10 WORKSHOP Effective Risk Communication for Public Health Emergencies and the Role of Social Media (Bali, Indonesia 3-4 June 2013) The objective of this workshop was to increase the effectiveness of internal communications among public health stakeholders and external communications with the general public before, during, and after public health emergencies. 26 June
11 METHODOLOGY Examined current risk communication plans Two case-studies: E. coli outbreak in Europe Japan s nuclear disaster following the earthquake and tsunami Developed recommendations Tested and refined the recommendations by using the ASEF-ASAP scenarios 26 June
12 What we didn t want: Already existing recommendations, e.g. - It is necessary to have an established presence in social media arena - Create an app to notify the public in case of an earthquake What we did want: - Plans to take existing ideas one step further - New approaches and ideas - Sharing of best practices 26 June
