2 From Fr. Faucher Second Sunday in Ordinary Time January 14, 2015 Dear all, As we begin this new year of 2015, it is my hope and prayer that it will be year of peace and goodness for all of us. But it is also a time for me to seriously address my own personal future. As many of you know, our former bishop wanted me to retire last summer and I managed to stay in active ministry and at Saint Mary s for at least one more year. I must soon either apply for another year extension of my time at Saint Mary s or ask for retirement. On the one hand, I have many people who want me stay on at Saint Mary s, both staff and parishioners. I have a wonderful parish staff, great priests and deacons who help me with all of the Masses and ministry at the parish. Part of what makes Saint Mary s so splendid is that it is a true multi-cultural community. It is not a Spanish speaking community with some English speaking parishioners, nor an English speaking community with some Spanish speaking members. It is one community with cultural diversity. Our priorities are preserving that diversity and the two other jewels in our crown The Food Bank and Saint Mary s School, as well as the beauty of our newly renovated church building. It would be very difficult to give all of this up. On the other hand, I am very conscious of my health situation. Overall, my health is pretty good. I have lost quite a bit of weight in the past couple of years, doing it slowly and carefully. I do not stand well and do not do stairs well. But I can only work at most five or so hours a day. More and more of the parish ministry is being done by others, especially Fathers Camacho, Segatta, and Montez. I am still good at managing the parish, but I am not the pastor I used to be. I have been here at Saint Mary s for thirteen years. A lot has happened during those years and I feel I have been a good pastor for the parish. If I were younger and had more energy, there are things I would do that I am not doing. Because the parish is so healthy and strong, there is the foundation for new and exciting directions the parish could take. But it needs a new pastor to do that. I have, therefore, decided that I will retire at the end of June, I would continue to live primarily in Boise, but may spend some time in the winter in warmer places. I know that the future of Father Camacho, Father Segatta and Father Montez will depend in large part on who is appointed to be the next pastor of Saint Mary s. When I first came to Saint Mary s thirteen years ago, I sent out a series of questions about what the people of the parish wanted in their new pastor. I am doing the same thing now so that the results can be given to Bishop Christensen and the priests personnel board as they consider the appointment of a new pastor. The questions are on the back of this letter I ask everyone in the parish to fill out the form and return it. I am asking the parish staff, the Parish Community Council and the Hispanic Council to collect and tabulate the results. I thank all of you for your wonderful support of me all of these years, and in the years to come. I am a most blessed and fortunate person to have all of you in my life. Peace, Rev. W. Thomas Faucher Saint Mary s Parish
3 SAINT MARY S PARISH SURVEY, JANUARY 2015 I have announced that I will retire from Saint Mary s Parish at the end of June It will be up to Bishop Christensen and the Priests Personnel Board to select a new pastor. But it will be helpful to them to know what the people of this great parish community would like in their new pastor. The process is that a notice will be sent to all of the priests and those interested can apply. To help with this process, I am asking all of you to fill out this series of questions and statements and return them to the parish by February 1st, so they can be passed to the board and to Bishop Christensen. To return the survey, you can mail it, drop it in the collection basket, or send it by to stmarys@stmarysboise.org. If I were considering applying for a new parish, this information would be very helpful to me. Thank you, Father Tom Faucher Please answer the question or complete the sentence. Every member of a household is welcome to fill out their own survey form. 1. I have been part of Saint Mary s Parish for years. 2. What I like best about Saint Mary s is 3. What I find most difficult about Saint Mary s is 4. What I want most in a new pastor is someone who 5. What I do not want in a new pastor is 6. I hope that the new pastor will consider doing 7. The liturgy and music at Saint Mary s, both in Spanish and English, should 8. The newly renovated church building should 9. The three great parish priorities, being a multi-cultural community, Saint Mary Food Bank and Saint Mary s School should 10. I would also like to say that
Su amigo y servidor ~ Padre Jesús Camacho Christian Unity Sunday Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Each year all Christians devote the week of January 18th to pray for the restoration of the unity of all who believe in Christ. As we know, Christians are divided into three branches: Catholic, Orthodox (from the eleventh century) and Protestants (from the sixteenth century). This contradicts the will of Christ that we are "one" and is a scandal to the world. Tomorrow, the Feast of the Conversion of the Apostle Paul concludes the week of prayer. I invite all of you to dedicate special prayers for this great need of the Church. Your friend and servant ~ Father Jesus Camacho 5:00 PM 8:30 AM 10:45 AM Alt.
