Media Relations Coordinator Greg Kincaid will serve as the primary contact for the FIU men's soccer team and can be reached in the office at (305) or via at INTERVIEWS All interviews with student-athletes and coaches must be coordinated through the FIU Athletic Media Relations office. For men's soccer interview requests, contact Greg Kincaid at least 24 hours in advance to ensure availability. Please note that interview requests will not be granted on the day before an event, or on the day of an event. Post-match interviews will take place on the field following a team meeting and an NCAA manditated five minute cooling off period. Contact Greg Kincaid with all post-match requests for student-athletes and coaches. GAMEDAY SERVICES Limited media seating is available for FIU men's soccer matches. Please inform Greg Kincaid at least two days prior to the match if you will be attending -- this includes photographers -- and check in with Kincaid upon arrival. The FIU Soccer Stadium is not presently equipped for radio broadcasts. Statistics will be distributed at every home match. Wireless internet is available at the FIU Soccer Stadium, free of charge. MATCH NOTES Updated statistics and notes will be available before every match. CREDENTIALS/PARKING At this time, credentials are not necessary for covering the FIU men's soccer team at FIU Soccer Stadium. There is no designated media parking for FIU soccer matches, however, parking is available in the Panther Parking Garage or across the street from the west side of U.S. Century Bank Arena. PHOTOGRAPHERS Photographers are asked to use good judgement and to exercise caution when photographing soccer matches at FIU Soccer Stadium. Please keep out of the bench areas and stay clear of the the playing surface. 8 FIU Men's Soccer Coaching Staff Ken Arena Head Coach Second Season Virginia Coaching Staff On March 2, 2012, Kenny Arena became the fifth head coach in the history of FIU men's soccer. In just one season, Arena has already made strides in rebuilding the storied Panther soccer program. After leading FIU to its most wins since 2005 in his first season at the helm, he brings in a 2013 recruiting class that s featured on TopDrawerSoccer.com as one of five classes in the country with tremendous potential. Arena led the Panthers to an mark during the 2012 campaign, the most wins since FIU also posted eight during the 2005 season. The Panthers, who outscored their opponents in 2012, return their top two goal scorers in Quentin Albrecht and Colby Burdette. As sophomores last season, the tandem combined for 17 goals and seven assists. Albrecht was a Third All-South Region selection and was also named to the All-C-USA Second team. "We are excited to hire a coach of Kenny Arena's caliber," FIU Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia said. "He has experience in the collegiate, professional and international ranks and will raise the level of success here at FIU. We look forward to seeing him return our men's soccer program to national prominence. We expect nothing but great things for the team's future." Arena, a former Major League Soccer player and University of Virginia standout, spent four seasons as an assistant coach for the UCLA Bruins from During his time at UCLA, he helped lead the Bruins to three Pac-12 titles, three NCAA quarterfinal appearances and a 2011 College Cup appearance. With the Bruins, he was responsible for player development and recruiting. Under Arena, the Bruins produced 35 All- Pac 12 selections, two of the Year honorees and two Freshmen of the Year, as well as, 11 MLS draft picks. Prior to his time at UCLA, Arena was an assistant coach at George Mason in 2007 and a volunteer coach for the University of Virginia in Arena was responsible for player development, recruiting and scheduling at George Mason in At Virginia in 2006, he helped the Cavaliers advance to the NCAA Semifinals, where they lost to UCLA. In addition, Arena had been training and coaching club teams in the Virginia area since Arena played three seasons in Major League Soccer, spending 2003 and 2004 with the NY/NJ MetroStars and the 2005 season with DC United. In 2002, Arena was a member of the U.S. U-23 National and was also a member of the U.S. U-20 National from He played in the 2001 World Youth Championships in Argentina, scoring a goal against the Ukraine. At the University of Virginia, Arena started in 65-of-78 games at midfield from , totaling 24 career points off seven goals (including three game-winners) and 10 assists. He earned all-conference honors as a senior and was twice named to the VaSID All-Virginia team. Arena's father, Bruce, is currently the general manager/head coach of the 2011 MLS Champion Los Angeles Galaxy and was the head coach of the U.S. men's national team from He coached championship teams with DC United and at the University of Virginia. "FIU has hired one of the outstanding young coaches in college soccer," Bruce Arena said. "I think he's going to do an outstanding job building a program at FIU and I see nothing but great things ahead for the program and Kenny as well." "Kenny is a very, very good young coach," University of Virginia Head Coach George Gelnovatch said. "I think it's a fantastic hire for FIU. He's one of the hardest-working guys in terms of recruiting. I see him everywhere. He has also done a very good job coaching with the LA Galaxy Academy U16." As head coach of the U16 LA Galaxy Academy, Arena led his squad to the USSDA National and SoCal Division championships, as well as the 2011 U-17 MLS Generation Adidas Cup. Those three championships were the first in club history. One of Arena's academy players became just the second homegrown player ever to sign with the LA Galaxy. "Kenny Arena is one of the finest young coaches in the United States," Former U.S. National Head Coach and Current Egyptian National Head Coach Bob Bradley said. "He possesses tremendous soccer knowledge and has a real passion to teach the game. Kenny will provide great leadership for FIU soccer." 8

9 Kevin Nylen Assistant Coach FIU Men's Soccer Coaching Staff Second Season St. Anselm Kevin Nylen enters his second season as an assistant coach at FIU after spending the previous two years as an assistant at Boston College. "We are very fortunate that Kevin has decided to join our program," said Ken Arena. "Kevin is one of the best young coaches and recruiters in the country. Our players will immediately benefit from his experience and knowledge of the game." Nylen was a first-team All-America selection at Saint Anselm College and the 2002 Northeast-10 Defensive of the Year. Before beginning his coaching career in August of 2009 at Amherst College, Nylen enjoyed a six-year professional playing career. A 2003 Saint Anselm graduate, Nylen earned the school's Male Athlete of the Year honor, awarded annually to one student-athlete who best exemplifies the Saint Anselm spirit in leadership, scholarship and athletic achievements. Nylen played four seasons for the Hawks ( ), serving as team captain in Upon graduating, Nylen began his professional career, spending three seasons with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the United Soccer League Second Division ( ), before joining the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division for three seasons. Coaching Staff A native of Ipswich, Mass., Nylen holds a United States Soccer Federation "A" coaching license as well as an NSCAA Advanced National diploma. Jean Camere Assistant Coach Second Season FIU Jean Camere is in his second year as an assistant coach at FIU. Before joining the FIU staff, Camere played for St. John's University in New York during the seasons where he competed in the NCAA Division I Final against Indiana. The following year he transferred to FIU and played during the seasons. After starting 14 of 16 games for FIU, Camere earned First- All-Atlantic Soccer Conference honors while leading the Panthers to the ASC Championship. Locally, Camere is an alumnus of Gulliver Prep in Miami, Fla. After graduating from FIU, Camere took on the position of head coach of Boys' Varsity Soccer at Immaculata La Salle High School in Miami. During his tenure at La Salle, the Boys' Varsity Soccer tallied an overall record of while reaching the district finals in each of his three seasons. 10 FIU Men's Soccer Coaching Staff Joe Massi Assistant Coach (Goalkeepers) First Season FIU With nearly three decades of coaching experience, goalkeepers coach Joe Massi has been associated with the FIU men s soccer program since he played on its very first soccer team in The native of Cleveland, Ohio, lettered on both the 1972 and 73 teams, and competed as a member of the soccer team at Miami-Dade College prior to his stint with the Golden Panthers. Coaching Staff Massi has an A coaching license and has worked at all levels of the sport, from the youth leagues up through the professional ranks. Some of his previous coaching assignments include: serving as assistant to current Chivas USA sporting director Thomas Rongen with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers (ASL), helping that organization to the 1989 league championship; assistant to Herb Dunning with the 1983 Miami-Dade junior college national champions; head coach of the 1980 state championship squad at Coral Gables Senior High School; and working with FIU alumnus Jeff Cassar as the goalkeeper coach with the MLS Miami Fusion in Not only has Massi traveled to Europe for many clinics and coaching sessions including spending time in Malmo, Goteborg, Helsinborg, OIS of Sweden, AJAX of Holland and FC Koln of Germany, he has also been responsible for bringing top instructional clinics into South Florida. 10
