4 NCRA s Formal Education Program The NCRA established its formal education program to accomplish two goals: 1. Provide schools, colleges, and university's the ability to offer career training for Cancer Registrars. 2. Provide the opportunity for access to educational programs for individuals interested in a career as a Cancer Registrar. 10 NCRA Approved Formal Education Programs Classroom training and Internet Training Opportunities are BOTH available 11 Mentoring Education NCRA's 'Partners in Education' (PIE) offers valuable resources for Formal Education programs and promising Cancer Registry professionals. PIE helps establish a collaborative network between Cancer Registries, Cancer Registry schools and students. 12

5 NCRA's CTR Exam Prep Workshop This special 2 day workshop is designed to prepare candidates for the Certified Tumor Registrars Credentialing Exam (CTR Exam). 12 Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) NCRA s Council on Certification manages the CTR credential 34 CTR Certification ensures quality results 35 CTR Certification Establishes a standard of knowledge and experience Measures the requisite knowledge of CTR applicants Promotes professional growth and individual study Formally recognizes Cancer Registrars who meet certification requirements Assists employers, members of allied health professions, and the public in the assessment of cancer registrars 36

13 Cancer Registrars who meet eligibility requirements and pass the CTR examination are awarded the CTR credential. NCRA s Council on Certification sets the certification standards. 37 Current Eligibility Requirements for CTR Exam Two years of Cancer Registry experience; or Completion of an NCRA-approved college-level level curriculum in Cancer Registry/cancer data and management; or 38 Current CTR Requirements cont d Completing a minimum of an associate s degree in a NCRA- approved college-level level curriculum in an allied health field and one year of Cancer Registry experience; or Credentialed or licensed status in an approved allied health field and one year of Cancer Registry experience; or 39

14 Current CTR Requirements cont d Completion of a Master s level or higher college-level level curriculum in an allied health field and one year of Cancer Registry experience NCRA s Council on Certification Web site 40 Ways To Maintain Your Credential To maintain a certified status a person must: Meet current continuing education requirements of NCRA. In order to retain the CTR credential, a CTR must submit 20 continuing education hours to NCRA every two years NCRA's online Case Scenarios are a fast and convenient way to earn additional CE Hours while brushing up on your abstracting techniques. Submit the applicable continuing education maintenance fee on an annual basis. 41 Rapidly changing technology and treatment options necessitate continuing education 42
