Oftentimes, depletion of additive molecules does not result in any significant change in the atomic fingerprint since depletion by-products remain suspended or dissolved in the oil. Note: organic additives don t have elemental markers Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) FTIR can be used to monitor additive depletion.
