3 General information Target group The program is intended for master students and starting PhD-students. It is necessary to have a course certificate in Immunology and/or Microbiology or courses with similar content. Course aim Utrecht University has a strong history in research Infection and Immunity. It is home to some world-wide expert research teams in this area. The aim of this course is to familiarize you in depth with the scientific knowledge in the field of Infection and Immunity. After this course students will be able to relate immunological principles and clinical consequences and will have knowledge about bacterial and viral related diseases. Especially on those areas where infection meets immunity Reading Immunology: Kuby et al. 6th edition, 2006, W.H. Freeman & Company Alberts - Molecular Biology of the Cell, 4th or 5th edition Schaechter s Mechanisms of Microbial Disease Webinars Feedback We value your opinion and try to improve our course every year. Breaks The Infection & Immunity Center Utrecht will provide you with coffee and tea during the coffee breaks. The University Hospital () will provide you with a lunch card. 17 Route description Public transportation The UMC is well accessible by public transportation. From the central train station (Utrecht CS) busses 11 and 12 go to the uithof and the. For bus 12 the UMC is the last bus stop. Bus 11 stops at the UMC, but it is not the last stop. Parking You can park your car at the parking space of the. From Den Haag/Rotterdam: (A12) follow Utrecht. At the junction Lunette, go in the direction Amersfoort (A27). Follow the signs H UMC. After you have left the highway, turn left at the traffic lights. From there, the university hospital is indicated. From Breda/Den Bosch (A27) or Arnhem (A12) At the junction Lunette, go in the direction Hilversum (A27) At the junction Rijnsweerd, go in the direction Amersfoort and directly leave the highway at exit De Uithof / UMC After you have left the highway, turn left at the traffic lights. 18 Route description venues Hijmans van den Bergh building Room HB 2.05 Start: main entrance o Go to the left and walk until you reach the red junction. o Go to the left, you are now entering the Hijmans van den Bergh building. o There is an elevator on your right, take the elevator to the 2 nd floor. o When you exit the elevator, go left. o Room HB 2.05 is the room in front of you. Wilhelmina Children s Hospital (WKZ) Kindertheater (Children s theatre) Start: main entrance o Walk straight until you can t go any further (you ll see 2 elevators in front of you and a glass door on your right). o Take the elevator to floor -1. o When you exit the elevator, go into the tunnel on your left. o Walk until you exit the tunnel o Go into the corridor on your left and walk until you reach the elevators and stairs. o Go to floor 0, you are now in the children s hospital. o Cross the foyer and go into the corridor. o The children s theatre is about halfway down the corridor, on the left.
