! Pogemiller Country Chiropractic Welcome To My Practice! Congratulations! I very proud to welcome you as a new patient of my clinic. I always feel so good when I accept a new patient, because I know how good you re going to feel after your recommended chiropractic care plan goes into action. I am always thrilled to get the expressions of gratitude and thanks from patients who ve had to put up with pain and nagging discomfort for so long and who are now experiencing the many life changing results of their care! See, I entered into the Chiropractic profession by choice. I knew that the Chiropractic method of caring for many ailments and conditions makes the most sense. I was attracted to this wonderful method of healthcare because it s a fact that the spine is the center of the nervous system and your health is directly affected by how the spine and other bones relating to it are aligned (or misarranged). Our profession has perfected the science of re- aligning the spine and bones, so your body s own restorative powers can work the way nature intended them to! (Which cannot happen when your body is out of alignment). You have no idea how much pleasure and reward I get every single day helping people reduce or eliminate relentless symptoms that they had learned to live with. Imagine how much fun it is to go to work every day knowing that what you do gives back lost quality of life, which is priceless. This is exactly why I am so excited about you becoming a patient. We are both going to experience a sense of accomplishment, as we achieve your goals together. My number one goal is to get you feeling better quickly and painlessly and to have you be another success story! So, here s what needs to happen so you can get the maximum benefits from our working relationship. First off, you do need to be diligent about keeping your appointments. While it s true our techniques and methods of realigning your spine and bones are at the cutting edge of holistic science and natural healing. We cannot accomplish both our objectives without you following the care plan I set out for you. Obviously, if you
miss adjustments your body will not be able to take advantage of the assistance I am giving it by properly aligning the spine and you won t get or stay better. Don t forget that our office will do everything possible to assure that your visits will be quick, efficient and productive. We know how busy your life is and will schedule your appointments at times that will be as convenient as can be for you. I know you ll always enjoy your visits to our clinic. It s a very relaxed atmosphere. Second, you must be sure to share any concerns or question you have. It is your responsibility to help us help you by keeping the lines of communication wide open! While I know a lot, I cannot know everything you re experiencing. If you allow me to listen to you, I can address your concerns and make changes to your care if necessary. Unlike many doctors, I encourage questions and your participation in your own healing. I do not view myself as a person too important to listen to your fears, concerns or questions. You are the reason I am here, and I promise to honor and respect you in the manner you deserve. Guests are always welcome whether they want to become a patient or not. Here s to a long and rewarding relationship! Sincerely, Lucas Pogemiller, D.C.
Clarence S. Gonstead How did this Chiropractor with crippled, gnarled hands...build the LARGEST chiropractic clinic in the world? In the early 1960's word was spreading throughout the world that there was a healer in a small farming community in Wisconsin to whom people of all ages, and walks of like, were flocking. Who was this man and what was his method? The man was Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead. He became a chiropractor in 1923 following a personal experience with chiropractic that had helped his body heal from a painful, crippling episode of rheumatoid arthritis. With a background in mechanical engineering, he would come to apply the principles of this discipline to the evaluation of the spine. As part of a life long study of the spine, he would often fly his private plane to Indianapolis to dissect, study, stain, photograph and then reconstruct cadaver spines at Lincoln Chiropractic College. Based on his studies, he developed the "foundation principle" to explain how a fixation in one area of the spine created compensatory bio-mechanical changes and symptoms in another. He was a pioneer in the chiropractic profession, developing equipment and a method of anaylsis that used more than one criteria to verify the precise location of vertebral subluxation (a subluxation is a spinal bone that is fixated or "stuck" resulting in nerve pressure and interfering with the innate ability of the body to maintain health.) Dr. Gonstead attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA. He practiced in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. While practicing he built the largest chiropractic practice to date. During his lifetime he saw over one million patients from all over the world. He built a motel next to his clinic to house the patients while they were being seen at the Gonstead Clinic. Dr. Gonstead was dedicated to the profession. He developed seminars to teach other chiropractors his methods of specifically addressing the spine. Doctors are taught to use the five criteria to conduct a thorough analysis of your spine to detect the presence of subluxations (spinal misalignnments producing interference to the nerve system and cause health problems).
Gonstead Analysis (5 Steps): 1. Visualization - The Gonstead doctor looks for subtle changes in posture, movement and gait. 2. Static palpation - The doctor feels for any swelling, tenderness, or abnormal texture or tightness in the muscles and soft tissues. 3. Motion palpation - The doctor guides the patient through their able range of motion while feeling how each individual joint is moving. 4. Instrumentation - A hand held thermocouple instrument is used to measure unequal head distribution along the spine. Excessive localized heat can indicate inflammation and nerve irritation. 5. X-ray - X-rays are taken weight bearing and are used to look for any disease process, fracture, posture, biomechanics, joint and disc integrity and vertebral misalignment. Gonstead Adjustment: After this thorough analysis, if it is determined that you have a subluxation, the doctor will prescribe specific adjustments. The Gonstead approach is the gold standard for specificity and safety in chiropractic. Only the problem area is adjusted in only the direction needed. These adjustments are precise, effective, gentle and painless. Many who have had negative experiences with other adjusting techniques respond quite favorably to the Gonstead system of chiropractic. Dr. Lucas Pogemiller of Pogemiller Country Chiropractic is dedicated to offer the best in Chiropractic care to all ages of patients. He has seen patients from newborn to 90 plus years old. Dr. Pogemiller has spent much time learning and practicing the Gonstead System of chiropractic. He has attended over 100 hours of Gonstead seminars and has used that knowledge to help many patients. Often patients have been elsewhere and not been able to get relief from other practitioners. Many Americans today are health and body conscious. We want to look and feel our best by taking care of our bodies -- exercising, getting regular dental and eye exams, and by getting enough sleep. In doing so, we ignore the focal point of where much of the pain associated with our daily activities originates -- our spine.
The vertebral subluxation complex, an often painless spinal distortion, can irritate or damage your spinal nerves, interfere with your brain-body connection and affect your spine, nerves, discs, muscles, organs and overall health. Doctors of chiropractic specialize in the detection and correction of the vertebral subluxation complex - restoring the lines of communication within your body and improving your overall body function, healing potential and well-being. 8 ! Pogemiller Country Chiropractic Back Care Instructions v The spine is the central structure of the body. You must respect this structure so that it will give you strong, flexible service for a long time to come. v The spine also carries the neurological lifeline from the brain to all the other parts of the body. The functional health of the body depends on the flow of an unrestricted nervous system. When your spine suffers, your overall health can suffer, too. v Always stand as erect as possible, with your shoulders, back and your head centered directly over the spine. Try to sit in the same manner, erect, with head over the spine. v Do not sit with your legs crossed, except at the ankles. v When you lift try to bend from the knees and not from the back, keeping your back straight at all times. Hold the weight close to your body as you carry it. v Mothers of small children must be very careful to not bend from the back but bend from the knees instead when lifting any child from the bed or floor. v You must have a good firm mattress to sleep on with no lumps or sags, as one third of your life is spent in bed. v Never sleep on your stomach. Sleep on your back or side instead. When on your back lie flat with a thin pillow under your head and neck and a pillow under your knees. Do not sleep with more than one pillow under your head. Your neck should not be pushed up so that your chin moves down toward your chest. A pillow should support your neck according to its natural curve, allowing your head to rest in a neutral position. v When you sleep on your side, support the head and neck so your spine will remain in a straight line as you are viewed from the front. Your legs should be at a 30 to 45 degree angle and not drawn up in a knot. You may feel more comfortable with a pillow between your knees to keep your pelvis from being tilted. v A shaped cervical pillow or a feather pillow is best. v Do not rest on a couch with your head propped on the armrest. v No reading in bed, neither propped on your elbows, nor lying flat. v In ordinary cases, do not do any excessive lifting (over lbs.) during the first 4-6 weeks of treatment
