If we ve done our due diligence and we are confident we have you ll probably notice that the lawyers names you recognize are the same lawyers that you and your peers associate with excellence in practice. You might even find your own name. So how did all of these lawyers make our listing? The first thing to know is selection is not based simply on nominations. While we do invite lawyers to participate by nominating their peers, that s just a part of the selection process as you ll see in the four unique steps below. Take a close look at our list. Do you think there are notable lawyers that we ve missed? If so, nominations for next year are now open. Your involvement in our process is critical to us who better to observe your peers than you? We recognize that no system is foolproof. That s why we ve built safeguards to ensure that large firms don t dominate our list, for example, and to detect manipulations like orchestrated nominations. EVALUATION OF THE CANDIDATE POOL Our researchers evaluate candidates by 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Research evaluations are based on information from a variety of online and database sources including law firm websites, legal publications and information supplied to us by lawyers at my.superlawyers.com. PEER EVALUATION BY PRACTICE AREA Candidates are grouped according to their primary practice areas. Candidates in each practice area who received the highest point totals in the steps above are asked to serve on a review panel. FINAL SELECTION Candidates are grouped into categories based on firm size. The attorneys with the highest totals from each category are selected. Thus, lawyers are grouped with other lawyers of comparable firm size.
