2 Why Continuing Professional Development? Donegal County Childcare Committee (DCCC) considers access to opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) as central to supporting and building on quality early childhood care and education practice. Cost and Funding CPD events are made possible through complementary funding obtained by DCCC from agencies with an interest in training. This is essential to allow DCCC to keep the cost of CPD events at a minimum for you. The Autumn / Winter Calendar of Events is supported by HSE Health Promotions. Certificates In recognition of the importance of CPD to your work practice, DCCC will provide all participants with a certificate of attendance for inclusion in your professional development profile/record of achievement. Keeping Safe, Children First Child Protection Training

3 Creating LifeLong Readers Keeping Safe, Children First Child Protection Training DCCC Creating Lifelong Readers Initiative aims to promote early literacy development through a partnership approach between early educators, parents and children. It focuses on the importance of early language, reading, writing and play as a means of helping children to develop the lifelong skill and enjoyment of reading. The programme includes training for early childhood educators and parents, as well as resources for early childhood services to run a weekly lending library for children. The resources include a book bag, pencil and diary for 20 children, for every early childhood setting attending. (Recommended 3 staff members attend per service to receive resources, exemptions apply. Contact DCCC for details.) During 2010 the Keeping Safe Programme underwent a significant revision which amalgamated an additional module on disability awareness - which raises awareness of Disability issues and child protection. This training is for any early educators who have not yet completed the full Children First Child Protection Training. Tuesday 25th September & Tuesday 2nd October 7.00pm pm 35 per person (or 100 per group of 3) Building Pictures of Learning Building Pictures of Learning is a practical programme that aims to assist early childhood care and education services to implement meaningful assessment procedures to inform, support and enhance children s learning and development. The Learning Story Approach underpins the programme and is used as an effective, child-learning and development informs the provision of appropriate learning opportunities and reveals the uniqueness of the young child as a learner. Early Childhood Educators must be trained to FETAC Level 5 to attend the training. DUNGLOE Saturday 13th & 20th October 10.00am pm 40 per person inishowen Monday 8th October & Monday 15th October 2.30pm pm 35 per person (or 100 per group of 3) Saturday 3rd November & Saturday 1st December (2 Saturdays) 9.30am pm 35 per person (or 110 per group of 4) Children First Training - New 3 Hour Additional Training This training is the new three hour session only, which includes two new sections on creating an inclusive environment and recruitment. This training is for any Early Childhood Educators who has recently completed the full 9 hour Children First training and therefore needs to update their current training with the additional new three hour part of the training. 4 FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid Due to changes in First Aid training, all occupational first aid training now must be accredited to a FETAC Level 5. To be qualified as an Occupational First Aider, a person must complete the new FECTAC Level 5 Certificate in Occupational First Aid Award. This course will provide educators with the practical knowledge, skills and understanding required to deal with a wide variety of situations requiring first aid attention. All First Aid training must be refreshed every 2 years. Aistear in Practice This one day workshop will provide practical information on implementing the Learning Aims and Goals of Aistear in an early childhood setting, including tips on how to introduce Aistear into your curriculum plans. The workshop aims to provide educators with a sound knowledge base to support them in continuing on to the Building Pictures of Learning training Participants on the training must have completed FETAC level 5. Drama Workshop A drama activity workshop designed for after school educators who are willing to get up and give it a go! This is a fun and energetic session and is packed full of creative ideas which can be transferred to the after school settings. Through guided role-playing, children will love to explore the fictional worlds they create. Stimulate children s imaginations by nurturing yours! Facebook is a great tool to promote your early childhood service, to existing and new parents, as 1 in 13 people on earth have a Facebook page. This workshop offers practical hands on experience in creating and using a face book page for your early childhood service.everyone who attends the session will have the opportunity to create a facebook page by the end of the session! 5 To book a place on any of the courses Please complete the booking form attached (also available on-line at and return with course fee to the Donegal County Childcare Committee. DCCC s courses will be allocated on a first come first served basis to those who return a booking form with accompanying course fee. Please note that attendees will receive a certificate of attendance on completing a full course (to add to your record of Continuous Professional Development). If you are unable to attend a course, please notify the DCCC at least five working days prior to the course start date. Failure to notify DCCC in the given timeframe will result in the loss of your payment. You will need to re-apply should you wish to attend the course on the next scheduled date. If a course is cancelled you will be notified as soon as possible. You can request your name to be added to the same course at the next available date, or your fee can be transferred to book another course, or you can have a full refund.
