The High Performing Workplace Index (HPWI) survey and results provide the information you need to identify your level of performance and how it compares with others in your sector. High Performing Workplaces is a notfor-profit organisation set up to make Australian workplaces the most innovative, productive and professionally satisfying in the world. It has worked with industry associations, universities and workplace management experts to develop a methodology that gathers the views of everyone in your business. The results reflect your systems and culture from every angle. It captures participants views on business productivity, innovation, culture, fairness, leadership, wellbeing and customer service. The wellbeing component is based on the wellbeing research of former Adelaide Thinker in Residence and internationally renowned psychologist Professor Martin Seligman, and is tailored to local workplaces and their needs. 4 Efficient. Productive. Profitable. Why focus on workplace performance? Better-performing workplaces are measurably more productive and more profitable. Around the world, businesses are becoming more successful by increasing the performance of their workplaces. Large and small firms, government agencies and not-for-profits of all sizes and in all sectors report that as they become better-performing they are: more productive more competitive more profitable more innovative better at keeping talented employees. A recent Australian study showed high performing workplaces: are 12% productive earn about $40,000 a year more for each employee are 25% more innovative in creating and producing new products and services are 23% better at retaining employees than their low-performing peers. But improvements in performance don t just happen. Measurement and benchmarking are the first steps to identifying what factors may lead to higher performance and its benefits for your business. 5 How does the HPWI work? Participating in the survey will help generate a complete picture of your workplace a 360 perception of your business placing you in the best position to identify how your business rates and how you can improve for maximum profitability. The more people from your business who complete the survey, the more complete the picture and the more accurate the results. STEP 1 STEP 2 Express your interest and register as an HPWI participant. Complete the online survey, along with your employees. STEP 3 STEP 4 High Performing Workplaces calculates your performance and generates a customised benchmark report for you and your business, identifying opportunity gaps and priorities. You may be referred to Australian and State Government grants and programs, organisations and mentors that your results suggest may help you become a higher-performing workplace ready to reap the profit and culture rewards that will bring. 6 Wellbeing and high performance Wellbeing is important in how people cope with difficulty, and how happy and satisfied they are with their personal and professional lives. The higher the levels of wellbeing among staff members in a workplace, the higher the level of performance and productivity. International positive psychology expert Professor Martin Seligman has measured wellbeing in South Australian businesses, universities and schools. He s pointed out that increasing wellbeing can improve student and employee satisfaction and business performance. Professor Seligman s research led to the establishment in 2014 of the Wellbeing and Resilience Centre at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Centre (SAHMRI) in Adelaide s groundbreaking health and medical science precinct. The HPWI survey includes questions derived from Professor Seligman s work. Participating will provide important information about the wellbeing of your workforce. HIGH PERFORMING WORKPLACE INDEX

7 The cost to a typical business is $1,500 for a standard report. Tailored reports are available at additional cost. You may be eligible for a South Australian Government subsidy of up to 50 per cent of the cost of the standard report. Most business owners and financial and human resource managers complete the survey in about an hour. Employees complete a shorter survey that takes about 20 minutes.
