1 MORNING ACADEMIC CLASSES Courses Required for Grades 6-9: Health 6 Sharath.25 Health 6 $6.00 Prerequisites / Requirements 203 The students will learn about many different areas of health, including: nutrition, systems of the body, fitness, first aid, diseases, reproductive health, dating & marriage, self-image, personal hygiene, and drug prevention. There will be a variety of guest speakers and a field trip to the Canton Health Exploration Station. World Geography Young.25 Social Studies Students will learn how to interpret map symbols, merged relief maps, political, and special purpose maps. They will understand the five elements of geography: location, place, human interaction, movement, and regions. Enhancing High School Stickler Students will enter a world of study where achieving the results they want takes less effort and brings greater success than ever before. From taking notes to deciding where to sit in the classroom, how to prepare for and pass tests, or how to write excellent papers, it s all here. Students can use these strategies, build their confidence in school and lower their stress. Health 9 Lupo.25 Health 9 $ Students will learn how to live healthier lives physically, mentally, and emotionally. Topics will include nutrition, exercise, substance abuse prevention, reproduction, first aid, CPR, and conflict resolution.

2 MORNING ACADEMIC CLASSES Electives for Grades 10 & 11 Only: The Finest Hour: How World War II Was Won Townsend.25 History Students will study the key facets of World War II by looking at US involvement on the home front, and the fighting in both the European and Asian theatres. Poetry Workshop Swaffield.25 English Some materials required by teacher 100 The students will learn to appreciate various poets and their unique styles as well as discover their own poetic voice. Foundations of Personal Finance- Dave Ramsey Moore $15 for book 202 The students will learn biblically sound principles of managing money in a changing world. The following topics will be covered: the principles of debt-free living, budgeting, college and retirement planning, buyer beware, and the great misunderstanding. Engineering: Concept to Product Setsuda/Robison $ Science Lab Students will learn basic drawing concepts, visualize a 3D part from a 2D drawing. They will be introduced to basic machining and programming of a CNC machine. They will produce the part that they designed. There will be hands on experience with the machines at the CCI manufacturing site.

3 Electives for Grades : Cartooning V. Baker Purchase of a sketchbook required 261 The design and creation of cartooning fundamentals will be explored. Students will learn how to create an actual cartoon strip, complete with their own original characters and storyline. Digital Video Production Schultz.25 Computers Maximum 16 Computer Lab Students will storyboard and create a digital video and use Windows Movie Maker to edit the digital video. 4 Electives for Grades (continued): Horseback Riding Roskens $200 *discount for parents willing to transport the students Maximum: 8 Mary-Go-Round Equestrian/100 Students will be given horseback riding lessons and will become knowledgeable in horse care with hands on experience. Life in the Country Roskens Maximum: 4 100/Rosken s farm This is for students interested in doing physical labor in the great outdoors. They will learn life skills such as building fences, throwing hay bales, and some landscaping. Becoming Missions Minded Munro Notebook, pen, Bible 102 Do you want to learn little ways that you can impact the world in big ways? Join us as we discuss techniques and fun strategies you can use to fulfill the Great Commission in the context of your life. We will be going on a field trip to put into action what we have learned. Scrapbooking Gallegos /Supplies See requirements Album, glue stick (either photo squares or adhesive 201 runner), storage container (15qt. Size), patterned paper, photos, and small paper trimmer. Students will explore the hobby of scrapbooking while working on completing an album. Experiment with a variety of techniques, products, and tools including: distressing, embossing, stitching, stamping, chalks, inks, rub-ons, fibers, eyelets, brads, chipboard, rhinestones, die cut machines, and punches.

5 C.S.I. Lab Juntunen.25 Science /Supplies $ Have you always wanted to be a crime scene investigator? In this class students will use chemical analysis to solve simulated cases. Let the sleuthing begin! *Electives for Grades 6-8 Only: Fundamentals & Strategies of Basketball Shorts (to the knee), short sleeve t-shirt (no writing), and gym shoes Yost/guest speaker 6-8 Middle School only 15 $15.00 shirts and supplies 203/Gym Students will be taught the basic fundamentals of basketball through classroom learning, drills, and various techniques. The class will include strategies that will make the player more disciplined and successful. *Electives for Grades 9-11 Only: Healthy Living and Weight Training for Males M. Baker 9-11 BOYS ONLY $10.00 Loose fitting sweatpants or shorts (to the knee), short Weight Room sleeve t-shirt, tennis shoes, and water bottle. The students will learn how to properly train their bodies with weights. They will learn how food and nutrition help build lean muscle mass. They will measure their bodies and see how much they grow or loose in the J-Term period.

6 *Electives for Grades 9-11 Only: Weight Training and Healthy Living for Females Haynes 9-11 GIRLS ONLY $20.00 Loose fitting sweatpants or shorts (to the knee), short /weight room sleeve t-shirt, tennis shoes, mat, five pound dumbbells, and water bottle. The students will participate in a number of different exercise programs such as: pilates, weight lifting, and TurboJam. The students will also learn about nutrition and the use of nutritional supplements used to encourage a healthy body. Driver s Education (also Wednesday, May 18 and Friday, June 3, 2011 from 12 noon- 2 PM) Courtesy Driving School 8-11 meeting the requirement of age No FRCS See Ms. O Leary for registration form. Registration and a check for $ (made out to Courtesy Driving School) must be brought the first day of class. Plus $3 book rental fee years and 8 months of age by May 18. No limit Segment One driver s training course includes 24 classroom hours and 6 hours driving experience, enabling students to apply for their permit. Provided through Courtesy Driving School. Mountain Biking Montoro 9-11 $25 Teacher approval required Grab your helmet and let s hit the trails! Students will learn and ride various mountain biking trails in the Metro area. Ed 04/01/11
