1 Kansas association of school Boards Workers Compensation Fund, inc. School Districts Insuring School Districts

2 About the Fund A fundamental guiding principle of the KASB Workers Compensation Fund is the assurance to school officials that local taxpayers will not have to bear the cost of unnecessarily assuming risk even when the marketplace changes dramatically, as it has over the last several years. The Fund makes it possible for member school districts, educational service units (ESU) and community colleges to operate without undue concern regarding the ability to find sound, stable workers compensation insurance coverage at reasonable premiums. Many competing insurance products focus only on achieving the lowest premium costs, without regard for the coverage and services necessary to adequately protect the school district, ESU or community college. As costs rise, many insurance carriers increase deductibles, move claims service out-of-state, reduce loss control and safety services, all while trying to convince the school entity their product is the right one. Although the up-front initial premium cost is generally considered the most significant factor, buyers should also consider the financial impact of not having claim services, loss control services, and lower deductibles. Rather than having profits from an insurance program flow back to stockholders, the Fund is designed to return favorable operating results to the members through dividends or a reduction in future premium costs and better loss control consultations.

4 The Kansas Association of School Boards Workers Compensation Fund, Inc., continues to support Kansas public education by providing competitively priced workers compensation insurance to save school entities money. From our Members KASB Workers Compensation Fund has excellent claims adjusters, great loss control services, and unparalleled communication. Every time we have a question they are responsive and accurate. Jason Dandoy, Assistant Superintendent Business Services and Public Relations, Turner USD 202 After a few years with a commercial workers compensation carrier, we returned to the KASB Workers Compensation Fund because of the excellent service they provide. We know the claims adjusters by name and have a great relationship with them. It is evident they are working diligently to manage claims costs, not just paying claims to get them closed. Beverly Mortimer Superintendent, Concordia USD 333 Our district has been in the KASB Workers Compensation Fund over 20 years, and, even though the Fund went through a couple of tough years, we appreciate the benefits of being in the Fund and have received excellent service every time an employee has been injured on the job. We are very comfortable with the coverage and the consistency of the operation of the Fund. The best indication of service to members was a refund made this last year of a portion of the assessment our district paid to the Fund during those difficult years. Brian Smith Superintendent, Galena USD 499

5 Board of Trustees The Fund belongs to the members. The Fund is directed by eleven trustees who are school board members from across the State of Kansas. The trustees have an interest in the Fund being a success. Fund Membership The Fund is available even when insurance may otherwise be difficult to obtain. The Fund has a unique first-hand understanding of the issues that boards of education and school entities face on a day-to-day basis. Rates are based on risk exposures of Kansas educational entities. School officials can confidently entrust their insurance to the Fund while they focus their attention on the educational matters which are most important to the community. Member Services KASB realizes that a successful self-insurance program is built around member services. Members are informed of all activity on the employees claims. Fund members receive loss run reports that detail the nature of all claims. By reviewing the data, decisions can be made to prevent or minimize future losses and reduce the cost of future insurance. Requesting a Quote School officials who want a premium quotation should submit the current experience modification factor (MOD) and estimated annual payroll separated into the following categories. You can submit this information online at Bus Drivers and Chauffeurs 8868 Professional and Clerical 9101 All Others Fund officials will use this information to calculate a competitive quote for the entity.
