2 About the Programme Introduction When both business leaders and HR professionals have a common understanding of best contemporary HR practices, they can collaborate to define and implement policies and practices that are suitably adapted to changing economic demands and support the financial success of the organization. With the present fierce business competition, it is imperative for organizations to adjust their internal work processes so as to promote creative innovations in order to quickly re-position and maintain its competitive edge in the marketplace. Contemporary human resource management practices are rapidly moving away from the traditional perspectives. In the past, companies have not been disposed to human resource management, but to personnel management, which just included administrative practices regarding their employees. Companies, today, are aware of the fact that human resources have a strong and positive impact on financial and productivity performance of successful organizations. Some of the Salient trends posing a challenge for Human Resource Practice in the contemporary Business Environment are : The Increasing War for Talent In the present business environment, one of the most important corporate resources will be talent. The war for acquiring and retaining talent is always fierce, and is likely to become more so with increased competition. Traditional workforce planning is being replaced by talent strategies and skills gap analysis. Outsourcing of HR Functions

3 Organizational expectations of their senior HR people have changed significantly. The primary benefit of HR outsourcing is that it allows the senior HR functionaries to focus on more strategic and critical HR issues rather than on traditional HR functions. The Work-Life Balance There is growing recognition that there is a definite link between the work environment and the health and well-being of its employees. Further, employers are now recognizing the connection between employee health and the bottom line. The Diversity of Workforce India is made up of people of varied ethnicity, religion, culture, language and beliefs. Diversity is a business strategy. This is desirable because an organization with a broad variety of people with a diverse range of perspectives is better equipped to do business with a variety of people, to solve a variety of problems and to take a variety of decisions. The Impact of Technology Technology is going to eliminate most HR jobs as they exist today. HR professionals need to become more strategic. Technology will continue to impact us greatly, both in our personal lives and in the workplace, and it will continue to evolve. Managing Talent The two important aspects of managing talent is Leadership Development and Succession Planning. The challenge for HR professionals is to find talented, visionary people with a passion for the future. There is a need to anticipate skills required in the future. Corporate Ethics and Values Presently, more and more firms are emphasising on ethical behaviour. Ethical behaviour should be a core component of an organization s culture in order to survive in the present competitive environment.

4 Programme Objectives The programme aims at giving the participants first-hand exposure to contemporary HR trends and practices in industry. This will reinforce as well as add value to the thoughts and concepts of the faculty members and enable them to effectively simulate real life situations in the classroom thus enhancing the learning experience of the students. Understand the emerging HR issues and challenges for achieving superior performance. With the exposure the faculty members will be able to effectively help in increasing the employability of the students and make them industry ready. Develop HR initiatives for sustained superior performance. Industry academia interactions will open prospects of collaborative research in the area of HRM.

5 Pedagogy & Resource Persons The training methodology will include Lectures, Group Discussions, Case Studies, Games & Simulation exercises. Resource persons include experts from premier B-Schools and Management Training institutes of the Region and Senior HR Managers. The participants will also be taken on a local industry tour for on-site interaction with HR functionaries. Programme Enrollment The following are the details for getting enrolled in the FDP : Who should attend Faculty members, researchers and administrators of institutes offering AICTE approved management programmes. Faculty members teaching management courses in other AICTE approved programmes (e.g. B.E., B.Tech. etc.)can also attend. Registration Details Date Venue Fee (Refundable) : A registration fee of Rs. 500/- should be paid in the form of Demand Draft in favour of Birla Institute of Technology payable at Ranchi. The same will be refunded after the completion of the programme. Fare : The outstation participants will be reimbursed to & fro rail fare as per AICTE rules. Accommodation : Shared accommodation will be provided to outstation participants.
