Special Features Queen s is the only university in Northern Ireland offering degree programmes in all four fields of Nursing. Students may have the opportunity to complete their final practice module abroad. Eligible students may have their fees paid for the duration of the three-year programme by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) and may also receive a bursary. Careers and Further Study Studying Nursing at Queen s provides a solid foundation for graduates to undertake further study in specialty areas of nursing practice. Our postgraduate programmes are designed to prepare nurse leaders who can work effectively within today's dynamic and challenging health care systems.
8 When I first started the programme I was overwhelmed, so much to do for university and then working busy shifts in clinical practice. It took a while to get used to organising my time so that I could really enjoy what I was doing. Everyone in my group is very supportive, friendly and fun. We all get along and the same can be said about the lecturers too. We all like to talk about our experiences while being in placement and support each other when preparing for exams and assignments. Practical placements are where you learn the most, and it seems to be where all your learning comes together and becomes real!
9 Nursing is busy from the word go but you quickly find your feet, especially when on clinical placement. This is where you really learn to understand illness and what it is like to care for someone with a life threatening condition. The course includes workshops where nursing and medical students work as teams in simulated clinical settings using the hi-tec, but all too life-like SimBaby and SimMan. This safe controlled learning environment allows you to apply and extend your skills. Studying nursing both within the university and on placement can be stressful but there is always support on hand to help with the academic and clinical challenges.
