3 instrumental tuition Parental Direct Payment Scheme The Parental Direct Payment Scheme allows parents to purchase instrumental tuition that is delivered through school but invoiced directly to parents by the Music Service. Learning music helps children from an early age to improve their: Reading ability Ability in maths, science and engineering Speech-fluency in native and foreign languages Team working and social skills Memorising capacity Reasoning capacity Why play a musical instrument? Time management skills Learning ability Problem solving ability Ability to handle performance (stress) Artistic ability and neatness These skills give children advantages later in life, providing them with the very abilities that employers are seeking. (The fourth R Music Education Council) Parental Direct Payment Scheme Having the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument and to play and perform with others is known to improve self-esteem, self-confidence and social skills, leading to a positive attitude to schooling and improved standards in music and the wider curriculum. (Ofsted) It s Fun! There s a special kind of joy that s created through playing, writing music and sharing that joy with others through performance. It s for everyone! There are many kinds of music to enjoy. People from every background and culture can play music together. Music brings us together and gives us something in common. It s a way of expressing yourself! Being able to change the way people feel through music is one of the things that makes it a special subject to study. It s a social activity Through group rehearsals students meet new people and learn about their passion for music. Sharing unique views through music often leads to strong friendships. How does the PDP scheme work? Lessons are delivered in small groups of up to four. A minimum of 20 minutes per session is guaranteed. Some pupils may find that they respond well to individual tuition and we are now able to offer 20 or 30 minute instrumental lessons in schools. We aim to deliver 34 lessons a year. Children will need to provide their own instrument which can be leased/purchased from Music Cellar HW Audio Rimmers Music or on a rental basis from Lancashire Music Service. Invoices are sent at the start of each term to parents and payment is due upon receipt of the invoice from County Hall. Once your contract and first payment has been received, your child will be enrolled for the remainder of the academic year. If you wish to withdraw your child, you must follow the cancellation procedure. When pupil numbers become non-viable in a group lesson, LMS reserves the right to cancel tuition giving a ½ terms notice. Group and Individual lessons are available in Woodwind, Brass, Strings, Guitar, Voice, Keyboard, Ukulele, and Drums (Piano is only available as an individual lesson) Each lesson is supported by our fabulous e-learning website: and students can use the content to view and use whenever and wherever they wish!
