MEET YOUR COURSE DIRECTOR: Marcel van den Berg Platinum PADI Course Director / EFR Instructor Trainer # "Let me introduce myself; my name is Marcel van den Berg. I m originally from the Netherlands and now living in Thailand for almost a decade. In 2003, I decided to take a diving course to experience the hype that everyone was talking about. It only took me 20 minutes on my first Open Water dive to realize that you can have fantastic career in this amazing underwater realm. From that moment on, I actively pursued my career in diving. I hold a tremendous passion towards diving which I could share to others during my teaching and turning thousands of students into divers. It didn t take long to decide to advance in my career and continued my education towards Course Director and Specialty Instructor Trainer. Within the first year I achieved Platinum Status from PADI and kept that until this Day. Now I m able to teach the success I had to new Divemasters and Instructors and I look forward to share my passion and success in Diving with you! 4 OVERVIEW To qualify for PADI Instructor Development Course, you'll need to: Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or leadership level with another recreational diver training organization. Be at least 18 years old. Have been certified as a diver for at least 6 months. Be in good physical condition for diving and submit a medical exam form signed by a physician. Have completed and logged at least 100 open water dives with experience in night, deep and navigation. The PADI Instructor Development Course program consists of: Formal training in conducting PADI programs and experience programs. Independent study assignments. Practical application sessions. Written examination. Instructor Development Course (IDC) includes Assistant Instructor Course, Open Water Scuba Instructor and EFR (CPR and First Aid) Instructor. This program will build upon your abilities to organize and supervise dive activities, while concentrating on developing teaching skills. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practical application, candidates learn to construct effective teaching presentations and conduct PADI programs. To help you through the program, PADI has developed an array of learning tools. During the IDC you will use the latest teaching techniques, the complete system of PADI support materials, and will be continuously assessed on your teaching and presentation skills. You will be required to give additional teaching presentations beyond that of the usual IDC Program. This gives you an added advantage not only during the final Instructor Examination (IE), but also prepares you for a future career as a diving professional. Upon successful completion you will be awarded an IDC completion form, which is your passport to the IE. PADI Instructor Exam (IE): Instructor Examinations is conducted over 2 days with PADI Examiners from PADI Asia Pacific. The I.E. includes evaluation of Dive theory, Standard and Procedures, Academic, Confined and Open Water presentations and a Rescue Assessment. 4

5 Optional MSDT Program: After completing the IDC, you can continue your dive education with the MSDT. Sairee Cottage Diving offers one of the best MSDT Programs out there with many extra s! To achieve the full MSDT rating, you need to get 5 PADI specialty ratings and certify 25 students. We will teach you the Specialty ratings and then after completion you can get the 25 certifications teaching any PADI course. Ones you achieved the 25 certifications you can then apply directly to PADI for the MSDT rating. In the mean time you are already allowed to teach the specialties. The Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating is highly recommended as it will increase you changes of employment and you have more options to teach different PADI courses which will only increase your salary. Besides the training dives you will also get extra fun dives. Make a holiday out of your training! To qualify for the MSDT Program, you'll need to: Be a certified PADI OWSI Instructor or have completed the PADI Instructor Exam (IE) The Master Scuba Diver Trainer Program (MSDT) takes 4 days (without the 25 diver certifications). You need a minimum of 5 specialties, but we will teach you 9 for the same price as 5.
