SDC Profile Salient Features Extends IHE RFD profile by defining the details for <RetrieveFormRequest> and <SubmitFormRequest> elements SDC Form Definition introduces a standardized set of attributes describing the semantics and syntax of a form design, to allow consistent rendering in various Health IT systems Provides a Schema that can be used to validate SDC Forms easily SDC Packages defines content of the self-serving packages that allows system to utilize form definition and accompanying mapping information, administrative information, and supplemental data to render the form without requiring any additional knowledge on how Form Manager/Form Processor may have created the form Provides guidance on other common modes of exchanging forms using HTML forms, URLs, etc.
SDC Profile Salient Features (Contd.) SDC Submission Data defines a uniform and standardized manner in which form data can be sent to Form Receiver/Form Archiver The Form Filler only need to send the relevant data, without having to submit the actual form, thus making the submission very light-weight Provides a Schema that can be used to validate SDC submitted data easily Form Filler can exchange data and interoperate with any SDC compliant Form Receiver/Form Archiver, even if they don t have any prior knowledge of the form itself Promotes interoperability across various domains through use of standardized forms and common data elements

IHE profiles: RFD & FP Retrieve Form for Data Capture (RFD) provides a method for gathering data within a user s current application to meet the requirements of an external system. RFD supports the retrieval of forms from a form source, display and completion of a form, and return of instance data from the display application to the source application. In addition, RFD provides a mechanism to amend data that was previously captured. IT Infrastructure Technical Framework, Volume 1 The Family Planning (FP) Profile describes the content and format to be used within the pre-population data part of the Retrieve Form Request transaction from the RFD Integration Profile. It is expected that the Form Filler and Form Manager will implement the RFD transaction as specified in the RFD, and this profile does not include any additional constraints or extensions on the RFD transactions.

Questions on the suite of Public Health profiles?
Research Profiles and White Papers Landen Bain, Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) Alana St. Clair, CDISC Learning Objective: Attendees will learn about a set of six IHE profiles that were codeveloped with CDISC, a Standards Development Organization in the medical research space which has worked with QRPH for a number of years. These profiles -- CRD, DSC, RPE, CRPC, DEX, RM comprise a body of work which CDISC calls Healthcare Link, the intent of which is to create all the capabilities needed for EHR-enabled research.
Profiles & Technical Frameworks Research Profiles Status Trial Implementation Clinical Research Document (CRD) Defines pre-population data for the clinical research use case of an IT Infrastructure (ITI) Retrieve Form for Data Capture (RFD) transaction Enables Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to provide useful data research systems such as Electronic Data Capture (EDC) and Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS) Use of CRD, in conjunction with RFD, greatly simplifies the data capture step of clinical research participation at healthcare sites Drug Safety Content (DSC) Defines the content to be used by a drug safety reporting use case in conjunction with RFD Impacts the EMR and the drug safety reporting system and, ultimately, the MedWatch system of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) DSC enables a healthcare provider to report a drug related adverse event from within an EMR session. This capability has been shown to increase the frequency with which physicians report drug related problems
Profiles & Technical Frameworks Clinical Research Document Process Flow
Profiles & Technical Frameworks QRPH: Retrieve Process for Execution (RPE) Status Trial Implementation RPE enables a healthcare provider to access a process definition, such as a research protocol, and to execute automated activities, without leaving an EMR session RPE impacts the EMR and systems hosted by quality, research and public health agencies which need to direct healthcare activities The benefits of RPE include greatly simplified workflow at healthcare sites that enact quality, research or public health activities Trial implementation status, with one year of testing performed
Profiles & Technical Frameworks Retrieve Process for Execution (RPE) actor and transaction diagram
Profiles & Technical Frameworks QRPH: Clinical Research Process Content (CRPC) Profile Status Trial Implementation Research protocols guide the conduct of trials. Many of the interventions and clinical activities pertaining to a study are performed within healthcare organizations and often involve integrated use of the clinical electronic health record system Protocols are complex and in order to appropriately handle the scheduling, ordering, and billing related to those protocols, the EHR must be able to communicate certain information with the systems that manage the study The existing IHE profile Retrieve Process for Execution (RPE) acts as a general framework providing messaging interactions, that could be used to convey the necessary information. The proposed research content profiles utilize RPE as a framework and solve the issues of exchanging detailed content specific to the research domain
Profiles & Technical Frameworks Clinical Research Process Content (CRPC) Use Case Time consuming instantiation of the same complex research protocol definition in multiple systems Study Orders Clinic and Ancillary Scheduling Integrated EMR Functionality Clinical Orders and Services Study Staff and Research Study Management System Study Staff and EMR Analyst(s) Health System Billing
Data Element Exchange (DEX) Status Trial Implementation EHRs contains data elements that can be used to populate research case report forms DEX leverages the power of an ISO/IEC Metadata Registry standard to apply mappings earlier in the process, at the point of form design DEX will create a customized map of the elements in a particular case report form to the corresponding elements in the EHR export. The metadata registry maintains the exact interactions between the research and healthcare data elements, and will provide an exact map by which data can be extracted from the pre-population data set
Data Element Exchange (DEX) DEX Actor Transaction Diagram DEX maps secondary use domain data to healthcare data elements RetrieveDataElementList [QRPH -43] Metadata Consumer RetrieveMetadata [QRPH -44] Metadata Source
Research Matching (RM) Status Trial Implementation RM specifies methods of matching patients and investigators with appropriate clinical research studies RM specifies a method for publishing research process definitions to interested EHR systems

2013 QRPH White Papers EHR-enabled Research White Paper Proposed and accepted for development in cycle. This white paper will integrate all research-related profiles into a consolidated profile that can be used to automate all aspects of clinical research that are related to the EHR. Consolidated Profile White Paper Discussion of the EHR-enable Research White Paper led to a more general approach: Consolidated Profile White Paper.
