1 Common Core Standards Cross Referenced with Programming and Web Design Grades 9-12 PA Common Core Academic Standards for Reading in Science and Technical Subjects Craft and Structure CC F Analyze the author s purpose in providing an explanation, describing a procedure, or discussing an experiment in a text, defining the question the author seeks to address. Application Students will read an article online (desktoppub.about.com) on the principles of design, analyzing how to incorporate the steps into their own designs, interpreting terminology and ways to overcome unforeseen obstacles. Grades 9-12 PA Common Core Academic Standards for Writing in Science and Technical Subjects Text Types and Purposes CC B Introduce a topic and organize ideas, concepts, and information to make important connections and distinctions; include formatting, graphics, and multimedia when useful in aiding comprehension. CC B Introduce a topic and organize complex ideas, concepts, and information so that each new element builds on that which precedes it to create a unified whole; include formatting, graphics, and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension. Application Students will create and write a newsletter containing 5 articles including an autobiography, future plans, interview of classmate and two articles of their choice. TRANSFER TASK: Final Exam including MS Publisher use and design, scratch programming, web page creation and flash incorporation.

Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works. Essential Questions: How can my programming and web design skills be used to market a business I own for the purpose of lowering advertising expenses and implementing my marketing plan? How can my web design skills be used to secure an online presence that is confidential and critical to growing my business? Enduring Understandings: A 21 st century skill set can encourage a relationship with technology that positively influences life-long learning. Principles of Design must be considered in the creation of documents and websites MS Applications are effective vehicles for communicating information for both personal and professional uses.
