1 Online Form Submission Title: No title provided Details: "Our entry into The Bays Precinct s Call for Great Ideas is Algae Energy The Future City Scape. The proposal responds to the objectives identied in the Call for Great Ideas document, thorough site analysis and the creative input of four University of New South Wales design students. Five key principles informed the design of Algae Energy': 1. A carbon positive precinct 2. A precinct that produces it s own energy, food and water 3. A world leading development that leads the world in renewable energy research, education and implementation 4. A destination at both a local and global scale 5. A world leading precinct in health and education Algae Energy combines the unique properties of Algae with cutting edge research and technology to create a self-sustaining, carbon positive precinct. Essentially Algae removes carbon dioxide and pollutants from the atmosphere and produces energy, water, biomass and biofuel. Water is re-used throughout the site with the existing silo building being adapted into a water storage, re-use and ltration center. The biomass produced is used as fertilizer for the organic vertical farms on site. The produce from these farms is then sold on site at the daily fresh produce markets. The White Bay Cruise Ship terminal building has been adapted to accommodate these bustling markets. This has been made possible due to the relocation of the cruise ships to Garden Island. Algae is integrated into every building proposed on site to maximize the amount of energy produced. Other site features include: A car-free precinct where light rail, walking and algae-powered bike s are the easy and convenient choice. Increased connectivity to the surrounding context through light rail connectivity, new ferry stops and improved integration at the White Bay to Balmain interface. A harbour beach with sweeping views towards the Harbour Bridge. A state of the art sports center. A function center on the tip of Glebe Island. Permaculture along the foreshore walk with supporting learning center for residents and visitors. Solar and wind energy production A world class sustainable energy The White Bay PowerStation is the heart of the precinct and is home to a world leading algae energy research center. In essence, Algae Energy demonstrates an innovative future city scape that responds to increased energy demand and the need for society to make more sustainable choices into the future."
