3 STEM 6 8 Program Goals Middle School Core Goals STEM Equity STEM students self identify and student participation reflects the diversity and gender of the school district STEM Curriculum STEM students are exposed to the same standards but a unique and interdisciplinary curriculum that is distinct from non STEM students. Professional Learning All STEM teachers must have initial and ongoing individual and team training in STEM philosophy, pedagogy, curriculum, and business/industry experience. Teacher Collaboration STEM teachers must be highly collaborative in planning integrated lessons, involving the community and responding to learning outcomes. Comprehensive Immersion Comprehensive immersion with STEM Careers through authentic projects 6th 8 th that increase in complexity and rigor Authentic Assessment Focus on Authentic Assessment and capture the evidence of learning through digital portfolios Technology as a Tool Increase utilization and access to technology, develop a 6 8 continuum of technological tools. Mathematics Transition Completion of Algebra 1 by the end of 8 th grade (beginning with next year s 6 th grade students)
