2 Counseling News Upcoming: Seniors: If you are graduating from high school in 2016 or you re already in college, you need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To get the most, your application needs to be turned in by March 1. Make sure you do it right. Come to a MI College Goal event in February to have an expert help you fill out the FAFSA FREE at one of 30 locations in Michigan. Here is a list of some locations and dates in Metro - Detroit: Detroit Allen Academy, February 11: 4-6 p.m. Detroit Edison Public School Academy, February 3: 5-7 p.m. Chase Branch Library, February 13: 11 a.m.-3 pm. The Urban Life Center, February 14: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Osborn Neighborhood Alliance, February 6: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wayne State University, February 6 and 7 The American College Foundation File Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Early Be sure to put yourself at the front of the line by filing your FAFSA early. Some colleges will even award "early FAFSA filing" grants. File Your FAFSA Online with the Department of Education. You will also need an FSA ID to complete the process. 3 CRC News Lawrence Tech, Financial Aid Night January 13, 6:30 8:30 p.m. Register online at MEA Scholarship Opportunity Must be a dependent of MEA member or MEA retired member. $1800, seniors, deadline: February One-Day Filmmaking Workshop in January - Date: Friday, January 22, 2016 This workshop for high school students will bring aspiring film students together to write, produce, direct, shoot and edit a short film project under the guidance of film professionals. Motion Picture Institute offers a one day introductory FILM PRODUCTION WORKSHOP for individual HIGH SCHOOL students. Students experience the filmmaking process on an actual soundstage here at Motion Picture Institute under the guidance of our experienced professional staff and film grads. Students work together to craft a short script, storyboards, floor plans before going on stage to learn camera, lighting and audio techniques. Then they shoot. Once the production wraps the students work with an editor to produce a rough cut of their production. Each student then receives a digital copy of the raw footage (student must bring their own hard drive or USB flash drive) to take and edit their own version at home or school. B, Troy, MI COST: $65 per student LIMITED SEATING: Each workshop is limited to 12 students. Upon registering each student will receive a confirmation . A workshop date is subject to cancellation due to lack of sufficient enrollment. In this instance the student will be given the option to move their registration to another open workshop date or receive a full refund. REQUIREMENTS: Students may attend by having an instructor or counselor contact Motion Picture Institute to book a date. Students arrive in Boston by Saturday evening and make their way south from Boston to Washington DC, visiting top universities and sampling the local culture along the way. 10 National Honor Society About National Honor Society (NHS) National Honor Society is an organization formed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to recognize academic achievement and promote leadership and character development in the school. A major tenant of National Honor Society is the commitment to community service. Each student member of the Bloomfield Hills High School Chapter of National Honor Society completes additional hours of community service beyond the service hours required for graduation, a portion of which is devoted to academic tutoring and peer mentoring. Eligibility Requirements for NHS Current sophomore or junior Attended BHHS for at least one complete semester Genuine personal (student) interest in pursuing NHS membership Recognized by teachers and peers as a positive leader in the school community Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 (not rounded) Completed and document 25 of the 40 district-required community service hours Submitted a complete application by deadline (generally available to students early February) Eligibility Deadline Eligible students who wish to be considered for membership for the school year must have their community service hours submitted to Mrs. English in the CRC by Friday, January 22, 2016.Students who do not meet this deadline will not be considered. Students who meet the GPA and community service requirement will be notified of their NHS eligibility via letter.
