2 Drives Start-up Center program Your customers know they have the right equipment and you have the right tools when you are trained through the Schneider Electric Drives Start-up training program. The Drives Start-up Center (DSC) program helps Square D distributors, control panel builders and electrical and mechanical contractors to become qualified to perform Drives Start-up for HVAC applications in their local area.

This allows them to provide competitively priced, timely start-up services to the HVAC market for the following drives: Altivar 21 Altivar 31 Altivar 61 S-Flex E-Flex M-Flex To become a qualified distributor or service provider and attend a Drives Start-up training class you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of motor control and pass a basic online test. Class tuition is per student, however, Square D offers several programs to offset the cost, including distributor co-op dollars and MSP sponsored programs. Open enrollment classes will be offered at various locations and times driven by the registration roster. If a company has 12 or more participants and/or desires a private seminar they can submit a request for on-site training to the DSC coordinator (drivesstartup@us.schneider-electric.com). Testing will be conducted online at the participant s convenience. Upon successful completion of testing the participant will be issued a certificate of completion and can begin performing start-ups. 4 Drives Start-Up Center program Frequently Asked Questions Q1. Where do I go for more information on this DSC program? A1. Details can be found on our web site at Q2. Is there more than one type of membership? A2. Yes, there are two levels of membership that you can apply for. If you enter the DSC program under Level 1, you may upgrade your status at any point to Level 2 just by executing our liability agreement. Level 1 Factory Trained program is for anyone who has taken the Drives Start-up training course (AUTi215), through Square D s training department and passed the test. Level 2 Certified program is for anyone who completed Level 1 and wishes to upgrade their status by signing our liability agreement. (This document can be downloaded from our web site under program requirements.) Q3. Who can take the course? A3. The Drives Start-up course (AUTi215) is for distributors, customers, system integrators, control panel builders and thirdparty contractors for HVAC and pump applications with a basic knowledge of drives, as specified in the pre-class materials. Q4. What is covered in the course? A4. As of May 2008, we launched our revised class curriculum for pump and fan applications. The one-day class is almost 85% lab work on the following drives: Altivar 21 Altivar 31 Altivar 61 Altivar 71 The S-Flex The E-Flex The M-Flex The Altivar 58, Altivar 31 and S-Flex, Class 8839, 1 to 20 hp, 460 V combination bypass package have been phased out of the class. Q5. How long is the course? A5. This is a one-day class, normally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but times may vary by location. q6. What are the program benefits? a6. Participants who pass the course requirements will be able to: Perform their own start-ups at whatever competitive rate they choose in their own market. List their services on Schneider Electric s Find a DSC Technician database located on our DSC web site and on Access documents and tools created for our members, such as the Extended Online Warranty tool. Display a certificate of completion issued to each student. Offer customers a free six-month extended warranty. q7. What is the difference between the DSC program and the class? a7. The program is managed completely separate from the class. Classes and testing are managed by Square D s training department. You may take the class and test before you apply for membership or after but you must apply for the program membership through our web site to receive the program benefits. q8. What if you took the class years ago? a8. Drives Start-up technicians who attended our older DSC programs prior to May 2008 pump and fan curriculum launch and now wish to upgrade their status to be compliant with our 2008 program standards need to: (1) Apply for program membership on our web site (2) Register for the current class with Square D training and take the new pump and fan class AUTi215 (3) Sign our current liability agreement (for Level 2 program participants). Some participants may be qualified to be grandfathered into Level 1 Factory Trained status. Contact the DSC coordinator for more details.

6 Frequently Asked Questions (cont.) q9. What about becoming an Authorized Service Center (ASC)? a9. This DSC program is a totally separate and independent program from the Square D ASC program. For more info on the ASC program, contact John Kvarta, Charlotte Service Office at x 121 or at John.Kvarta@us.schneider-electric.com. Authorized Service Centers for Square D company are welcome to apply for program membership and use it s tools and benefits. There are no prerequisites or contracts for Level 1 Factory Trained memberships. See our web site or contact the DSC coordinator for more information. q10. Will Schneider Electric still be performing start-ups? a10. Yes, however, the intent of this program is to create an additional set of start-up providers who have a cost structure low enough to be profitable at the market level for pump and HVAC application start-ups. The current start-up system will still exist for customers that prefer to have Schneider Electric perform the start-up as available. q11. Are there prerequisites to taking the class? a11. All candidates should have a working familiarity with basics in motor control and drives in general. You may apply for membership before or after you have completed the AUTi215 class. q12. What are my payment/tuition options? a12. There are three options for payment of fees for this class. (1) Payment is made to Square D training through a Square D account number. If you do not have an account number, you may be able to coordinate this with your local Square D distributor. (2) Membership or sponsorship in a Schneider Electric segment program such as pump, control panel builder or MSP program may qualify you for a discount. Please contact your segment or sales contact for more information and to see if you qualify. (3) Your company may choose to pay for all 12 class seats in advance and select a date and location to fit your needs. Contact the program coordinate at drivesstartup@us.schneider-electric.com to arrange for this option. (4) A credit card option is available. Contact your DSC coordinator for more details at drivesstartup@ us.schneider-electric.com. q13. What do I need to do to get program membership? (1) Apply for Membership with the DSC program. Entering your information (profile data) online on this DSC program web site. You can do this before the class or after you have taken it. Answering all questions is required. Once you are approved, you will be sent a username and password to register for a class. Allow 10 days for processing. (2) Register for a seat in a training class. Visit Schneider Electric s training department web site, The Learning Center, at Utilizing your username and password, complete the registration and follow the instructions to select a class date and geographic location of your choice. Either click on the class option and get a seat in the class or select the option to take the post class test. (3) Attend Class and testing. After attending class, you must log-in to Schneider Electric s training web site again and take the online test. Passing is 80% or higher. (4) Process completion. Once you pass the exam, inform the DSC coordinator of your test score so that, upon verification, we can complete the program. q14. How do I take the class exam? a14. All testing will be conducted online and at the student s convenience on Schneider Electric s training web site. A score of 80% or better is required to pass the test. The training department will issue a certification of class completion to each passing student. If the technician fails, retesting may be possible with proof of additional training by contacting the DSC coordinator for more details.

7 q15. What if I fail the test? a15. Any candidate who fails the course online exam by scoring below 80%, is encourage to access one of our other online drive or motor control courses before requesting an opportunity to re-test for Drives Start-up again. Based on test assessment, this may not be an option offered until additional drive related training has been completed. We recommend the following free online training course offerings from Square D s training web site, The Learning Center ( AC Motor Control Theory (AUTT100) Fundamentals of Electricity (PERE110) AC Drives Introduction (AUTO120) q16. Do I need to fill out Square D s liability agreement? a16. Anyone who wishes to upgrade their Level 1 Factory Trained status to the Level 2 Certified program status must have their name listed on our liability agreement between their company and Square D company. Once an agreement has been received and processed at Schneider Electric, the DSC coordinator will hold this contract until all the program requirements have been completed for each candidate listed on the agreement. The agreement will be signed, processed and returned to you. The original signature/signed agreement should be sent to Schneider Electric, PO Box 27446; Raleigh, NC , Attn: DSC Program. No electronic or faxed signatures will be accepted. Access our web site to download the agreement. q17. What must I do to reach program completion for each level? a17. Level 1 Factory Trained program completion: pass the final online test (Score 80 or above) and notifies the DSC program coordinator. You will then receive an with your password and username into the DSC program Member s Only section where you can access the Extended Warranty Card tool and other program benefits. Allow 10 days for validation of score. Level 2 Certified program completion: in addition to completing the Level 1 requirements, you must also submit the signed liability agreement. A Schneider Electric management executive will process the liability agreement and return it to you with a certification program letter from the DSC coordinator. q18. What if I changed companies, am I still certified? a18. Only the Technician is certified, not the company! However, if he/she leaves their company who has signed our legal agreement, then they loose their certification status and must have their new company sign a new liability agreement with Schneider Electric/Square D. q19. Does the Drives Start-up Certification program certify an individual technician or the company that the technician works for? a19. The Drives Start-up Certification program is for a company, based on the individual who has been trained on the product and certified through testing. But it is the technician on the agreement who has passed the test and must keep his training resume up-to-date. In the event that the technician leaves the company, the company must have another certified employee to perform authorized start-ups. q20. Who carries the liability in the event of a problem with a drives start-up? a20. The company performing the start-up will carry any responsibility for liability with the start-up (see complete liability statement for details, available through the DSC web site). If there is an issue with the Schneider Electric product in the installation, Schneider Electric will support that product as per our normal terms and conditions of sale. q21. What does a drives start-up entail? a21. Drives start-up, for the purposes of this program, is restricted to the start-up of pumps and fans found in a typical commercial HVAC application. A typical HVAC start-up consists of the verification of installation and wiring, the setting of basic parameters in the drives (motor FLA, acceleration time, etc.), verification of motor rotation, and verification of control mode. If any system is not functioning properly, a start-up technician should also be able to conduct basic troubleshooting to determine if the issue is with the installation or the product. Work on a start-up does entail working with energized equipment to ensure that it is functioning properly. DSC technicians should be properly qualified to work on such equipment in a safe manner.

8 Frequently Asked Questions (cont.) q22. Where are classes held and how often are they offered? a22. Training classes are conducted periodically at locations and times that are determined by the online registration roster database. Normally we conduct two open class sessions per month. q23. How many can attend? a23. Classes are usually limited to 12 students. q24. What is an open/closed or special session class? a24. Open sessions class can include employees from multiple companies and cities. Closed sessions class occur when a company has purchased all the class seats for their technicians and are keeping all the seats exclusive from other companies. Special sessions class are where companies can request special training classes to be conducted on-site or at a location convenient to their technicians. These sessions may be open or closed attendance. q25. What about a certificate? a25. All Level 1 Factory Trained candidates who complete the course requirements will receive a certification of completion from Schneider Electric Square D training, which serves as an indication that they are now ready to perform start-ups on the drive models that they have been trained on. Level 2 program graduates will receive an additional certification program letter from the DSC program coordinator reflecting their program completion. It is the responsibility for the Technician to inform the DSC coordinator when they have completed the course exam and need their certificate. Upon verification of passing, certificates are mailed out within two weeks of notification and confirmation. q26. Do I need to requalify each year? a26. No; all technicians are trained on those drive models for the life of that product. Once that drive is modified or replaced with a newer model, then the technician is responsible for contacting us for training so those newer models can be added to their resume. It is the technician s responsibility to keep their training up-to-date. For the most current information on our drive products, go to our web site, q27. What if I am already an ASC or Square D field service drives start-up technician? a27. As of May 2008, if you are a qualified Square D ASC technician or a Square D field services technician then you are invited to apply fro DSC membership. You do not need to do anything except apply online for this program to get membership status under Level 1 Factory Trained status. At this time, there are no prerequisites, no class or test involved and nothing to sign. Upon verification of your ASC employment status, you will be automatically granted access to the Member s Only page and all program tools and benefits. q28. What if an ASC or Square D field service technician wants Level 2 Certified program status? a28. At this time the DSC program can recognize the liability coverage you already have, but you must take the class and pass the exam. q29. If a distributor sells a drive, but is not part of the DSC program, what are their options for providing start-up to their customer? a29. The distributor can choose between several options: They may get a quote for the start-up from Schneider Electric Services They may get a quote for the start-up from any local DSC If they are uncomfortable doing business with a competitive Schneider Electric distributor who is a DSC, there will also be a large network of TAC representatives and MSP reps that will be certified as DSCs (access to these contacts are through our Find A DSC Tech tool online by city/state and zip code) q30. How do I know my customer s drive information made it into the extended warranty program? a30. Using the online warranty card tool, if you do not receive a confirmation when you hit the submit button, then the tool did not capture your submission you will need to close out and re-enter your data. The tool is limited to about 12 entries at a time. If you need a print out of a list of more than 12 drives, you must re-enter the tool again for additional drives.

9 q31. I never received any communication from either the DSC web site coordinator or Schneider Electric s training department. a31. Make sure your spam software or pop-up blocker setting allows for our communication from both the DSC and The Learning Center web sites. The E-Blast tool is the DSC program s only means of communicating information to you in notifying you of any class information and/or new products/offerings via your . q32. How will I find any news about classes or opportunities of a class seat that becomes available at the last moment? a32. The DSC program web site uses an e-newsletter communication tool. An announcement is sent to all of our DSC program participants as soon as an opportunity arises or important news happens. q33. What if I am a TAC (Andover) employee or affiliate, is the process the same? a33. No; TAC s training department usually schedules one class each month at different locations specifically for its employees and partners, so contact them for training opportunities in your area. To get in a specific TAC class you must have your TAC sales order number prior to signing up! If you wish to attend a standard DSC open class session for the general public, obtain your TAC sales order number (PO#) from TAC first, then come back and register for the program on the DSC web site, under Registration: General Instructions. To register with TAC, please complete the following two steps below for each student. (1) Send your company s purchase order to TAC attention: Bruce Stanley at bruce.stanley@tac.com for one each: Part number: SQD-VFDSTARTUP-1SEAT, Description: one seat at Square D AUTi215 class. (2) Please provide the following profile information for each student so that we can register them for the class and give them access to the training web site to take their post test. Send to bruce.stanley@tac.com Name; company; job description; address; phone; (fax number, if no ) Last four digits of Social Security number (This becomes part of your user name) Note: TAC employees: Branch, ES, SI, etc. The liability agreement is unnecessary. Simply indicate your need for the Level 2 Certification program status upon completion of training and testing.

11 Frequently Asked Questions (cont.) q34. How long is the extended warranty for? a34. The extended warranty process is only for an additional six months past Square D s standard 18-month equipment warranty. This is not to exceed 24 months from the date on the order invoice. This applies only to those enclosed drives listed on our program description web page and our liability agreement. The soft starter products are not covered under this extended warranty program (such as Altistart 48 soft start). If the drive s standard 18-month coverage expires before start-up is performed, then the drive is given six months coverage from the date of start-up. q35. What about the cards I used to mail in? a35. This practice was discontinued August 2006 when the online tool was launched. Contact the DSC program coordinator to see if any cards you have submitted since August 2006 are still being held for you. Once you become a program member, these cards will be returned to you so that may enter them into the online tool for your customer. q36. What drive information is required when using the tool? a36. All DSC technicians are shown how to find the serial and model number details for each drive in class. A template [.pdf] is available for all program members print out to assist you when on-site. You must fill out all fields for customer and drive model information for each drive that he/she conducts a start-up on, when using our new online warranty registration process. The old, mailed-in, printed warranty card forms were discontinued as of August 31, q37. How do I know what information to capture while I m on-site with the drive I am starting on? a37. Before heading out into the field for a start-up, remember to print out a customer/drive form template to take with you as a guide to capture all the necessary data until you are able to enter it online. This form is a blank template available for download under the member s section Document Center. q38. I can t find the Q2C number/serial number anywhere on the drive or enclosure: a38. If your drive does not have a Q2C number or you have trouble locating the drive model & serial number plates, go to the document center and download the instructions document online warranty registration Handout 2007 [.pdf]. These instructions were a new insert for the student training manuals as of May q39. How will Schneider Electric field offices be handling the quotation of start-up? a39. If the distributor would like to have Schneider Electric Services perform the start-up, then the field office will coordinate with Services to provide the quotation. If the distributor would prefer any of the options listed above, then they will arrange for a quotation from the party that they would like to provide the start-up. q40. Can we just have the local Schneider Electric drives specialist perform the start-up? a40. For safety reasons, Schneider Electric strictly prohibits any of its employees, who have not been specifically trained and certified for the task, from engaging in start-up or service activity. Our Services division is the only Schneider Electric entity authorized to do this type of work. q41. What can a certified drives start-up technician do for a customer? a41. A certified drives start-up technician can ensure that a customer s drive has been installed and configured properly for the application. The technician also ensures that the drive is properly applied on the customer s equipment. q42. What can a certified drive start-up technician not do for a customer? a42. A certified drives start-up technician is not a repair technician or service center. If a drive is broken, the customer needs to work through Schneider Electric s Product Support Group at 888-SquareD (select option 1 twice) and our services division to arrange for repair or replacement of the drive.
