Curves M QNT-001 The package QUINDOS Curves provides the tools to compute and evaluate 2D and 3D curves on coordinate measuring machines. For operations on curves and contours the following features are provided: o Probe radius correction even on 3D surfaces o 2D Best-fit of curves o Actual-nominal comparison o Interpolation and extrapolation o Smoothing of curves o Unwinding of curves o Differentiation and integration o Intersections of elements o Find global and local extreme values o Computation of normal directions o Connection of curve segments o Common fitting of several curve segments Points on nominal curves can be generated according to mathematical functions. Example: Generation of probing points on a scroll using the formula: X = sin( ) + k x tan(y) Y = 1 + cos k Best-fitting of two point sets or 3D curves. The transformation between them, as well as actual-nominal comparison of each pair of points can be calculated. This package includes a VDAFS interface to exchange data with CAD systems. This interface is used to describe point data of curves and has a sequential, readable format. VDAFS elements can be converted into QUINDOS elements for further processing. 3
2D Gauging and Constant Velocity Joints - CVJ M QNT-001 2D Gauging This packages provides several best-fit programs for a variety of applications. One of them is the 2D best-fit of hole patterns, with or without datums, resp. the best fit of centerpoints of elements. The number of holes is not limited, and up to 2 datums can be considered for the best-fit. The best-fit minimizes the distance of the measured hole to the circle enveloping the nominal position. The diameter of the enveloping circle is determined by the positional tolerance, plus any MMC on the hole. The position of the hole pattern before and after fitting is plotted. Constant Velocity Joints (CVJ) When inspecting gothic and elliptical profiles or homo-kinetic joints (also called Constant Velocity Joints CVJ) on a coordinate measuring machine, the option QUINDOS 2D Gauging and Constant Velocity Joints - CVJ can be used to find the center coordinates and contact points of a nominal circle, which is 'centered' in the measured profile. Furthermore the maximum clearance between circle and profile is evaluated. If the CVJ parameters are provided by a CAD system, there is no need for individual programming of the CVJs. QUINDOS generates the CNC measuring program for any Constant Velocity Joint automatically from the CAD file. For the inspection of Constant Velocity Joints a special stylus system is available. 4
Statistics M QNT-001 Particularly in mass production the measuring results have to be analyzed by statistics. The package QUINDOS Statistics allows the operator to do such evaluations on-line, supported by an interactive graphical user interface. All evaluations relevant to production process control, such as computing of statistical values like mean value, standard deviation, cpk etc., as well as confidence levels, histograms, handling of outliers and statistic charts are provided. Furthermore the package includes: o various distribution tests o machine capability analysis o trend analysis o and the computation of quality control charts. All evaluations are activated by simple mouse clicks. In case the measuring data shall be computed by other statistical software, the relevant data can be converted and exported in following formats: 2. QSSTAT from QDAS GmbH, Germany 3. FORD data format guidelines," old" and "new" version, for further processing in QSSTAT. 4. CIMMY / QSWE and MESAS -Format 5. Montaplast, Germany 6. Excello, Germany Further data formats can be integrated on request. 5
Measurement of Parts on Pallets M QNT-001 With the option "Measurement of Part Pallets" any number of parts can be mounted on a fixture and automatically inspected in one set up on a 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The parts can be of the same or of different type. The order of the measurements can be chosen freely. With QUINDOS even complex geometries such as Spiral Bevel Gears, Screw Compressors or Hob Cutters can be inspected on a measuring machine without a rotary table and can therefore be mounted and measured on a pallet. Fixtures and pallets according to customer specifications can be provided by Hexagon Metrology GmbH. By utilizing the CNC measuring machine during manless shifts the CMM throughput and efficiency can be drastically increased. This leads to a significant reduction in inspection costs. 6
Feature Based Inspection M QNT-001 The QUINDOS option "Feature Based Inspection" allows the CMM operator to select features (diameters, true positions etc.) in any order out of a Master program, which contains all features, by simply clicking icons on the screen. QUINDOS knows automatically what to measure, in which order, to arrive at the required result. Only the selected features are calculated and evaluated. The shortest travel path for the coordinate measuring machine between the individual features is computed, ensuring maximum machine utilization and significant cost savings in a very short time. This package is useful for the inspection of complex parts, such as cylinder heads or engine blocks. In particular if the same component has to be measured at different tooling steps. Advantages of Feature Based Inspection: o Only one Master program needs to be maintained. From this CNC-run all sub programs will be automatically generated. o Comparable measuring results, because the same nominal points and probing strategies are used (this is particularly important if results from purchaser and supplier must be compared). An essential requirement for ISO 9000! o No long trainings, CMM operators are just introduced to the job o Control of CNC-runs through SPC systems o Significantly increased throughput of the CMM due reduced programming time Existing QUINDOS programs can be transformed into feature based programs. 7
GEAR New: Since September 2004 the algorithms are certified by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) of Germany. M QNT-001 The option QUINDOS Gear extends the capability of a high precision Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machine, enabling it to measure parts usually inspected on gear testers. Measurement of Helical Gears The moving path, probing points and scan lines for the measuring machine are automatically generated by QUINDOS according to the nominal gear parameters (No of teeth, module etc.). Pitch and runout can be measured by self-centering, scanning or single point probing. The quality class of the gear is determined based on the DIN, ISO, JIS, AGMA or CNOMO quality charts. The individual pitch error can be evaluated as well as the cumulative pitch error, with or without eccentricity. In contrast to conventional gear testers, a Leitz coordinate measuring machine with QUINDOS software does not require a rotary table for the measurement of gears This means: o higher accuracy (only 3 axes instead of 4) o significantly higher throughput and CMM utilization using pallet measurement o easy set up, no centering required o significantly reduced inspection costs The QUINDOS Gear package allows individual modifications of the profile and the flank line, using radii, straights, polynominals and parabolas or a combination of it. Various evaluation formats can be selected so the results can be compared with those of conventional gear testers. Measurement of Serrated Gears Included in this package is the measurement of Serrated Gears, both internal and external, with straight and involute profile, according to DIN The gearing can be evaluated with and without eccentricity. Measurement of Involute Splines Involute Splines according DIN 5482 resp. ANSI can also be measured and evaluated high precision 3D measuring machine with the QUINDOS Gear package. Measurement of Clutch Gears Note: For the evaluation of clutch gears also QUINDOS Curves is required. Leitz Gear measuring Technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! Tel: Fax: contact@leitz-metrology.com 8
Unknown Gear M QNT-001 The package QUINDOS Unknown Gear can be used to determine the parameters of an unknown spur or helical gear using a precision coordinate measuring machine, which can be turned into a gear tester with QUINDOS software. By measuring a single gear tooth, all the relevant parameters, such as normal module, number of teeth, pressure angle, helix angle, addendum modification factor etc. can be calculated. A feature, which is even not available at most gear tester. Applications: Re-manufacture of broken gears with unknown parameters. The following types of gear can be evaluated: o Gears and gear segments according to DIN, ISO, JIS or AGMA standards o Cylindrical gears, straight or helical, internal and external Leitz gear measuring technology: Turns a CMM into a gear tester! 9
GEAR GAUGES M QNT-001 The package "Gear Gauges" is used to calibrate involute and lead masters on ultra high precision coordinate measuring machines. Typical users of this option are governmental calibration laboratories (PTB in Germany, NIST in USA, CSIRO in Australia, NPL in UK and others) and the quality assurance departments of large companies. The purpose of this option is the calibration of gear gages used for the qualification/testing of gear testers. Therefore, only 3D measuring machines of the highest accuracy, such as the PMM-C 700 P, can be used with this option. Leitz gear measurement technology: fast, precise and costefficient! 10
Straight Bevel Gear M QNT-001 Measurement of straight bevel gears according to DIN 3965, part 1 and 2. With this QUINDOS package the measurement of straight bevel gears can be done on a precision 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine without a rotary table. Therefore many of such parts can be mounted on a pallet and measured without the supervision by an operator. Due to this a 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipped with QUINDOS Straight Bevel Gear software can achieve a much higher throughput than a conventional gear inspection system. Internal straight bevel gears, e.g. dies, moulds or electrodes can also be inspected. The following features are included: o Automatic generation of the moving path and probing points for the 3D coordinate measuring machine. o Generation of a point grid on the master flank using the gear parameters. o Inspection of the flank topography with various evaluation methods. o Runout and pitch o Profile and flank deviations. o Establishing a new coordinate system by best-fitting the actual flank to the nominal flank. o Calculation of the cone apex position. o Establishing the optimum assembly position Leitz gear inspection systems: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 11
Spiral Bevel Gear Measurement of Spiral Bevel Gears and Crown Gears M QNT-001 With this QUINDOS option spiral bevel gears and pinions from all leading manufacturers (e.g. Gleason, Klingelnberg, Oerlikon and others) can be measured and evaluated on 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). The main features of this package are: o Generation of the nominal flank form by : 1. Measuring a master gear or flank 2. Loading nominal flank points from a file o Automatic generation of the moving path and probing points for the CMM. The number of probing points can be selected by the operator. o Actual-Nominal comparison of the flank topography with different fitting methods. o Evaluation of profile angle and spiral angle errors o Evaluation of pitch, runout and tooth thickness o Determination of the gear quality class based on DIN 3965, AGMA a, Rev or ANSI/AGMA 2009-A98 Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines with QUINDOS software, can measure any kind of gear or gear cutting tool without a rotary table. Thus enabling the measurement of many spiral bevel gears fixed on pallets, reducing inspection costs significantly compared to conventional gear measuring machines. The package also provides interfaces to the GAGE 4/WIN software from GLEASON Works, USA, and to the "Bevel-Gear- Chain" from University of Aachen, Germany. Furthermore gear data can be imported/exported in VDAFS - KEGMES format. Included in this package is the measurement and evaluation of Crown Gears. With QUINDOS software precision 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines can be converted into high throughput gear measuring machines. A very costeffective way to upgrade your quality control system. Leitz gear measuring technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 12
Gleason Gage 4/WIN M QNT-XXX Optimizing the production process of spiral bevel gears with GLEASON gear grinding machines The GAGE 4/WIN software from GLEASON WORKS, USA, computes probing points of a bevel gear flank using the Basic Settings of the GLEASON gear grinding machine. These nominal data are then transferred to QUINDOS and the spiral bevel gear can be measured on a coordinate measuring machine. The measured data are returned to GAGE 4/WIN, which computes new Basic Settings for the GLEASON bevel gear cutting machine. Through this process the gear quality can be optimized. GAGE 4/WIN is a product of THE GLEASON WORKS, Rochester, USA and runs on a separate Pentium PC. Therefore this software is independent from the CMMs computer configuration and from the operating system of QUINDOS. Installation and training of GAGE 4/WIN is under the responsibility of GLEASON engineers. In order to run this package with QUINDOS, the option "QUINDOS Spiral Bevel Gear" is required. Leitz gear measuring technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 13
Hob Cutter M QNT-001 QUINDOS Hob Cutter turns Precision Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines into Gear Inspection Systems Inspection and evaluation of a hob cutter, as defined in DIN 3968 on a Leitz high precision 3D coordinate measuring machine. Additionally to DIN, the axial pitch and the tooth height for topping hobs can be evaluated. All measurements can be done on single and multi start hobs. The flutes can be straight or helical. QUINDOS Hob Cutter is very easy to use: After entering the hob parameters, the moving path, probing points and scan lines for the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) are generated automatically. Any vertically mounted hob cutter can be inspected on a Leitz CMM with a 6 probe cluster. Therefore a rotary table is not required for the measurement of hob cutters, i.e. many hobs can be mounted on one fixture and measured in one go. As a result, Leitz high precision CMMs with QUINDOS provide a much higher throughput and therefore significantly lower inspection costs compared to conventional bevel gear inspection systems. Due to the tight tolerances of hob cutters, only high precision Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM s) with very small probing error (P < 1µm accorrding to ISO ) and continous scanning capability should be used for such measurements. Leitz gear inspection technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient 14
Shaper Cutter On request M QNT-001 Inspection of shaper cutters on Leitz high precision coordinate measuring machines and gear inspection systems. Measurement of spur and helical shaper cutters according to DIN 1829 on Leitz high precision coordinate measuring machines and gear inspection systems. The cutting face can be conical or steped. Among others this QUINDOS package evaluates: o o o o o o o Axial runout of the cutting edge Radial runout Tooth thickness Angles at the cutting edge Pitch Profile Helix QUINDOS Shaper Cutter on a CMM is as easy to operate as a dedicated gear inspection system: The moving path of the Coordinate Measuring Machine with all probing points as well as scanlines is generated automatically. All shaper measurements on a Leitz CMM are executed using a star-shaped probe cluster. A rotary table is not required for the inspection of such cutters. Therefore various shaper cutters can be mounted and inspected automatically on pallets. Thus providing a much higher throughput compared to conventional gear inspection systems. Due to the tight tolerances of Shaper cutters, only high precision Coordinate Measuring Machines with a very small probing error P and continuous scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM- C 700 P) should be used for such measurements. Gear inspection systems by Leitz: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 15
Shaving Gear M QNT-001 Inspection of shaving gears on a Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machine or on a Gear Checker. The option QUINDOS Shaving Gear provides the tools for the inspection of shaving cutters on high precision Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) or a Gear Checker. The inspection of shaving gears with QUINDOS is as easy as the measurement of normal gears: after entering the shaver parameters, the travel path of the CMM as well as all probings and scan lines required for the inspection are generated automatically. Shaving gears can be measured on a Leitz 3D Measuring Machine by using a star probe configuration, similar to the inspection of normal gears. With QUINDOS there is no rotary table required for such measurements and therefore several shavers can be mounted on a pallet and measured in on go. This leads to a tremendously increased throughput compared to a conventional gear checker. Features of a shaver cutter, which can be evaluated, are: o Helix o Profile o Pitch o Runout o Corrections Due to the tight tolerances of Shaving gears, only high precision Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM s) with a very small probing error P and continuous scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM-C 700 P) should be used for such measurements. Leitz gear measuring technology turns your CMM into a high performance gear checker! 16
Broach M QNT-001 Inspection of Broaches on a Leitz high precision Coordinate Measuring Machine or a Gear Inspection System. Measurement of broaches and broach shells, used in the manufacture of internal gears, on a Leitz high precision coordinate measuring machine or a gear inspection system. Broach shells with ring type spaces as well as helical chip spaces can be inspected with the option QUINDOS Broach. The gearing may be straight or helical with left hand or right hand lead. Tools for hard broaching with negative face angles can also be inspected. Among others, the following features are evaluated: o Lead deviation of chip spaces o Axial runout of cutting face o Pitch of the chip spaces o Stepping of profile over length o Transverse pitch in finishing area o Dimension over balls o Face angle in normal plane o Back off angles at different diameters o Transverse tooth profile o Form of tooth tip The measurement of broaches with QUINDOS software is as easy as the measurement of normal gears: after entering the broach parameters the travel path of the CMM as well as all probings and scan lines required for the inspection are generated automatically. The measurement is done using a star probe cluster with 30º inclination (Order-No.: M ). A rotary table is not required. Inspection of several broaches fixed on pallets is therefore possible, which leads to a tremendous increase of throughput compared to a conventional gear inspection system. Due to the tight tolerances of broaches, only high precision Coordinate Measuring Machines with a very small probing error P and continuous scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM-C) should be used for such measurements. Leitz gear inspection technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 17
Cylindrical Worm M QNT-001 Measurement of cylindrical worms on a CMM or a gear measuring machine. Cylindrical worms of the type ZA, ZI, ZN, ZK and ZC (see DIN 3965) can be inspected on a precision 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine with the option QUINDOS Cylindrical Worm. The worms might have single or multiple starts, with left or right hand leads. The inspection of worms on a CMM equipped with QUINDOS software can be done in vertical as well as in horizontal position, without a rotary table. A significant advantage when measuring long worms, compared to a normal gear measuring machine using a rotary table. The following features can be evaluated: o The lead at any diameter o The axial profile at any position o The axial pitch o The runout for a given sphere diameter o The tooth thickness at the reference diameter or at any given distance. o Dimension over balls (pins) o Topography (flank form) Measurement of a Cylindrical Worm with a CMM and QUINDOS is as easy as with a dedicated gear measuring machine: after entering the worm parameters, QUINDOS generates automatically the moving path and all required probing points and scan lines, including start and stop points and probe changes for the Three Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Due to the usually tight tolerances of Worms, only high precision CMMs with a small probing error P and scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM-C) should be used for such measurements. Leitz gear measuring technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 18
Worm Wheel M QNT-001 Inspection of worm wheels for cylindrical worms on CMMs. Inspection and evaluation of worm wheels (worm gears) for cylindrical worms on precision Three Coordinate Measuring Machines. The cylindrical worm can be of generation type ZA, ZI, ZN, ZK and ZC (see DIN 3965). The geometry of the wheel is considered as a conjugate gear to the worm. This is a unique feature not offered by any other worm wheel inspection system. Others usually just measure one tooth of the worm wheel as a master. Besides other evaluations, the package can also best-fit the axial position of the wheel in order to find the optimum mesh position. Evaluations include: o Pitch in the mean plane o Tooth thickness o Runout o Dimension over balls o Profile o Flank o Topography o Axial best-fit with displacement The package QUINDOS Worm Wheel generates automatically the moving path and all required probing points and scan lines, including start and stop points and probe changes, for the 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine. For the measurement of worm wheels on a Leitz CMM with QUINDOS a rotary table is not required, i.e. several wheels can be mounted and measured on a pallet. This leads to a tremendous increase in throughput compared to a conventional gear tester. Due to the usually tight tolerances of worm wheels, only 3D Measuring Machines with a small probing error P and scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM-C) should be used for such measurements. Leitz worm wheel inspection technology: fast, precise, unmatched! Tel: Fax: contact@leitz-metrology.com 19
Globoid Worm M QNT-001 Measurement of Globoid (double enveloping) Worms on a Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machine. The tooth flanks of this type of worm are manufactured by an inclined rotating plane (grinding wheel) or by a straight sided skinning cutter. QUINDOS Globoid Worm provides the tools for the measurement of such globoid (double enveloping) worms on a 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The worm can have single or multiple start, with both left and right hand lead. o Easy operation due to automatic generation of the CMMs moving path and all required probing points and scan lines, including probe changes. o With QUINDOS software Globoid Worms can be measured in vertical as well as in horizontal position. A clear advantage when it comes to large, long worms. o A rotary table is not required. Therefore several globoid worms can be mounted on a pallet and measured in one go. This results in a much higher throughput compared to a conventional worm or gear measuring machine. o The evaluations are similar to those of a cylindrical worm. Due to the usually tight tolerances of globoid worms, only high precision Three Coordinate Measuring Machines with a small probing error P and scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM-C) should be used for such measurements. Leitz Globoid (double enveloping) Worm Measurement Technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 20

Leitz Turbine Blade and Air Foil measuring technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 21
Thread / API M QNT-001 Inspection of Threads / API Threads on a 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine. With the option QUINDOS Thread / API single start, multiple start, internal and external threads can be measured on a Coordinate Measuring Machine. After entering the thread parameters, the moving path for the 3D Measuring Machine as well as the probing points are generated automatically. The inspection of following types of threads are included in this package: o Metric, ISO, Pipe, Trapeze, Saw tooth and Whitworth pipe threads according DIN 2999 and DIN 3858 o API-Thread Gauges (American Petroleum Institute) With QUINDOS software a rotary table is not required for the measurement of threads. Therefore threads can be measured more accurately and several parts can be measured on a pallet during unmanned shifts. A clear advantage compared to conventional ways of inspection of threads. Leitz Threads / API Threads Inspection Technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 22
Camshafts MTW-110-CSH-001 Measurement of Cams and Camshafts on a Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machine or with a Camshaft Inspection System. The option QUINDOS Camshaft is used to measure, calculate and evaluate cams and camshafts on a precision coordinate measuring machine or a dedicated camshaft tester. The inspection of camshafts with QUINDOS is now easier than ever: after entering the camshaft parameters from the drawing, the travel path of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) as well as all probings and scan lines required for the inspection are generated automatically. The nominal data must be provided as "angle over stroke". The program evaluates the following features: o Cam base circle o Stroke for various followers o Stroke of a translatory follower (Barrel-follower) o Speed and acceleration of the follower o Error step (max. error variation) within a defined range o Cam angle With a Leitz CMM and QUINDOS software a rotary table is not required for the inspection of camshafts, i.e. many camshafts can be fixed and measured on a pallet. This means a drastically increased throughput compared to a conventional camshaft tester resp. single purpose camshaft measuring machines. Leitz Camshaft Measuring Systems: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 23
Complementary Cams M QNT-001 Measurement and evaluation of pairs of complementary cams. For the inspection of such cams a coordinate measuring machine with "continuous scanning" capability is recommended. The package QUINDOS Complementary Cams provides the following features: o Creation of complementary cams / complementary roller paths o Calculation of the complementarity errors of a pair of cams, i.e. - actual angle between the two pivoting cams - rotating angle of the cam - actual angle of the master cam - radial direction of the rotation angle o Optimization of a given parameter in a complementary cam system in order to minimize the complementarity error. Leitz complementary cam inspection technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 24
Valve Guides and Seats M QNT-001 Automatic measurement of Valve Guides and Valve Seats with a Leitz 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine. Automatic inspection and evaluation of valve guides and seats found in combustion engines. The valve seats must have at least 2 cone angles. This option requires a Three Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) with a measuring (linear) probe system (not for triggered probe systems such as Renishaw etc.) and continuous scanning capability. After the operator has entered the valve guide and seat parameters from the drawing, the moving path of the CMM, the probing points and the scan lines required are generated automatically. Critical features such as the cone angles (on a short cone base) and the seat position in relation to the guide are evaluated with maximum repeatability. Several valve-specific plots to visualize the measuring results are part of this package. Leitz valve seat measuring technology: fast, precise and costefficient! 25
Ovality of Pistons M QNT-001 Inspection of the Ovality of Pistons of Internal Combustion Engines. Pistons of internal combustion engines are manufactured with either single, double or triple ovality. The QUINDOS option Ovality of Pistons is used to inspect and evaluate those ovalities with a precision 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The ovality of a piston is described according to one of the following formulas: Single ovality (Circle with double sine overlay) r( ) = Radius - (Ovality/2) x sin( - o)² Double ovality (Single ovality with a quadruple sine overlay ) r( ) = Radius - (Ovality/2) x sin( - o)²-overlay x sin( 2( - 1))² Triple ovality (Double ovality with a sixfold sine overlay) r( ) = Radius - (Ovality/2 +Overlay/2) x Sin( - o)²- (Overlay/2) x sin( 3( - 1))² For the inspection of the ovality of a piston a 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine with continuous scanning capability is required. The measurement is done without a rotary table, therefore pistons can be mounted on a pallet and measured with maximum throughput in one go. Leitz measuring technology for ovality of pistons: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 26
Screw Compressor M QNT-001 Measurement of Screw Rotors on Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines. The package QUINDOS Screw Compressor enables the measurement of rotors of screw compressors on high precision 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines. The measurement can be done with the rotors mounted in horizontal as well as in vertical position. A significant advantage compared to single purpose screw rotor inspection systems! The package includes the following features: o Generation of nominal data and normal vectors for profile sections o Transformation from axial to transverse sections, and back o 3D radius correction o Actual-nominal comparison of the profiles o Best fitting of the profiles o Evaluation of the pitch, lead and the lead deviation along the length of the rotor o Pairing simulation of male and female rotors, with calculation of the gap With Leitz QUINDOS a rotary table is not required, i.e. various rotors as well as housings can be placed on a fixture and measured in one go. This results in a dramatic increase in throughput and therefore significant lower inspection cost per part compared to conventional gear or rotor measuring systems. 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines used for the inspection of screw compressors should have a probe head with High-Speed-Scanning capability and a small scanning probing error THP. Leitz screw compressor / screw rotor measuring technology: fast, precise and cost-efficient! 27
Step Gear / Roller Gear M QNT-001 Inspection of Step Gears / Roller Gears with Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines. The package QUINDOS Step Gear is used to inspect the shape and functionality of step gears (roller gears) on precision Coordinate Measuring Machines. The step gear can have a cylindrical or a globoid carrier. Out of the transmission law, i.e. the relationship between the rotation angle of the carrier and the movement of the roller axis, QUINDOS can calculate the surface points with normal directions. QUINDOS Step Gear includes: o Generation of nominal surface points out of the transmission law o Deviations perpendicular to the surface o Deviations of transmission law o Slot width (clearance) o Contact pattern analysis o Axial best fit Due to the usually tight tolerances of roller gears, only precision Coordinate Measuring Machines with small probing errors P and THP (according to ISO 10360) and High-Speed-Scanning capability (i.e. Leitz PMM-C or Leitz Reference) should be used for such measurements. With Leitz QUINDOS the inspection of step gears (roller gears) can be done on measuring machines without a rotary table. This means the step gears can be mounted on a pallet and measured with maximum throughput and efficiency. Leitz step gear / roller gear measuring technology: unmatched in the world! 28
Digital I/O Interface M QNT-001 Support of a digital I/O Interface. This package supports a digital I/O-interface. The interface (Siemens SPS, Type AG 95U or AG115U with communications processor CP 521 SI or CP 524) is connected to the QUINDOS computer by a serial interface. Up to 16 in- and output channels are supported, which can be addressed by bit numbers Several external devices can be controlled, such as: o Fixtures o o o Door locks Light signals Automatic transport devices o Robots as well as conventional programmable controls. This option is required, if a Coordinate Measuring Machine is to be integrated into any kind of automated part transport system. Note: This package might require special hardware, depending on the customer requirements. The Siemens hardware and it's programming is not included in this option. 29
Automatic Gauge Inspection M QNT-001 With the option "Automatic Gauge Inspection" workshop gauges as well as reference gauges can be inspected on a ultra high precision 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine The certification is in accordance with VDI/VDE/DGQ 2618 and is valid for following types of gauges: o Plug gauges (one-sided / two-sided) o Snap gauges o Go and No Go ring gauges and master gauges Further gauge types can be implemented on request. All results can be transferred via a user defined ASCII interface to an inspection tools administration system. This option should only be used in connection with a coordinate measuring machine of the highest accuracy, for example a Leitz PMM-C 700 P. The patented clamping system for a variety of gauges from Hexagon Metrology GmbH is required to use this option. It can be individually adapted to suit other applications. 30
CMM Test with a Ball Plate M QNT-001 Evaluation of the Measuring Error of a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) by means of a Ball Plate. With this package the measuring error of a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) can be checked in regular intervals by using a calibrated ball plate. The program was developed according to the guidelines specified by the German working group "Überwachung von Dreikoordinatenmessgeräten mit Kugelplatte" and is certified by the PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt - national bureau of standards) in Germany. The procedure and evaluations are according to VDI/VDE 2617, page 5. The program consists of three parts: 1. Test of the probing system, using a ring gauge and a reference sphere. The result of this test is the probing uncertainty and the repeatability of the probe system of the CMM. 2. Measuring and evaluating a ball plate. This test evaluates the geometric deviations of the 3D Measuring Machine. 3. Graphic and numeric output of the measurement results according to the VDI/VDE 2617 guideline, page 5. Note: The option QUINDOS CMM Test with Ball Plate requires a calibrated ball plate. 31
CMM Error Simulation MTW-110-PES-001 Simulation of the Measuring Error of 3D Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). The measuring errors of a Three Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) are described in the ISO standard : "Performance of coordinate measuring machines". Usually the two most important specifications: the "Volumetric length measuring error E" and the "Volumetric probing error P" are specified by the CMM manufacturer. These errors are valid for clearly defined test procedures only. At the inspection of real parts the errors are different. That is because often probe extensions are used with an increased measuring error. Furthermore the probing error at a datum measurement can lead to a much larger error on a feature a certain distance away from that datum. The package QUINDOS CMM Error Simulation calculates the actual range of error for each feature. An existing QUINDOS part program is executed n-times, with the "real" CMM switched off. At every run the virtual CMM generates measuring points, distributed around the nominal points. The range of those points depends on the P value entered. QUINDOS takes this points as if they would come from a real Measuring Machine and calculates all the features. Finally the range of the result for each feature is evaluated statistically. Example: Comparison of the measuring error of 2 coordinate measuring machines Range of concentricity result, 50 virtual measuring runs CMM A: Probing Error P = 1µm CMM B: Probing Error P = 3µm By repeating the procedure, using P-values of different CMMs, the operator can analyse which CMM is capable of inspecting a certain workpiece. Furthermore the effects on modifications of the measuring strategy (i.e. using shorter extensions, increase the number of probing points at critical datums etc.) can immediately be evaluated. 32
Offline Programming M QNT-001 This license allows to work off-line with QUINDOS on a second PC. Programming of parts, statistical evaluations, writing of plot programs etc. on a separate PC without interrupting measurements on the Coordinate Measuring Machine. Note: The user needs to have minimum 1 Online license of QUINDOS. The PC is not included in this license. 33
