rules can result in grade penalties and/or other appropriate disciplinary action. Special Needs TSTC complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If a student has a condition, such as a physical or mental disability, which will make it difficult for them to carry out the work as outlined, or which will require extra time on examinations, please notify the instructor or the Counseling and Testing Office in the first two (2) weeks of the course so appropriate arrangements can be made.
