2 for more than 5 decades In 1959, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida began providing tools that help people overcome Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, Inc. barriers to employment and find meaningful work. Today more than 50 years after our first store opened in downtown Orlando s Church Street Station we re making an even greater impact through new Retail Stores, Donation Xpress Centers, Job Connection Centers and online shopping. Each year, thousands of Central Floridians turn to Goodwill for life-changing services and free resources that enable them to get back on their feet. All of this, of course, is possible thanks to your generous donations. When you shop or donate at Goodwill, you re funding services that help people find jobs Goodwill and achieve Industries economic of Central self-sufficiency Florida, Inc. right here in our community. 2
3 At Goodwill, donations = jobs For every 24 pounds of items donated to Goodwill, one person with a barrier to employment receives vocational assistance to help them get a job. DONATE You donate gently used items to Goodwill. RESELL We sell your donations in our stores and online. job skills programs Job Connection Centers Tips and Training for the Job Hunt Located throughout Central Florida, our Job Connection Centers are staffed with professionals who help teach fundamental workforce skills. Participants can access free resources, such as: Local job listings and direct placement assistance Résumé writing and interviewing tips Computer training and career counseling FUND Proceeds from sales go to fund job training and other services to prepare people for success. EMPLOY With Goodwill s help, people in our community find good jobs. With each donation, Goodwill changes and betters lives. More than 90% of every dollar we spend supports employment and educational programs. Most services are free and help create positive change in our community. Program Teaching Computer and Offi ce Skills Our self-paced program enables students to be competitive in today s office environment. Training is offered for: Microsoft Office software programs Data entry Grammar Receptionist skills Organizational skills Telephone etiquette Business math Contract Services Offering Workforce Solutions Goodwill has a successful history of providing outsourced labor and contract services to both commercial and government entities. We can offer specialized, cost-effective workforce solutions to meet your production goals. Homeless Services Network Developing Skills for Stability Goodwill offers a broad range of services for people living in homeless shelters, including: Vocational assessment Planning and counseling Placement services and long-term follow-up We strive to develop employment skills in each individual, with the ultimate goal of equipping participants to maintain long-term work and transition to permanent housing. 5 The B.E.S.T. program taught me the computer skills I needed to apply for jobs online. I m much more confident that I ll be able to find and keep a good job after the computer training I received. Karena 6
5 programs job skills Direct Placement Services Securing the Best Position In order to secure jobs over the long term, individuals with barriers to employment can utilize Goodwill s placement assistance, which includes: Career counseling Job skills training Job analysis and matching Short-term job coaching Long-term follow-up Employee Development Services Temporary Work for People with Disabilities Goodwill provides paid temporary work for people with disabilities and limited or no work experience. Program participants receive intensive goal-oriented counseling and milestone recognition. GoodWorks Program & Job Connections Reducing Recidivism Through a partnership with Orange County Corrections, Goodwill offers an employment program for soon-to-be-released inmates. To help direct them toward a more positive future, we connect these individuals with local jobs by providing access to: Computer labs Job leads Resource libraries Interview preparation Staff assessment of vocational skills Vocational Evaluation Matching the Right Strengths to the Right Job Our certifi ed vocational evaluator reviews each individual s abilities and work aptitude. Based on the results, participants identify the skills they need to make appropriate career choices. 7 When I was recently disabled and out of work, Goodwill gave me a temporary job and helped me find a permanent position. 6 programs youth Project COMPASS Helping At-Risk Students Stay in School Working with non-violent offenders ages 14 through 18, Goodwill helps at-risk students improve their study habits and complete an academic program delivered by teachers from Orange County Public Schools. Teens have the opportunity to earn a regular high school diploma or return to their home school to complete their studies. My son was failing in school and started to get involved with a bad crowd. But since he joined Project COMPASS, we ve seen his grades and attitude improve. At this rate, he will graduate on time! Deborah Work Activity Center Teaching Job Skills to Young Adults with Disabilities Catering to the special educational needs of 19- to 22-year-old high school students with disabilities, our cooperative program with Orange County Public Schools teaches pre-vocational skills that foster independent living. GoodGuides Youth Mentorship GoodGuides connects students with caring, qualifi ed mentors to encourage healthy behaviors, support academic success and build stronger communities. Meeting on a weekly basis, participants focus on building the confi dence it takes to be successful in school and other areas of life. 9 10
7 programs youth Each One, Help One Supporting Youth Aging Out of Foster Care Goodwill s newest program, Each One, Help One, is a partnership with the City of Life Foundation and Community Based Care of Central Florida. It is designed to provide employment services to youth ages 18 to 21 who are in Extended Foster Care in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. Project CONEXTION Preparing High School Students for Success Operated under a one-year grant, Goodwill s Project CONEXTION program is a collaborative partnership among five providers of services to youth in Orange and Osceola counties. Youth ages will receive a holistic system of services that include education and academic remediation, employability training, life and leadership skills, career counseling and exploration, work experience, adult mentoring, paid summer employment, and supportive services. I didn t think school was for me until I came to Goodwill. I ve made friends, and I actually like learning about history. People care about me here, and that makes me want to be a better student. 8 financial programs Money $ense Advice for Managing Money This program provides a series of dynamic and informative money management seminars about banking, credit, debt and savings plans. Money $ense is offered at select Goodwill Job Connection Centers and other locations throughout Central Florida. Neighborhood Centers for Families Convenient Access to Job Training and Resources Goodwill s Employment Services Program, offered at nine Neighborhood Centers for Families in partnership with Orange County, offers free employability skills training, résumé development, career planning, job development and community resources. green programs E-Cycle Reducing Landfill Mass By recycling non-working computers, cell phones, laptops and other electronics, Goodwill helps reduce the nation s landfill mass. Each year, more than 200,000 computers are donated to our locations nationally. Goodwill also strives to protect the environment by recycling cardboard, plastics, mattresses and other items. Money Smart Practical Financial Training A series of personal finance seminars held at our Job Connection Centers, these courses cover topics such as consumer fraud, homeownership, starting a business and saving for retirement
