Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2012 Service Demand Handler and Catalogue Manager for Clouds Prarthana Gupta Abstract With growing usage of Internet and Cloud enabled services on devices like PC, Tablet & Mobile, business demands of agility, scalability and flexibility are well met with basic cloud enabled services using private clouds as an entry point. However, to enable faster, better & cheaper usage of IT resources, business demands will now expand to capabilities of using multiple private clouds in isolation, and have linkage capabilities across multiple clouds. In the end, this will tie in with Service Oriented Architecture deploy over Cloud. In this paper, we propose an approach of extending Multi Cloud Management Platform by creating Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager that enables users to choose required services from Unified Service Catalog. There is a feasibility study also performed of integrating this with Payment Gateway to make it truly On-Demand. The Service demands are then handled by Multi Cloud Management platform where Service Demand Analysis, Cloud Assignment, Service Monitoring, Unified Cloud Services Management, Virtual Service Migration demands and other Service Management are managed. Let s assume a scenario where the Multi Cloud Management platform is heavily overloaded to serve a number of service requests. In order to overcome this problem we propose an approach in which analysis can be performed prior to data being fed to Multi Cloud Management Platform. We have proposed a technique to categorize the Service Demands listed by customer using Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager. After getting a list of required services of customers, these can be automatically categorized according to Service Types (Application Based/Network Based/ Physical based / Hybrid type). This reduces the workload of Multi Cloud Management Platform, as only categorized Service demands are required to be handled. This is already known that Service Providers serves three basic Types of Services- as SaaS (Application Level), PaaS (Network Level), and IaaS (Physical Level), categorizing services on this basis will help in further assignment of cloud sites by Multi Cloud Management Platform. Index Terms Computing Management, Multi IaaS Cloud Computing, Multi Cloud Management platform, Unified Service Catalogue Manager, Service Demand Handler. I. INTRODUCTION Infrastructure as a Service is quite a hot topic in IT as IaaS provides consumers with administrative, web-based access to fundamental computing resources such as processing power, storage and networks. All cloud infrastructures depend on virtualization. By abstracting server software from the underlying hardware, multiple virtual machines, including operating systems, storage and installed software, can run on a single physical computer and share its processing power. IaaS systems typically include some or all of the following features A. Choice of plug and play virtual machines with pre-installed operating systems like Windows, Linux and Solaris. B. A choice of virtual appliances virtual machines with specific sets of software pre-installed. C. Ability to store copies of particular data in different locations around the world to make downloads of the data as fast as possible. D. Software tools to help process large amounts of data (in Data Grids) and perform complex calculations in Compute Grids) using large arrays of virtual servers working in parallel on the same problem. E. Ability to manually increase or decrease the computing resources assigned to you using a web browser as your requirements change. F. Scalability of computing resources in response to application usage. The elastic capability of IaaS systems makes on-demand computing possible, but it is the low entry costs and the pay-per-use charging model that make it attractive to businesses. 2 Volume 2, Issue 3, June 2012 An Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing is computing concept in enterprises from viewpoints of both a server user who makes use of servers and a server administrator who prepares servers for server users and manages them. Figure 1 shows a general IaaS cloud site. A server administrator creates virtual server templates, and enrolls them as service catalogs into a cloud manager in advance, using a cloud manager portal. Server users open a cloud service portal and select an appropriate service catalog when they would like to use servers. Then, the service catalog request is sent from the service portal to the cloud manager. The cloud manger creates a new virtual server on cloud resource pool by copying the template linked with the requested catalog, and informs the users that requested virtual server is ready. A server administrator manages virtual servers on the cloud management portal. Server users can immediately make use of virtual servers, exactly when they want without contacting a server administrator. A server administrator does not need to answer user s requests each time and can manage servers centrally. A multi IaaS cloud site is appearing as cloud computing benefits spread.as the result, both a server user and a server administrator are annoyed because cloud sites are separated (Figure 2). First, a server user has to select an appropriate cloud site and service catalog satisfying with requirements by him/her, using a different cloud service portal located on each cloud site. Second, a server administrator needs to manage virtual servers with different manners using a different cloud management portal on each cloud site. Finally, it requires heavy workloads to migrate an application equipped virtual server from one cloud site to another (e.g. from test cloud to production cloud). Figure2. Issues with Multi IaaS Platform. The Multi Cloud Management Platform to resolve the issues on multi IaaS cloud sites (Figure 3). The multi Cloud Management Platform is located between users and cloud sites, and provides the unified cloud service portal and the unified cloud management portal for a server user and a server administrator respectively. It has three features to tackle the issues: a service catalog federation, a collaborative management, and an application virtual server migration. A service catalog federation automatically picks up service catalogs that meet server user s requirements from multi cloud sites, creates a single service catalog that links with them, and provides it as a federated service catalog for the user on the unified cloud service portal. The user can select an appreciate service catalog on the single portal without considering multi cloud sites. A collaborative management extracts virtual server information from each cloud site, and provides the server administrator on the unified cloud management portal. The administrator can centrally manage virtual servers running on different cloud sites. An application virtual server migration provides a mechanism to migrate virtual server from one cloud site to another site. The user can migrate the virtual server to an appreciate cloud site easily. Figure3. Multi Cloud Management Platform. II. OUR CONTRIBUTION In this paper, we propose an approach by creating Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager a platform which enables the end users to choose required services from Unified Service Catalogue Manager using payment counter. Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager unifies the delivery and lifecycle management of public and private Cloud Services across the enterprise including aggregation, cataloguing, provisioning, access control, security, auditing, monitoring, reporting, metering, billing, administration, and user support thus enabling the customer to get proper information and benefits from the available Services. Initially the Service demands are handled by Multi cloud management platform where Analysis of Service demand, Assignment of different cloud sites, Service monitoring, Unified Cloud Services Management, Virtual Service Migration demands Management, and Other Services as needed are considered. The Multi cloud Management platform is now too overloaded to manage all these services. In order to overcome this problem we proposed an approach in which analysis can be performed earlier then, the data fed to Multi cloud Management Platform. We have proposed a technique to categorize the Service Demands as listed by customer using this platform. 134
Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2012 After getting a list of required service demands from customers, these can be automatically categorized according to requirement needs of Service Types (Application Based/Network Based/Physical based /Hybrid type). It is already known Cloud Computing Serves three basic Types of Services- as SaaS (Application Level), PaaS (Network Level), and IaaS (Physical Level), thus categorizing services on this basis will help in further assignment of cloud sites. This approach can decrease workload of Multi Cloud Management Platform as only categorized Service demands are required to be handled, analysis part is also avoided and thus enabling easier and faster assignments of cloud sites according to the service types. III. DESCRIPTION - SERVICE DEMAND HANDLER AND UNIFIED SERVICE CATALOGUE MANAGER This is placed between Users and Multi Cloud Management Platform which acts as an Interface by providing analyzed and categorized lists of Service Demands to the Multi Cloud Management Platform. It reduces the workload of Multi Cloud Management Platform and provides faster and easier platform to Customers. Figure4. Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager used to minimize the workload of Multi cloud Management Platform. A. Unified Service Catalogue Manager The key Cloud Services lifecycle management features that this Platform enables for enterprises include: Service Catalogue Management Service and User Provisioning Authentication, Authorization and Access Control User and Service Administration Reporting and Auditing Help Desk and Support Ticketing and Support Metering, Billing and Chargeback Figure 5: The Unified Service Catalogue Manager Platform unifies all aspects of Cloud Services lifecycle management and delivery within the enterprise. Each of these lifecycle management features and the associated benefits is described in detail in the sections that follow. Service Catalogue Management: Using cloud integration toolkit in this Platform any Cloud Service (private or public) can be quickly incorporated and offered through the services catalogue. The service catalogue management functionality in the Platform helps the enterprise create and manage department, line of business or function specific catalogues from a centralized list of approved private and public Cloud Services. Service offers can be organized directly into catalogues, or further repackaged into service bundles. The various sub-features to enable these capabilities are described below. Service Definition and On-boarding: Before a public or private Cloud Service can be offered to departments, lines of business and employees through the Platform, it must be defined and on-boarded into a Master Catalogue of services for the enterprise. Tiered Catalogue Management: The Platform enables enterprises to bundle complementary services offered by different vendors into unified solution suites or Catalogues that are customized for a specific tier in the company e.g. a Catalogue of tools for an individual department, or for a particular roles within the enterprise; or a Marketing Bundle for the marketing department. As complementary services are bundled together into a solution suite, policies are added to synchronize the administration functions. This provides a unified user experience for ordering, activating, provisioning, consuming, supporting and billing for any services bundle abstracting the provisioning, billing and notification workflow processes. As the services are activated, billing systems are updated and notifications are sent to CRM, helpdesk and reporting systems as required. Services Catalogue: This Platform offers a catalogue comprising an extensive list of more than a hundred third party Cloud Services that have already been integrated into the Platform and which are ready to be incorporated into enterprise catalogues. Service Bundling: A service bundle can be defined as a collection of related service offerings from cloud providers. These may include services offered by third party providers as well as a service offered by enterprise IT. Service and user provisioning Centralized Self-Service: The Platform enables a central portal for end-users within an enterprise from there they can select and self-provision a service. In a similar manner it provides a central portal for administrators to monitor and manage the on-boarding of end-users according to company policies. As a result, the Platform Significantly reduces the overall cost and of provisioning services to end-users while ensuring consistent policy enforcement across the organization. 135
Volume 2, Issue 3, June 2012 Policy-Based Automated Provisioning: The Platform allows the definition of automated workflows for provisioning interdependent services. For example automated provisioning of services may be initiated on the occurrence of an event such as when a new employee joins the company, or when an employee s role changes. Once the action is triggered the service delivery workflow automation engine can execute complex provisioning process in the background and send notifications to the user, CRM system, helpdesk, billing services and others as desired. Bulk Provisioning: The Platform also supports bulk provisioning. This feature enables all users in a department or even the entire company to be activated at once. In the process of bulk provisioning, the Platform can ensure consistent policy control enforcement. Additionally, bulk provisioning privileges can be assigned through delegated administration, to specific lines of business or departments within the enterprise. This allows the line of business or departmental IT administrators to bulk provision only users within their organization. B. Authentication, Authorization and Access Control Single-Sign-On (SSO): The Platform enables user access to all approved services with a single set of user credentials. It manages multiple user s roles and privileges across multiple applications and services, enabling companies to create and maintain a single user profile that defines access rights across all services and applications to which they are subscribed. Enterprise Directory Services Integration: The Platform integrates with existing directory services such as LDAP and Active Directory. In this way, the Platform leverages existing user and role information and extends the application of that information to enforcing authorization and access control to public Cloud Services. Roles-Based Authorization and Access Control: The Platform manages multiple user roles and privileges across multiple applications and Cloud Services both private and public, enabling companies to create and maintain a single user profile that defines access rights across all services and applications to which they are subscribed. Additionally, the Platform manages the multiple service-specific roles for a user through a single view, thereby reducing the complexity of managing users roles and privileges across multiple services. Password Policy Enforcement: In order to ensure compliance, enterprises typically require a uniform password policy to be instituted across the enterprise for all services their users consume. With the platform, all access control and password enforcement policies are configurable at a company or at the departmental level. In this way, the Platform helps centralize and enforce corporate policies and regulatory compliance requirements across all users, services, organizations and geographies. User and Service Administration Centralized and Automated Move, Add, Change (MAC) requests: The Platform allows centralized control of all move, add and change requests for both Cloud Services and users. Individual services may be added or changed. Also, individual users may be added to a service, deleted or their access privileges may be modified for one or more services. C. Dashboards, Auditing and Reporting The Platform provides configurable dashboards and reports to track user activity and administrative events for operational or auditing purposes. The Platform also allows the integration of data from these reports with other third party reporting, business intelligence systems and enterprise dashboards. Helpdesk Ticketing and Support The Helpdesk functionality in the Platform provides enterprises with a centralized yet configurable way to handle all support and change requests from end-users for services they have been provisioned with. The Helpdesk functionality can be integrated and used in conjunction with existing trouble ticket, helpdesk, or call center systems. The Helpdesk can act as a common front-end for end users across the enterprise while helping route tickets to external Service Providers and existing in-house helpdesks. Knowledge Base -The Knowledge Base functionality is a web-based knowledge management solution for employees, internal enterprise helpdesk support personnel as well as external support providers. The knowledge base includes a search engine and authoring capabilities. The knowledge base empowers users to find answers for themselves and in turn reduces the cost of helpdesk support. As support tickets are resolved they can be added to the knowledge base, creating an ever-growing self-service repository. Notifications and Alerts: Notifications alert helpdesk support personnel to the nature and severity of a problem, ensuring proactive support and customer satisfaction. Metering, Billing Settlement and Charge backs One of the bigger challenges for an enterprise consuming many different Services from a number of external Cloud Service Providers and from internal IT, is how to consolidate billing, reconcile different payment terms, measure actual usage of Services by department and then enable accurate departmental charge backs to the appropriate internal cost centers. Here are a few scenarios to help illustrate the complexity enterprises might face: 1. An enterprise uses many services from many different Cloud Service Providers each with its own billing cycle and invoice terms. For example, Service A is billed every 2nd of the month at Net 30 whereas Service B is billed on the 30th of the month at Net 45. Meanwhile, allocation to internal cost centers is done at the end of the month. 136
Volume 2, Issue 2, June Two departments within the enterprise have independently signed up for the same Service from an external Cloud Service Provider. Another department would now like to sign up for the same Service but IT has now been asked to centrally manage the administration, metering and provide chargeback statements for usage of the service IV. UNIFIED SERVICE CATALOGUE Basic Services Types Included are categorized as Application based Services, Technical Based Services (network and physical part), Hybrid Services. These categories itself includes number of services that a cloud can provide. According to customer needs and demands options are chosen from the given list. A service level Agreement is agreed between customer and provider, where customer must aware of the rules and regulations before using any cloud services. The structure of catalog basically includes list of following Services: On the Basis of this division of Services, as different cloud sites providers provides different services, if the Service Demand of the customer is known earlier then it will be easier and faster for Multi cloud management platform to assign the cloud site without wasting time in analysis. An algorithm is devised for the categorization of the service demands. Using this allows the automatic categorization of chosen services from unified service catalogue in Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalog Manager, enabling easier and faster results. Application Based Services Figure6. List of Application based Services. Technical Services Figure7. List of Technical based Services. Hybrid Services Figure8. List of Hybrid Service Types V. CATEGORIZATION OF SERVICE TYPE Cloud Computing provides us three types of services as SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. Service choice depends on the type of user. For example, end user prefers SaaS (Software as a Service) that works at application level, Developers prefer PaaS (Platform as a Service) which provides a platform, development environment for the developers and works at network level of the system, Businessmen prefers IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) which satisfies the infrastructural need (e.g. storage) and works at Physical level of the system, there may be needs for hybrid types too. Figure9. Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager Algorithm (Create a database using any DBMS system having list of all services provided in catalogue in categorized manner.) Algorithm COSD (Categorization of Service Demands) Choose the Required Services from Listed Services Offered in Unified Service Demand Catalogue. Start a loop to check from stored database whether a chosen service belongs to application / network /physical/hybrid based using query. Get the result from query. End loop If Application based Services are demanded then assign the cloud site which provide SaaS. ElseIf Network based Services are demanded then assign the cloud site which provides PaaS. ElseIf Physical based Services are demanded then assign the cloud site which provides IaaS. ElseIf Hybrid based Services are demanded then assign the cloud site which provides hybrid services. EndIf Exit VI. RELATED WORK Private Cloud [4] focuses on multi-cloud environment as well as ours. It interconnects among cloud resource pools over multi-cloud sites, while our Multi Cloud Management Platform interconnects among cloud portals by a service catalog federation and a collaborative management.so, multi-cloud environments become more usable, using both Multi Cloud Management Platform and Virtual Private Cloud. Both Jamcracker [8] and RightScale [9] provide the capability of connecting an enterprise with different Cloud service providers. 137
Volume 2, Issue 3, June 2012 VII. CONCLUSION In this paper, we propose an approach by creating Service Demand Handler and Unified Service Catalogue Manager a platform which enables the end users to choose required services from unified Service Catalogue using payment gateway. Generally the Service demands are then handled by Multi cloud management platform where Service demands Analysis, Assignment of different cloud sites according to analyzed output, Service monitoring, Unified Cloud Services Management, Virtual Service Migration demands, Other Service Management as needed, are considered. The Multi cloud Management platform is now overloaded to serve number of services. In order to overcome this problem we proposed an approach in which analysis can be performed earlier then, data fed to Multi cloud Management Platform. We have proposed a technique to categorize the Service Demands listed by customer using Unified Service Catalogue Manager. After getting a list of required services of customers, these can be automatically categorized according to required needs of Service Types (Application Based/Network Based/Physical based /Hybrid type). It can decrease workload of Multi Cloud Management Platform as only categorized Service demands are required to be handled. As future work, the next area to be addressed is cloud service mash up across multi cloud sites, such as a combination of virtual server creation service on one cloud site and virtual server monitoring service on an another site. A common service description scheme will be needed to achieve it. Another approach for future work is related to IP address masking in multi cloud sites when network based services are demanded.
