1 For Discussion Paper No. 11/2012 on 22 November 2012 Purpose DIGITAL 21 STRATEGY ADVISORY COMMITTEE International IT Fest 2013 This paper briefs Members on the International IT Fest 2013, a new Government initiative to promote Hong Kong as a regional ICT hub. Background 2. April is a busy month for the local ICT industry, with two large-scale annual ICT events, i.e. the Hong Kong ICT Awards Presentation Ceremony and the International ICT Expo. Many international and Mainland ICT firms and delegations visit Hong Kong to participate in these two signature events. Last year, there were 590 exhibitors, of which 447 came from the Mainland and overseas countries, participated in the International ICT Expo, attracting an attendance of over , of which over were Mainland and overseas visitors. The Hong Kong ICT Awards attracted 670 entries, and some 700 ICT professionals attended the Awards Presentation Ceremony. In addition, a myriad of ICT events are held year round. Bundling some of them together under a single brand name will create greater promotion impact, showcase Hong Kong s accomplishments and project Hong Kong s image as a regional ICT hub, thus fostering an environment for ICT innovations and businesses to flourish and position themselves in the global ICT market. 3. To ride on the two renowned signature events mentioned above, the Government will hold its first ever International IT Fest ( 國 際 IT 匯 ) from 8 to 21 April 2013 in collaboration with organisations in the technology family and trade promotion bodies, including (a) Hong Kong Applied Science & Technology Research Institute; (b) Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited; (c) Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited; (d) Hong Kong Productivity Council; (e) Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies;

2 (f) Hong Kong Science & Technology Park Corporation; (g) Hong Kong Trade Development Council; and (h) Invest Hong Kong. It features programmes in areas where Hong Kong has clear strengths, e.g. cloud computing, information security, mobile technology, digital inclusion, digital entertainment, logistics and Internet of Things, etc. International IT Fest International IT Fest 2013 comprises a series of ICT events organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and various ICT-related bodies. Details are set out at Annexes A and B respectively. OGCIO will coordinate the programmes and publicity arrangements. We aim to make the International IT Fest an annual fixture with a distinct brand name and slogan as well as a dedicated website. We will invite the Mainland authorities in various provinces and cities and our overseas counterparts to participate. Advice Sought 5. 3 Annex A Events of International IT Fest 2013 to be held between 8-21 April Hong Kong ICT Awards Presentation Ceremony (8 April 2013) By OGCIO An annual event to recognise the achievements of Hong Kong ICT professionals and organisations. This event will also serve as the opening ceremony of the International IT Fest. Target participants are awards winners, industry players, and representatives from NGOs. 2. Award Ceremony for the 2012 Top 10.hk Websites Competition (18 April 2013) By Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited An award presentation ceremony for winners of the 2012 Top 10.hk Websites Competition. The event aims at recognising outstanding.hk and. 香 港 websites. Target participants are local organisations. 3. Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team (HKCERT) Security Seminar (11 April 2013) By Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre A seminar to promote awareness and knowledge of information security among SMEs and the general public. 4. Recognition Ceremony for ICT Usage Among the Elderly (12 April 2013) By OGCIO Recognition ceremony to show appreciation and present awards to elderly persons who use ICT frequently in their daily lives. Target participants are awardees and their families and friends. 5. Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum 2013 (12 April 2013) By Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited A forum to promote digital entertainment development in Hong Kong with internationally renowned speakers. Target participants are ICT practitioners and creative industry players.

Asian Open Source Software Centre Alliance Meeting (12-13 April 2013) By Hong Kong Productivity Council A meeting to exchange knowledge of latest ICT and open source software technologies and trends with other Asian countries. Various Asian countries will be represented. 7. International ICT Expo (13-16 April 2013) By Hong Kong Trade Development Council A large-scale annual expo on ICT products and solutions from around the world. The expo is open to the public, attracting an attendance of over in ICT companies, practitioners and users from Hong Kong and around the world will attend. 8. Presentation Ceremony of Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme (15 April 2013) By OGCIO Presentation ceremony of the first Government-led recognition scheme for local enterprises and organisations which have made their websites accessible. Target participants are representatives from enterprises, NGOs, academia and quasi-government organisations. 9. Hong Kong- Guangdong Cloud Industry Collaboration Forum (16 April 2013) By OGCIO and Guangdong Government Joint seminar co-organised by Hong Kong and Mainland authorities on the latest development in cloud computing. Target participants are Hong Kong and Mainland ICT professionals. 10. Internet of Things Symposium (17 April 2013) By Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation A symposium to bring developers and technology suppliers together to explore collaborations and to raise awareness of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Target participants are IoT vendors and solution providers, as well as corporate users. 11. SME ICT and Cloud Forum (19 April 2013) By Hong Kong Productivity Council A forum on the latest ICT and cloud solutions for SMEs. The Forum is opened to the public, especially for the SMEs

Launch of Mobility Experience Centre (21 April 2013) By Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited / Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association An event to signify the opening of the Mobility Experience Centre, which would be a showcase of Hong Kong s strengths in mobile and wireless application development. Target participants are general public, SMEs, ICT industry players
