Projects 2014 Now: PHEE: Participation in Healthcare Environment Engineering (me as a Research Fellow) PHEE brings together healthcare with participatory design and built environment design. The multi- disciplinary team (members including computer scientists, ergonomists, psychologists, architects, engineers and designers) is delivering high- impact research to improve the user experience of healthcare environments, through end user participation in design, engineering and decision- making. PHEE aims to produce better healthcare environment design and new methods for end user participation in the healthcare environment design. My Role: design, implementation and evaluation of digital co- design tools; design and conducting experiments, data collection and analysis; writing- up papers; writing- up research proposals; organising workshops. Funder: EPSRC : Scaffolding for Social Personalised Adaptive E- Learning (my PhD study) This project aims to alleviate the weaknesses and pitfalls of the strong modern trend of e- learning by capitalising on and taking advantage of theoretical and implementation advances that have been made in the fields of adaptive hypermedia, social computing, games research and motivation theories. I explored a novel combination of classical adaptation based on user modelling, fine- grained social interaction features and a Facebook- like appearance, proposed contextual gamification strategies rooted in Self- Determination Theory (SDT), proposed a new method of multifaceted open social learner modelling. 5 : Topolor 2 (A sub- project in my PhD study, Topolor 2 is built upon Topolor 1. It is devised to enable a new approach of "contextual gamification strategies" rooted in the self- determination and flow theories, in order to keep learners motivated in performing desirable learning behaviours and achieving pre- specified learning goals, and thus provide a high level of learners motivation. It also implements "multifaceted open social learner modelling", which visualises both learners performance and contribution, provides various comparison modes, and is integrated and adapted to learning contents, to provide a higher level of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. My Role: design, implementation and evaluation. Programming: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, jquery, Yii, Bootstrap Funder: Warwick Graduate School, Warwick Computer Science : Topolor 1 (A sub- project in my PhD study, shek.rhcloud.com) Topolor is a social personalised adaptive e- learning system. It is developed based on the hypothesis that classical adaptation based on user modelling, fine- grained social interaction features and a Facebook- like appearance of a system, anticipated to make the environment familiar to learners, will subsequently increase their effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. My Role: design, implementation (from scratch) and evaluation. Programming: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, jquery, Yii, Bootstrap : MOT 2.0 (A sub- project in my PhD study) MOT 2.0 is an adaptive Web 2.0 e- learning system that supports collaborative authoring, authoring for collaboration, group- based adaptive authoring via group- based privileges, social, adaptive authoring, and adaptive delivery based on users activities. My Role: 1) Implemented algorithm to group students based on their knowledge level; 2) Implemented monitoring mechanism to collect usage data; 3) analysed usage data to compare different groups, in terms of learning performance and behaviours, in order to analysis the influence of personalisation and social interaction on the learning process.
