1 Practical information for invited participants Indo-Spanish Conference on Geometry and Analysis ICMAT, Madrid, September 2012 Note: If the organizers are covering your travel expenses, please keep the boarding passes for all your air journeys and all the travel tickets and taxi receipts. Please bring them and your passport to the venue of the conference on Monday 10 Sep. If you have electronic copies of boarding passes and/or a scanned copy of your passport, please send them to Esther Fuentes at her address esther.fuentes@icmat.es From the airport to Residencia de Estudiantes The accommodation for the invited speakers and the organizers has been arranged at Residencia de Estudiantes (web telephone ). To go from the airport to Residencia de Estudiantes using public transportation, we recommend to take the metro in the airport. Go to Nuevos Ministerios, then change train, to line number 6, and go to República Argentina. From there you can go to the main entrance of CSIC (a complex of research centres), in street Serrano, number 117, and ask the security guard. Residencia de Estudiantes is in the same complex, at the back of the main building. The complex has another entrance to the south, in street Pinar, but there is no security guard in this entrance and it is only open until 22:00, so we advise you to go to the main entrance of CSIC in street Serrano. You can also go by taxi from the airport to the Residencia de Estudiantes. Its address is Calle del Pinar, 21, Madrid (i.e., 21 Pinar Street, Madrid). The street Pinar is a small street, which has no security guard in its entrance and this entrance is only open until 22:00, so we advise you to tell the taxi driver to go to street Serrano, number 117. This is the main entrance of the main campus of CSIC (a complex of research centres). The Residence in inside this complex, at the back of the main buildining. At the entrance you can ask the security guard. The ride should cost around 30 Euros. Please ask for a receipt ( recibo in Spanish) to the taxi driver when you arrive at the Residencia).

3 Note: As you can see in the map, the metro stations Nuevos Ministerios (lines 6, 8 and 10) and Gregorio Marañón (line 10) are also good options to go to Residencia. If you go to Nuevos Ministerios from the airport, you don't have to change train, but you have to walk for around 10 minutes from Nuevos Ministerios to the Residencia. The walk from Gregorio Marañón to the Residencia is the shortest. In both cases you will have to walk uphill. From Residencia de Estudiantes to the venue of the conference The conference will take place at ICMAT (Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas), which is in Cantoblanco Universidad. This is the main campus of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Its address is: ICMAT, Calle Nicolás Cabrera, number 13-15, Madrid; telephone The conference venue is about 16 Km away from the Residencia. If you decide to go to the venue of the conference on your own, please note that it can take around one hour to go from Residencia de Estudiantes to ICMAT using public transportation and remember to bring cash to buy your train tickets. Walk to the station Nuevos Ministerios. Nuevos Ministerios contains both a metro and a local train station. Go to the local train station -in Spanish: cercanías. The cercanías logo is: (red). Buy a ticket before you board the train. The fare depends on where you go. You have to buy a ticket to the station Cantoblanco Universidad. A one-way ticket costs around 1.70 and a 10-journey ticket costs around Take the train line C-4, direction either to Alcobendas/San Sebastián de los Reyes or Colmenar Viejo. The journey from Nuevos Ministerios to Cantoblanco Universidad takes around 16 minutes. From the station Cantoblanco Universidad, it is a 1.5 Km walk to ICMAT. 5 Meals, coffee breaks, registration and wifi Breakfast will be provided at the Residencia. Lunch has been arranged for invited and registered participants at the venue of the conference from Monday to Friday. There will be coffee breaks in the morning and afternoon sessions. Please inform Esther Fuentes ( if you have any special diet requirement, such as vegetarian or vegan. The conference registration will start at ICMAT on Monday at 9:30 and the first lecture will start at 10:00. This restaurant is situated within 10 minutes walking distance of the Residencia de Estudiantes, where invited participants will be lodged (see next page): Restaurante Doña 59 Address: Calle de Zurbano, 59 (59 Zurbano Street) Phone: Dinners for the rest of the week are not provided by the organization, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby the Residencia. Two vegetarian options are restaurants Ecocentro (in Calle de Esquilache, number 2, close to metro Isla Filipinas, or 25-minute walking distance) and Isla del Tesoro (in Calle de Manuela Malasaña, 3, close to metro Bilbao, or 30-minute walking distance). Other vegetarian options are shown in the attached map (last two pages) and in the conference web site ( Although a per diem will be provided for invited participants, the payment will most likely be done after the conference has finished, so we kindly ask you to bring cash (in euros) for the dinners during the conference. Wifi: internet is available at the venue of the conference using the wireless network isc2012 (the password will be provided in the venue of the conference). Wifi is also available at the Residencia (please ask for the password at the reception desk of the Residencia).
