4 The Survey & Retention Research An Overview Rooted in over 30 year of student development research & 23 year of data Known retention factors evaluate risk Factors are exceptional based on Cronbach's Alpha Cronbach's Alpha, α, used to determine the reliability or internal consistency of Mapworks factors or scales. In general, α = 0.5 is considered acceptable; α = 0.7 is considered good; and α = 0.8 is considered exceptional. 3

6 A Survey How Mapworks helps students succeed Sent to all first and second year students - 4 times per year ed directly to their UAA preferred Provides student feedback in a report - strengths and weaknesses Encourages connections to Advisors, Faculty, Program Staff and other resources on this campus Survey Dates What is Mapworks A Student Perspective? Survey 1 - Fall 2015 Transition September 20 to October 11 Survey 2 - Fall 2015 Check-up November 9 to November 29 Survey 3 - Spring 2016 Transition February 7 to February 28 Survey 4 - Spring 2016 Check-up April 3 to April 24

7 Additional Mapworks Resource Messages What students need to hear from the UAA community All Freshmen and Sophomores take the Mapworks survey The results are confidential, only a small group of UAA staff including your academic advisor see results. Take It -It will take about 15 minutes, you will get 4 surveys total (2-fall & 2-spring) Questions like, are you going to class, friends, working, joining clubs Be honest, there are no wrong answers, this is not a test It s a survey measuring your strengths & weaknesses as you transition to college life Review It When you complete it, your results Green Keep doing what you are doing Yellow Caution, you need to make some improvements Red You need to take action Bring It Take results to your advisor and together you can map a plan for success and review campus resources. 8 How Do Students Benefit?? Mapworks works at UAA 90% 93% of first-year Mapworks students who took either one or both of the fall surveys enrolled in spring 2015 of first- year Mapworks students who accessed their survey reports persisted fall to spring, while those who did not, persisted at 77.9% As professionals the more we know about the UAA student experience the better we can plan and provide programs and services to address real student issues.

28 Bulk Action Getting Things Done in Bulk You can access a bulk action menu from any search result pages Can select multiple students to take actions on Actions bulk referrals bulk contacts bulk notes bulk appointments Can add a students to a static list Access a bulk interface tab in the activity modal All interactions will be recorded on the student's activity feed.
