Student Central s Contact Info: UWIN (8946) (toll-free) 1 st floor Centennial Hall Student Central s Hours: Monday to Thursday: 8:15 am to 5:30 pm Friday: 8:30 am to 4:15 pm 1

WebAdvisor Guide STEP 1 Access WebAdvisor 1. Using your web browser, go to 2. Click on Student at the top. 3. Under the Online Tools heading, click the WebAdvisor link 4. Click Log In located on the upper right navigation bar 5. Enter your User ID and password and click the Submit button Returning students: Use the same user ID and password that you have used before for WebAdvisor, Nexus and Webmail. New students: Your user ID and a temporary, seven- digit password were mailed to you shortly after you applied for admission. If you have lost or forgotten your user ID or password, use the What s my User ID? and/or Forgot My Password options by clicking on Log In or contact Student Central to have your password reset to the original, seven- digit password. STEP 2 Adding Courses to Your Preferred Sections Cart Prior to registering for courses on WebAdvisor, make a plan of the courses you need. To plan your registration, use WebAdvisor, the Timetable (in PDF), the Academic Calendar, and blank Timetable Worksheets. These tools can be found on our website at 1. To search for course availability, login to WebAdvisor and click Search for Courses/Register located in the Registration section. 2. Enter your search criteria. You must select, at minimum, a Term and a Subject. Click Submit. You may wish to narrow your search using Course Level. 1

3. A listing of all courses meeting your criteria will be listed. 4. If you want to read more about the course, click on the Section Name and Title. 5. Check to see if there are any special Notes for the courses you have selected. 6. Put a check mark in the box beside the course section that you are interested in and press Submit to create a list of Preferred Sections. This is like adding the course to your shopping cart. You are not registered yet. 7. Repeat this process for all of your courses to add them to your Preferred Sections list. STEP 3 Register Your Classes Once you have placed your courses into your timetable worksheet and have the courses you are interested in your Preferred Sections cart on WebAdvisor, you are now ready to register! 1. On or after your assigned registration start date and time, log in to WebAdvisor and click on Register/Drop Course Sections. You should see the classes that you placed in your Preferred Sections. 2. If you do not know your registration start date and time, check your UWinnipeg Webmail account or access this information on WebAdvisor by clicking View My Registration Time. 3. Using the Action drop down menu: a. For classes with space still available, choose Register in the drop down box beside the course. 2

b. For those courses that are full or waitlisted, select Waitlist in this box. For any full course that requires a lab, select Waitlist for the course, leave the menu for the lab blank and change the If one of my choices is not available option from ALL Allow me to adjust all to PART Complete only available. You will be placed on the waitlist for the course. There are no waitlists for the labs. If a spot opens up before the course begins, you will be sent a time-sensitive to your UWinnipeg Webmail account. Check your Webmail regularly. c. For classes that you would like to delete from your Preferred Sections list, select Remove from List. 4. Read and accept the University statement and select Submit. Note: students are financially and academically responsible for all courses in which they register. Students with pending financial aid (including student loans) are responsible for their full tuition owing if their request for financial aid is not approved. 5. The summary screen should provide you a list of which courses were registered, which were wait listed, and which ones were not processed. If there were any errors or issues with your registration, a detailed error message will be displayed. Please consult the Help! Common Error Messages section of this guide for assistance with error messages. There are several ways to confirm the courses that you are registered in: STEP 4 Verify Your Registration You can view your class schedule by clicking the link for My Class Schedule under Academic Profile. You will need to choose each of the terms you are registered in. You can view your unofficial transcript by clicking on the link for Transcript under Academic Profile. Choose UGEN UW General ASEB for undergraduate studies. You can view your Registration Statement by selecting My Account under Financial Information. Click on Student Finance and then Account Activity. In the Account Activity section, choose a term to view using the drop-down menu and either expand the section or click on View Statement. 3

STEP 5 Your Tuition Owing There are two main sections where you can verify your tuition owing. Both are found by clicking on My Account found under Financial Information and then Student Finance. 1. This will show the Make a Payment tab for each term that has fees owing. The overall balance can be found on the lower right of the screen. Note the date due (first day of term.) 2. You can see a detailed listing of your fees by selecting the Account Activity tab. Details are broken down by term. You can change the term using the menu at the top. The Account Activity will show, as applicable, the current charges to that individual term, payments, awards, refunds, payment plans and the overall remaining balance for that term. Click on Charges to expand and you will also see the courses that you are registered in for that term. You can click on View Statement by the term menu to create a printerfriendly PDF Registration/Financial Statement. You do not need to include this statement with your payment. See methods of payment: Help! Common Registration Problems A) Problems creating a new password: If you are having an issue when trying to create a new password on WebAdvisor, please ensure that you are creating a password that is 6 to 9 characters including both letters and numbers. Passwords with special characters such as! or # will not work. As well, you cannot use any of your last ten passwords. If you are still unable to create your password, please contact Student Central. B) Can t find a course when searching: Simplify your course search. If you are too specific, WebAdvisor might not list courses. Do not use dates or days of the week. If you are searching for a 3 credit course, ensure you are selecting either the Fall or the Winter term. Most 6 credit hour courses will be listed under the Fall/Winter term. C) Language courses: If you are registering in your first language class (e.g., French, Italian, Spanish), you should contact the Modern Language Department advisor ( ) to ensure you register at the right level. D) Prerequisite(s) Not Met error: Make sure that you register in your Fall and Fall/Winter courses first and then your Winter courses. This is required when a course in the Fall term is a prerequisite to a course in the Winter term. Check to see if you have the prerequisite(s) for the course by clicking on the course title. If you do not meet the prerequisite requirement(s), but still wish to take the course, you can request a prerequisite waiver from the department chair or the course instructor. Be prepared to state why you feel you have the necessary background for the waiver. If a prerequisite waiver is granted, the chair or the instructor will send an to Student Central and you will be registered into the course, if space permits, or placed on the waitlist. E) Courses with a lab: Courses with both a lecture and lab section must be registered together at the same time. Do not register in a lab without the course or the course without the lab! You can be removed from either one if you do not have both. 4

F) Registering in a course with a lab when there are no available seats in the lab: If there is another section of the lab with available seats, you must register in that lab. If there are no lab seats available in any lab section, please contact Student Central. G) Waitlist a course with a lab: Labs do not have waitlists. If you are encountering an issue when waitlisting for a course that has a lab, select Waitlist for the course, leave the menu for the lab blank and, at the bottom of the Register/Drop Course Sections screen, change the If one of my choices us not available option from ALL Allow me to adjust all to PART Complete only available. You will be placed on the waitlist for the course. Do not try to wait list the lecture and the lab at the same time. There are no waitlists for the labs. If a spot becomes available before the course begins, you will be sent a time-sensitive to your UWinnipeg Webmail account. Check your Webmail regularly as the spot will be held for you for a limited time. Wait list s are generally sent on Mondays and Thursdays. To register from the wait list for a course and a lab, use the Register/Drop Course Sections screen and select Register next to both the course and lab in Preferred Sections. Tip: Check your Webmail every Monday and Thursday. Permissions to register in a wait-listed course are usually ed on those days. The permission is time sensitive and will expire if you miss the (or don t check Manage My Waitlist.) H) Granted Petition/Permission forms and Honours-level courses: Some courses require that you have permission from the Department Chair or permission from the course instructor before you can register. This is the message you will see in WebAdvisor: XXXX-9999 A Granted Petition is required for registration in XXXX Honours-level courses also require you to meet with the Department Chair or designate prior to registering for honours courses. If you are granted permission to take a course, an from the department will be sent to Student Central. Approval to take the course will be added to your student record and a Student Central representative will either phone or you to let you know that it is now okay for you to register. I) Time conflict: WebAdvisor will prevent you from registering for courses with times that overlap. You can speak to the department chair or instructor for one of the courses for permission to register. J) CATEP and WEC courses: Only students in the CATEP program can register for courses with sections 245 to 249. Only students in the WEC program can register for courses with sections 250 to 259. K) Holds: WebAdvisor will prevent you from registering in courses if you have any holds on your account. Holds are displayed at the top of the WebAdvisor page after you attempt to register in classes. Common holds include: Fee Hold You might have outstanding tuition or late fees. Please contact Student Central to make arrangements for payment and clear the hold. Library Hold You might have outstanding books or library fines. Please contact the library to make arrangements for payment and clear the hold. Athlete Hold Athletes need permission from the Director of Athletics to make course changes once the year/term begins. They can take the permission form to Student Central or Student Records to register in person. Other Hold Please contact Student Central if you are unsure about a hold on your account. Note: s to or should always be sent from your UWinnipeg Webmail account and include your name and student number. 5

Dropping a Course Ceasing to attend classes does not constitute a withdrawal. 1. Consult the Withdrawal Schedules to see if you are able to drop the course and/or if you are eligible for a tuition refund. To find the Withdrawal Schedules, go to click on Student and then Withdrawal Schedules. 2. To drop a course, login to WebAdvisor and click Register/Drop Courses Sections located in the Registration section. 3. This will show your Current Registrations and there will be a column on the left called Drop. Check the box(es) beside the course(s) that you would like to drop. 4. Read and accept the University statement and select Submit. 5. The summary screen should provide you a list of which courses were dropped, and which ones were not processed. If there were any errors or issues with your registration, a detailed error message will be displayed. Ways to Verify Your Course Drop In addition to the summary screen message, there are several other ways to confirm that you successfully dropped the course(s): Click Register/Drop Courses Sections again. Verify the dropped course is no longer listed under Current Registrations. View your class schedule by clicking the link for My Class Schedule under Academic Profile. Choose the term from which you are dropped a class. The dropped course should no longer be there. View your unofficial transcript by clicking on the link for Transcript under Academic Profile. Choose UGEN UW General ASEB for undergraduate studies. The dropped course should no longer be listed. You can view your Registration Statement by selecting My Account under Financial Information. Click on Student Finance and then Account Activity. In the Account Activity section, choose the appropriate term to view using the drop-down menu and either expand the Charges and UW Tuition sections or click on View Statement. If you withdraw from the course and are eligible for a refund, the dropped course will not appear (because you are no longer charged for it.) If you are still being charged for the course, verify that it says Dropped in the Status column. Note: Nexus is not an exact reflection of your registration. Courses may remain on Nexus after they have been dropped. View Your Grades 1. To view your final grades (on your unofficial transcript), click on the link for Transcript under Academic Profile. 2. Choose UGEN UW General ASEB for undergraduate studies. Fall Term grades are posted about the third week of January. Fall/Winter and Winter Term grades are posted about the third week of May. 6
