11 GU Literacy Intervention Classes- GEAR UP Literacy Intervention Teacher teaches 2 classes Afterschool GU Jump Start- Staff meets with students to review CCR activities (College prep presentations, Soft-skills focused presentations, college prep activities). These activities are focused on preparing students to be more successful in the transition from 8 th grade to the 9 th grade. 529 Plan Presentation- GU collaborated with the State Dept of Education in bringing in a representative to review the 529 Plan (a college savings option for parents) with parents. GU will include 8 th grade students in planning a visit to the Navajo Nation Legislative Offices in Window Rock, Arizona as well as a trip to Santa Fe to visit the Legislative offices at the state of NM.

12 4 Year College Applications Completed-309 Students Accepted to 4 Year College- 35 Scholarships Submitted- 27 Received Scholarships-9 Students will continue to pursue scholarships, and college applications.

Lewis, Dine, San Juan, Southwest Poly-Technical Institute and Brown-Mackey College, Navajo Technical University Workshops-Free Application for Federal Student Aid, Senior Nights, College Presentations, College Family Night, College Application Work Session All Seniors will apply to a 4 Year College ACCUPLACER Testing

14 Princeton Review ACT test prep- GEAR UP has worked with the district in purchasing the Princeton Review ACT test Prep Student Success activities- GEAR UP presently has afterschool tutoring and Saturday school at Shiprock High School. GEAR UP also purchased a FOCUS-IGNITION Peer Mentoring Program. GEAR UP will pay for students to attend a week long summer camp at UNM 56% of Seniors took ACT vs.32% last school year Composite Score for SHS 19 vs. 16.4% last school year $400,000 Scholarships for % of all Seniors applied to a 4 year College

Books are distributed to students
