At the same time, a sound legal and financial infrastructure is key to mitigate market failures and reduce the supply-demand gap in SME finance, driven by information asymmetry. This session will discuss barriers and challenges to enhancing bankability for SMEs, addressing credit guarantee systems, credit data infrastructure, secured lending, and innovative product design in the banking sector. However, nonbank financial instruments such as leasing and factoring have yet to be developed in the region. Meanwhile, some countries have pursued a trial and error for creating an equity financing venue for SMEs. This session will discuss constraints and success factors for developing the nonbank finance sector serving SMEs and market-based instruments for SMEs growth capital financing in Asia.
