5 The right production technology for every material. The additive production methods. The cara production centres in Hanau, Germany, and Helsingborg, Sweden, employ the most modern and innovative processes for the production of your frameworks. That way you always stay up to date. A general distinction is made between two processing techniques: subtractive (= taking away) and additive (= building up) manufacturing. Subtractive manufacturing techniques. The grinding and milling of materials have taken on increased importance in dental technology since processing of all-ceramic materials such as zirconium dioxide began approximately 10 years ago. In addition to dental casting, these subtractive procedures are now established techniques for manufacturing frameworks. Milling strategies and methods have continually been perfected over the years in order to accommodate even more indications and to lower costs. The e-manufacturing of dental technology: additive manufacturing techniques. This build-up procedure is used in the cara production centre for the manufacturing of framework structures and resin models. In the selective laser melting/sintering process (SLM/SLS), the component is build up by applying and fusing layers of powdery material, and in general, the thinner the layer, the smoother the surface. The light exposure strategy specially developed for laser melting and the plastic laser sintering technique minimises the distortion of the component and guarantees a homogeneous and dense structure. Along with the three-axis milling used for standard tasks, complex restorations can now be using a simultaneous five-axis process: the milling spindle moves with three degrees of freedom while the workpiece is simultaneously controlled on two more axes. This makes it possible to handle even complex geometries with undercuts or divergent dies. The milling of complex constructions made of zirconium dioxide, and one-piece titanium abutments is continually optimised in the cara production centre. The material and indication spectra are also expanded. With its highly precise, perfect-fi tting and smooth surfaces, Heraeus sets standards on the market nowadays. In addition to traditional milling, the lathing techniques also form part of the subtractive processes. 7 Classical zirconium dioxide is available in three shades: white, B-light and A-intensive. cara translucent zirconium dioxide in transmitted light. Colour spectrum: light, medium, intensive. Zirconium dioxide the ideal material for aesthetic restorations. On account of its outstanding material properties and good compatibility, the material zirconium dioxide has long been firmly established in dental technology and dentistry. Zirconium dioxide requires particularly careful processing to avoid subjecting the all-ceramic material to any type of stress. An individual milling programme tailored to the material and a sophisticated sintering process guarantee optimal precision and fi t. Heraeus sets the highest quality standards for processing this all-ceramic material in cara central production. This starts with the selection of the raw material and extends to the manufacture of blanks through to CAM processing and sintering: every step in the processing chain is precisely monitored. For example, regular batch checks and a wide range of tests on material properties are performed. Moreover, further quality controls before and after sintering ensure that the cara framework is supplied to the laboratory intact and in the highest quality. The element or rather the alloys, which are generally composed of approx. 90% pure titanium, are characterised in the medical fi eld by a wide range of positive features. One major advantage is excellent biocompatibility. The body shows no rejection reactions to titanium. In addition, in the event of injuries, the titanium surface is surrounded with a protective oxide layer that prevents chemical exchange between tissue and metal. Production The data are then produced with the aid of computer and a highly precise workpiece is created. 6. Finished restoration Manual veneering is then performed in the dental laboratory.
