5 Introduction The mission of The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) is to promote the improvement and enhancement of theological schools to the benefit of communities of faith and the broader public. The Association seeks to fulfill this mission by engaging in three core areas of work: (1) leadership education for administrative officers and faculty, (2) issues and initiatives, which includes issue-based consultations and applied research, and (3) communications and data. The Commission on Accrediting of ATS seeks to fulfill the mission through accrediting member schools of the Association and approving the degree programs they offer. The Bulletin, Part 2, Membership List is published online and provides information about the member institutions of the Association and the Commission. Member institutions of the Association are accredited schools, candidates for accreditation, and associate member schools. Accredited schools and candidates for accreditation are also members of the Commission on Accrediting. The member institutions are listed alphabetically by membership category. Accredited members are institutions that, after review on the basis of the Commission's standards, are voted by the Board of Commissioners into accredited membership. Candidate for accredited membership schools are currently engaged in a self-study as part of their review by the Board of Commissioners for initial accreditation. Associate members are not accredited but have met the requirements for associate membership as set forth in the ATS Bylaws and Procedures Related to Membership (Bulletin, Part 1) and are voted into associate membership by the accredited member schools at Biennial Meetings of the Association. Currently there are 273 member schools of the Association: 244 accredited members, 16 candidates for accredited membership, and 13 associate members. The statistical information about each institution was provided by the school on its Annual Report Forms on the date noted. The Membership List also contains the public information about the accredited status of each member school, as provided by the Board of Commissioners of the ATS Commission on Accrediting. The Commission on Accrediting accredits institutions and approves degree programs offered by accredited schools. There are two types of degree approval: ongoing and preliminary. Unless the designation "(preliminary)" appears following the degree, the Board of Commissioners has given ongoing approval of the degree. The designation "(discontinued)" following a degree program indicates that the institution is no longer admitting students to the program and will no longer offer the degree after the currently enrolled students complete the program. When institutions offer complete degree programs at more than one location, the degrees are approved for each site at which the institution offers them in full. Because the Commission does not approve degree programs of candidates for accredited membership or associate members, the degree programs of those schools are not listed in the Membership List. A list of degree program abbreviations appears in this publication. Although some member schools also offer ecclesiastical or pontifical degrees, those degrees are not listed herein. Some member institutions grant degrees conjointly with other institutions or by virtue of their affiliation with other schools, and such information is noted. In the case of college-related or university-

6 related schools, PhD and MA degrees listed may be granted by the college or university with which the theological school is affiliated. Notations are imposed by the Board of Commissioners in order to identify how and when, in its judgment, principles contained in the accrediting standards are not being adequately translated into practice by an institution. A list of notations appears in this publication. Schools are identified according to church/denominational affiliations. Inter/multidenominational indicates that the school possesses multiple denominational affiliations with respect to governance, financial support, or other formal relationships; nondenominational indicates that the school has no official denominational affiliations. Organizations with a substantial interest in theological education but not involved in educational programs leading to a degree, as well as schools offering graduate theological degrees but not in the Christian or Jewish faiths, may be granted Affiliate Status with the Association upon the recommendation of the ATS Board of Directors and the vote of the membership (see Bulletin, Part 1). A list of these organizations is also included, along with a list of the committees of the Association. Bulletin, Part 2, Membership List is updated regularly and available in PDF format from the ATS website. The Member Schools section of the ATS website is updated nightly and reflects the most current information provided by member schools. More detailed information about a particular school should be sought from the school itself. The ATS website provides links to the home pages of most of the member institutions. Inquiries regarding the Association or the Commission on Accrediting should be directed to their office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
