File Size Limit: 15K POLITE LOAD Polite loads are only accepted in HTML5 files and will not be accepted in SWF Flash files. An additional load of 100K is allowed. CONTENT Ads must not be designed to blend in with the site, mimic editorial fonts/ colors, include fake form elements or incorporate graphic symbols that represent non-existent functionality. 8 RICH MEDIA Rich Media is considered any ad unit that is not contained within a standard display ad position, including the sliding billboard, peelback, reskin, one ad, expandable, interstitial, freeform, video and hover. Most rich media ad units require the use of 3rd party vendors to host and serve their unique functionality. SMS is a communications service that allows the exchange of short text messages, limited to 160 characters, between mobile phones. It is also referred to as text messaging or texting. SMS campaigns produced by Tribune properties are supported on virtually every mobile phone device in the world. SMS CAMPAIGNS Alerts & Non-Alerts Text2Win Users can enter a sweepstakes via text of a keyword. Bounce back message delivered to users to confirm entrance in sweepstakes. Text4Info Users send keyword via text and receive one bounce back message to obtain specific information. Examples: Text for a coupon, to see store hours, or receive link to a mobile site Text2Vote Users can vote on different options via keywords. Text votes are tallied and can generate a bounce back message with the percentage breakout of votes. 24 MARKETING Admails are e-blasts, which are deployed to Tribune users, to advertise a client s product/service. An HTML and TEXT version is deployed with every admail and delivered to each user based on their registration preference. HTML VERSION: Formatted Imagery And Copy Dimensions Overall width must not exceed 600 pixels. No height requirements. File Size Limit Total sum of images must not exceed 100K file size Assets Please supply final HTML file and all images in JPG/GIF format that are contained within the admail. Animated GIF and SWF files are not accepted.

25 MARKETING [CONTINUED] (CONT.) TEXT VERSION: Unformatted Copy Assets Supply admail copy unformatted in a TEXT or Word doc file. SUBJECT LINE Must contain the advertiser s name and a reference to the promotion. Please keep the subject line simple, honest and straightforward. LINKS Provide all click-through URLs and document their location in both the HTML and TEXT versions of the admail. OPT-OUT We recommend the client provide an electronic address (link or ) and mailing address to be placed in the footer of the admail to allow users to have the option to unsubscribe from all of the client s future admails. These opt-outs are to be collected by the client, not Tribune. In the case subsequent admails are deployed through a Tribune property, the list of opt-out addresses would be cross-referenced with the users in Tribune s database and removed from the deployment list. BEST PRACTICES Avoid using dark backgrounds with light-colored text, as some clients do not support background formatting in HTML. Do not use cascading style sheets (CSS) to format HTML, as it does not render in certain clients. Inline style sheets do render properly. Do not use background images, as they cause the layout to appear incorrectly in different browsers. Use formatted text in HTML to display information important to the admail s message. Images should only be used to enhance the look and feel of an admail, since clients allow users to block images in received mail. Only the following fonts are accepted as HTML text in admails: Arial, Arial Black, Book Antiqua, Charcoal, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Gadget, Geneva, Georgia, Impact, Lucida Console, Lucida Grande, Lucida Sans Unicode, Monaco, MS Sans Serif, New York, Palatino Linotype, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, Verdana.

28 RESPONSIVE SITE NEXT GENERATION. TRULY RESPONSIVE. The digital environment is continuously progressing and Tribune is launching new responsive design websites. This design allows the site to adjust based on the user s screen size. Highlights from this new design include visual browse and infinite scroll. The visual browse is a collection of images from articles across the site filtered by the page the user is on. Infinite scroll allows the user to scroll into the next section of content. Advertising specifications for the responsive sites are below. Allentown Morning Call, Baltimore Sun, Chicago Tribune, Hartford Courant, Los Angeles Times, Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun Sentinel all feature a responsive site design.
