The school year consists of four marking periods encompassing seven, fifty-two minute daily class periods. All students pursue an appropriate academic program that is augmented by many elective courses in art, business, family & consumer sciences, music, physical education/health and driver education, technology and engineering education, and world languages. 2 Wilson High School Credits and Graduation Requirements: Major subjects meet six days per six day cycle for periods of fifty-two minutes each. Partial credit is given for subjects which meet for one quarter or one semester. A minimum of twenty five credits, including the following, must be successfully completed during grades 9-12: English 4, Mathematics 4, Social Studies 4, Science 3, Physical Education 1, Health.5, and Graduation Project 1. Students in the academies listed below have academy-specific requirements. Grade Point Average: Grade Point Average is cumulative in grades 9 through 12 and is on a weighted system. Our grading scale is defined as follows: A = 90% %, B = 80% - 89 %, C = 70% - 79 %, D = 60% - 69 %, F = 59 % - 0%. Class Ranking System: For the purpose of class ranking, each student receives an overall numeric average which includes all courses attempted. This cumulative average is adjusted for weighted courses while raw grades listed on transcripts are unweighted. Only the cumulative GPA is weighted. Students are ranked on the basis of final grades for all subjects at the end of 9, 10, 11, and 12. The computation formula used to determine class rank will also be used to determine graduation recognition (Summa Cum Laude, with highest honors; Magna Cum Laude, with high honors; and Cum Laude, with honors). Academies: The Wilson School District has five academies in which students are prepared for the demands of post-secondary education. These academies will provide students with the opportunity to focus their studies on specific areas of interest while also providing collegiate, business and industry connections that should prove to motivate and inspire them to pursue post-secondary education. Berks Career and Technology Center Academy (BCTC): This academy will allow students to build and sustain strong partnerships with our industry, trade, and business communities in order to improve their economic vitality and quality of life. Global Studies Academy: This academy will allow students to focus on the study of the political, economic, social, and cultural relationships of the world. STEM Academy: This academy will allow students to focus their studies on integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts. The three focus areas within the STEM Academy are Engineering, Computer Science, and Biomedical Science. A Materials Science thread will be offered in Visual and Performing Arts Academy: This academy will allow students to receive dynamic opportunities in the study of the visual and performing arts. Wilson Virtual Academy (WVA): This academy provides our students with an alternative to a traditional education and ensures students have access to quality online learning opportunities that prepare them for a lifetime of success.
