FAQ BROCADE DATA CENTER FABRIC MANAGER (DCFM) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Overview Brocade Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM ) is a new solution for managing enterpriseclass data center environments. Combined with the full range of Brocade switching products, Brocade DCFM provides a complete solution for highly efficient, cost-effective management of networked storage environments. Three editions of DCFM are available: DCFM Enterprise, DCFM Professional Plus, and DCFM Professional (described in detail below). General Questions and Answers Strategic Q What is Brocade DCFM and what is its role in the data center? A DCFM is key component of the Brocade data center networking strategy. It is designed to unify management of data center environments from the storage ports to the Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) and Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) attached to physical or virtualized servers. It configures and manages the Brocade DCX Backbone family of products along with Brocade directors, routers, and switches, HBAs, and CNAs. Moreover, it supports Brocade encryption capabilities for data-at-rest and the management of emerging storage networking protocols such as Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE), as well as the first Brocade FCoE products: the Brocade 8000 Switch and the Brocade FCOE10-24 Blade for the Brocade DCX Backbone. Q How does DCFM provide unified management of data center networking environments? A Today, DCFM provides unified management through integrated HBA/CNA management, support for encryption of data-at-rest, the ability to set Quality of Service (QoS) priorities for servers hosting applications that travel across the network, and reporting on the most bandwidth-consuming traffic flows (Top Talkers). Each new DCFM release is designed to improve on these unified management capabilities, including third-party HBA/CNA management and seamless integration with industry-leading third-party management tools. Q How does DCFM complement Storage Resource Management (SRM) solutions? A As part of a common management framework, DCFM Enterprise integrates with leading third-party Storage Resource Management (SRM) solutions (such as EMC

Control Center, IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, and HP Storage Essentials) through frameworks such as Storage Management Initiative-Specification (SMI-S). Q What is Brocade s direction for management solutions, particularly with its investment in HBAs and IP networks? A Brocade plans to issue a new release of DCFM approximately twice a year. Each new release will include support for new hardware platforms along with enhancements to existing features. Over time, Brocade plans to release several new management products to enhance the DCFM product family. HBA/CNA management, unified SAN/LAN management, and virtualization will all substantially benefit from these types of new releases. DCFM Enterprise Q What problems does DCFM Enterprise solve within the data center? A With its robust set of capabilities, DCFM Enterprise enables you to reduce administration errors, maximize network availability, meet SLA requirements with minimal network resources, and contain operating expenses. Q What are some of the important capabilities of DCFM Enterprise? A The top capabilities in DCFM Enterprise include: Unprecedented scalability up to 9000 switch ports delivered by an industryproven J2EE architecture with database independence via JDBC and ODBC, and interrupt-based communication. Multiprotocol capabilities with support for Fibre Channel, FICON, Fibre Channel Routing, FCIP, and iscsi. In addition, DCFM Enterprise supports emerging protocols such as FCoE and CEE, including the Brocade 8000 Switch and the Brocade FCOE10-24 Blade. An overarching view of fabric health with at-a-glance views of switch and Inter- Switch Link (ISL) health status, including a connectivity map for status per device, performance utilization rate per ISL, and visualization of end devices, including virtual machines. Performance monitoring proactively addresses issues with both real-time and historical performance data collection, monitoring, and graphical displays (across Fibre Channel, FCoE, CEE, FCIP, and Fibre Channel Routing ports and connections), including support for end-to-end performance monitoring. Fault management helps manage events and failures in the data center by configuring rule-based events. You can define triggers that prompt user actions. Troubleshooting and diagnostics streamline problem resolution. Call Home enables automatic calls into specific OEM Service Centers when specified triggering conditions are met. Call Home defines how DCFM should respond to certain events, including automatically capturing diagnostic information from the switches. Extensive zoning capabilities support analysis of the impact of zoning changes offline without affecting the production fabric. Configuration management enables automated backup of critical configurations across data centers and promotes configuration consistency across the fabric. 2 of 13

Security management allows multiple levels of user access and views with flexible definitions of administrator responsibilities; helps maintain consistent security settings across multiple switches by leveraging the Security Replication Wizard; and manages the configuration, settings, and ongoing management of Brocade fabric-based data-at-rest encryption products. FICON and cascaded FICON environment configuration and management provides powerful analysis and diagnostic capabilities, as well as SAN-level RNID data display, Port Connectivity Dialog, FICON Emulation support, and Multi-PDCM matrix display. Fibre Channel-over-IP (FCIP) and Fibre Channel Routing support enables the configuration, monitoring, and optimization of FCIP tunnels across WAN links, as well as configuration, zoning, visualization, analysis, and troubleshooting tools. Virtual Fabric management provides an intuitive and easy-to-use interface to help overcome the added complexity of managing virtual data center environments. Virtualization support makes DCFM virtualization-aware, allowing it to view information about the Virtual Machines residing in each physical server and to correlate that information with its own to simplify the management of virtualized environments Integrated Brocade HBA/CNA management provides a central point to monitor and manage Brocade HBAs/CNAs across multiple fabrics and data centers, including performance and event management as well as troubleshooting and end-to-end management operations such as FCSP Q Who should use DCFM Enterprise? A DCFM Enterprise provides unified management across 24 fabrics. It is designed for enterprise-class director- and backbone-based installations, FICON environments, and fabrics leveraging routing and extension as well as encryption, HBAs, and virtualization. Q How well does DCFM Enterprise scale? A DCFM Enterprise is designed to manage the ever-increasing amounts of data moving across the network. It scales to support up to 9000 switch ports over three times the number supported by EFCM. [Note: Scalability for mixed Brocade Fabric OS /M-Enterprise OS and M-EOS only fabrics is approximately 5000 switch ports.] Q Does DCFM Enterprise manage Brocade M-Series fabrics? A Yes, DCFM Enterprise is designed to manage B-Series (FOS), M-Series (M-EOS), and mixed B-Series (FOS) and M-Series (M-EOS) fabrics. To improve scalability beyond EFCM s ability to support 2500 ports, DCFM has been engineered to perform hardware discovery using a method that substantially reduces network traffic and increases performance. This new hardware discovery method is based on either a FOS or M-EOS discovery switch. 3 of 13

Q What are DCFM Enterprise s competitive advantages? A DCFM Enterprise offers advantages such as: Unified management of all networking protocols: Fibre Channel, FICON, Fibre Channel Routing, FCIP, iscsi, FCoE, and CEE Unmatched performance and scalability (up to 9000 switch ports and 20,000 end devices per management server instance) N-tier extensible J2EE architecture with embedded RDMBS and out-of-the-box ODBC/JDBC drivers for database access Multiswitch management (firmware download, automated configuration backup, configuration replication, performance monitoring on switch ports across multiple switches, multiple FICON PDCMs, and so on) Server virtualization support, including N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV), the ability to configure QoS for Virtual Machines or to provide Virtual Machine information from virtualization hypervisors, and so on Wizard-driven approach to seamlessly perform complex configuration tasks (such as FCR/FCIP configuration, cascaded FICON setup, and so on) Powerful Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) functions with comprehensive support for Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) mechanisms such as RADIUS, LDAP, and Active Directory Unified management of HBAs and SAN fabrics Q Is there a training course for DCFM? A Yes, the instructor-led DCFM 200 course covers DCFM installation and configuration. Q Will upgrades to major version releases of DCFM Enterprise be included with the Service and Support contracts (such as 10.0 to 11.0)? A Yes. Q Will DCFM support Administrative Domains? A Prior to Fabric OS 6.2.0, Brocade implemented a feature called Administrative Domains for management isolation only. An Administrative Domain (Admin Domain) is a logical grouping of fabric elements that defines which switches, ports, and devices can be viewed and modified. It provides a filtered administrative view of the fabric. Starting with Fabric OS 6.2.0, Brocade supports a new model of Virtual Fabrics, an optional feature that meets the criteria as defined by the ANSI T11 FC-SW-4 Virtual Fabrics standard. As such, support for Admin Domains is not currently planned in DCFM. Organizations deploying Admin Domains can work with Brocade to optimize management of their existing environments with Fabric Manager or consider migrating to Virtual Fabrics, which are fully supported with DCFM. Q What professional services are available for DCFM Enterprise? A To help organizations implement and fully utilize the benefits of DCFM Enterprise, Brocade offers services that leverage best practices to optimize management. Implementation includes the installation of Brocade DCFM Enterprise, SAN discovery, and setup for users, groups, zones, and access controls. Upon completion, organizations 4 of 13

Configure actions in response to certain events, such as sending proactive e- mail notifications to specific users Trap monitoring events and pass them to third-party monitoring applications using SNMP Trap Forwarding Q Who should use DCFM Professional? A DCFM Professional is designed for organizations that have a FOS-only environment and want a management solution for smaller SANs based on a single fabric. Q Can DCFM Professional manage more than one fabric? A DCFM Professional can discover multiple fabrics. However, only one fabric can be managed at a time. Users can switch from one fabric to another to perform management operations. Only the selected fabric is actively monitored by DCFM Professional. Users that want to monitor and manage two fabrics with DCFM Professional must use a separate server per DCFM Professional instance. Q What are the differences between DCFM Professional, DCFM Professional Plus, and DCFM Enterprise? A The main difference is that DCFM Professional manages FOS-based devices for a single fabric up to 1000 ports at a time, while DCFM Enterprise manages FOS and M-EOS devices across multiple fabrics up to 9000 ports. In addition, DCFM Professional provides real-time performance monitoring while DCFM Enterprise provides both real-time and historical performance monitoring (see the following table). 6 of 13

Q Does DCFM ship with a server (such as an appliance)? A No, DCFM is a standalone application. You can deploy DCFM on the server of your choice as long as it meets the minimum requirements, which are specified in the DCFM data sheet and the product manuals. Q Can the existing 1U EFCM Server be used for DCFM 10.3? A No, the existing 1U EFCM Server does not meet the system requirements for DCFM Q What is the discovery switch and why is it important for DCFM? A DCFM requires a discovery switch to receive in-band fabric-wide information (such as name server, zoning, and fabric membership.) The discovery switch applies to pure FOS, pure M-EOS, and mixed FOS/M-EOS fabrics in Native Connectivity mode. It enables you to activate or suspend discovery on a fabric without losing information, and it greatly increases the scalability and responsiveness of DCFM by dramatically reducing the amount of polling required to each individual element discovered by DCFM. Q Does DCFM Enterprise manage M-Series fabrics? A Yes. With the release of DCFM 10.3, pure M-EOS fabrics are now supported through the use of an M-EOS discovery switch. The scalability for pure M-EOS fabrics is the same as for mixed FOS/M-EOS fabrics. [NOTE: M-Series devices are not supported in DCFM Professional.] Q Which devices qualify as a discovery switch? A For pure FOS or mixed FOS/M-EOS fabrics, the recommended discovery switches include: Small fabrics: Use an entry-level FOS switch, such as a Brocade 200E or Brocade 300 Medium and large fabrics: Use a Brocade 4900 or Brocade 5300 (Brocade DCX, Brocade DCX-4S, or Brocade is recommended) For M-EOS only fabrics, the following guidelines apply: A Brocade M4400, M4700, M6140, or Mi10K are recommended to obtain complete fabric membership information If none of the above is present, a Sphereon 3xxx, 4500, or Intrepid 6064 should be used In addition, DCFM expects the discovery switch to run the highest level of firmware. The minimum firmware requirements are: FOS fabrics: FOS switch running 5.0+ firmware M-EOS fabrics: M-EOS switch running 9.6+ (M-EOS or higher recommended to obtain complete fabric membership information) Mixed fabrics: FOS switch running 6.0+ Finally, if there is at least one FOS based switch in the fabric, DCFM requires that switch to be used as discovery switch. 9 of 13

Q Which devices do not qualify as a discovery switch? A The following devices do not qualify: Switch in Brocade Access Gateway mode Switch connected to the fabric via EX/VEX_Port types For pure M-EOS fabrics, the Sphereon 4300 cannot be used as discovery switch Q Does a Logical Switch qualify as a discovery switch? A Yes. With the release of Virtual Fabrics in FOS 6.2, a Logical Switch can be used to initiate fabric discovery for both FOS-only and mixed FOS/M-EOS fabrics. How DCFM Is Sold Q Where can I get DCFM Enterprise or DCFM Professional Plus? A DCFM Enterprise and DCFM Professional Plus are sold globally by all major storage vendors, value-added resellers and distributors, as well as Brocade. Some major storage vendors sell and distribute DCFM Enterprise and DCFM Professional Plus under their product brands. Brocade DCFM Enterprise is currently available via Brocade channel partners and OEMs such as IBM, EMC, HP, HDS, Sun, and NetApp. Brocade expects all partners will offer DCFM Professional Plus by the end of Q Are evaluations copies of Brocade DCFM available? A Yes, evaluations are available at and registration is required. Brocade provides fully functional evaluation versions that operate for 75 days after installation. The evaluation software can easily be upgraded to the fully licensed product with the purchase of a software license key. Q Can DCFM be a site-based or group-based license? A No, there is no site license for DCFM. Given the high scalability of the software (up to 9000 switch ports), a site license is not expected to be necessary. Q Can a second DCFM software instance be installed for disaster recovery? A Yes, two instances of DCFM are recommended for redundancy. The DCFM End-User License Agreement (EULA) allows the same license to be installed on a second server for disaster recovery purposes only. Q Is DCFM a new product, and will it require a new software license agreement? A Yes, DCFM Enterprise and DCFM Professional Plus are new products. Whether you obtain DCFM Enterprise as new or part of an upgrade, or in the case of DCFM Professional Plus, the following is required: 1. The order needs to be placed for a new software license (new or upgrade) and maintenance. 2. New installation: a. Automatic migration of most data and configurations from EFCM or Fabric Manager to DCFM Enterprise as long as the minimum versions levels are met (EFCM 9.6 or higher or Fabric Manager 5.4 or higher). b. Use a new serial number and license key to install the product. 3. Acceptance of the DCFM End User License Agreement. 10 of 13

Transition to DCFM Enterprise from EFCM or Fabric Manager Q Who should upgrade from EFCM or Fabric Manager to DCFM Enterprise? A With added support for pure M-EOS fabrics in DCFM 10.3, all EFCM and Fabric Manager users should consider migrating to DCFM Enterprise at their earliest convenience, especially if they are deploying new hardware platforms or want to use new FOS features provided after the introduction of DCFM, such as: Brocade DCX-4S Backbone Brocade Encryption Switch Brocade FS8-18 Encryption Blade Brocade 8000 Switch Brocade FCOE10-24 Blade Brocade 7800 Extension Switch Brocade FX8-24 Extension Blade Virtual Fabrics Q Why is DCFM Enterprise better than EFCM? A While there are many improvements in DCFM Enterprise, the most important are for scalability. EFCM does not scale beyond the supported 2500 switch ports, which limits enterprise deployment and requires multiple management servers. DCFM Enterprise scales up to 9000 switch ports because of its built-in database repository and other communications-based improvements. Other improvements include faster asset collection and higher performance between server and client communications, because only the relevant updates and changes are published. Q Is the DCFM Enterprise upgrade available at no charge to EFCM or Fabric Manager users? A Brocade end users (EFCM or Fabric Manager purchased directly from Brocade or through a value-added reseller/distributor) receive DCFM Enterprise based on the following requirements: EFCM 9.6+ and Fabric Manager 5.4+ users with a valid software license are entitled to upgrade to a DFCM Enterprise license at no additional charge. Users upgrading to DCFM Enterprise are required to purchase a service agreement with a minimum one-year term (Brocade OEM Partners might have different support and upgrade policies). Q Do I need a current EFCM or Fabric Manager Maintenance contract to be entitled to the no-charge upgrade to the DCFM Enterprise software license? A No, you need a valid EFCM or Fabric Manager software license to upgrade to DCFM Enterprise. You need to provide a valid EFCM or Fabric Manager serial number in order to obtain the DCFM Enterprise software license key. 11 of 13

Q What are the supported migration paths from EFCM or Fabric Manager to DCFM? A If you are running EFCM 9.6 (or higher) or Fabric Manager 5.4 (or higher), you will be able to upgrade directly to the following DCFM releases: DCFM Enterprise or higher DCFM Enterprise or higher DCFM Enterprise or higher Q Can EFCM or Fabric Manager be upgraded to DCFM Professional? A No, EFCM or Fabric Manager users need to migrate to DCFM Enterprise. Q What happens to my investment in the Advanced Module? A EFCM Advanced Module capabilities have been added to DCFM Enterprise, so you can upgrade to DCFM Enterprise and enjoy the capabilities at no additional cost. Q What is the expected lifetime of Fabric Manager and EFCM? A The End of Sale date for Fabric Manager is August 3, This will be followed by three additional years of technical support. No End of Sale date has been set for EFCM, and customers will continue to be able to purchase it through at least Q Is the transition to DCFM Enterprise mandatory or can I use EFCM or Fabric Manager to manage existing fabrics? A No, upgrading to DCFM is not mandatory. You can still use EFCM or Fabric Manager to manage M-EOS, FOS, or mixed M-EOS/FOS fabrics. That said, EFCM and Fabric Manager will not support Brocade devices or features released after August Enhanced Group Management Q What is Enhanced Group Management? A Enhanced Group Management (EGM) is a FOS-enabled license to ensure that Brocade devices can be managed out of the box by DCFM. Specifically, EGM enables simultaneous management of groups of switches and devices in terms of configurations, firmware downloads, and more. Q Which Brocade devices have the EGM license bundled? A The EGM license is a standard component of Brocade devices, starting with the Brocade DCX Backbone and 8 Gbit/sec switches (Brocade 300, Brocade 5100, and Brocade 5300). All future Brocade platforms will ship with an EGM license. Q How is EGM distributed and licensed? A Through most Brocade Partners, the EGM license is bundled with the device. In rare cases, the EGM license must be purchased separately to ensure that the device can participate in group configuration activities in DCFM. EGM is a FOS-enabled license, similar to Advanced Performance Monitoring and Fabric Watch. Q How does EGM get on legacy Brocade switches? A The EGM license is grandfathered in for legacy switches (Brocade 5000, Brocade 4100, and so on) and directors (Brocade 48000). DCFM treats those devices as 12 of 13

though they already have EGM enabled. From a firmware level perspective, the only requirement is around DCFM and FOS firmware levels (5.x and above). Q Should I continue to purchase Element Managers for M-Series products, even if I have migrated to DCFM Enterprise? A Yes, Element Managers (also known as Product Managers) for M-Series products are required for either DCFM or EFCM. Other Q With DCFM Professional, where does this leave Web Tools? A Brocade Web Tools will continue to be bundled with Brocade devices as the element manager for FOS-based devices. However, most of the fabric-level functionality now resides in DCFM. Q Is there anything different with Web Tools? A There have been some changes to Web Tools to better align it with the offerings in DCFM. Some Web Tools capabilities have been migrated to DCFM. Refer to the FOS Administrator s Guide or the DCFM Migration and Transition Guide for a summary of these changes. Q Will Host Connectivity Manager (HCM), the element manager for Brocade HBAs and CNAs, be completely integrated with DCFM or will it always be link-and-launch? A Brocade HCM will continue to exist as the element manager for Brocade HBAs and CNAs. However, DCFM incorporates multi-hba/cna management capabilities, providing unified management of SANs and HBAs/CNAs including support for third-party HBAs/CNAs in a future release Brocade Communications Systems, Inc.
