2 Overview: We are excited to be returning to Australia and New Zealand in November 2015, taking the Africa Showcase back into the major city hubs. We will again be working with Luxury Travel Management to deliver the right wholesalers, agents and travel media to the events. In 2013, we worked closely with South African Tourism to ensure all elements of the market were covered and relationships with key industry players were honoured. Partnering with On Show Solutions on this initiative is a great way for us to continue to achieve our objectives of creatively engaging with trade and highlighting that now is the best time to help travellers tick South Africa off their bucket lists. Here is a brief overview to the market to help you establish if Australia and New Zealand are the correct source markets for your business. We have provided overviews of each of the cities will be visiting as well as exhibitor feedback from our last Africa Showcase in this market. City Overviews for 2015: AUCKLAND Auckland, on the North Island of New Zealand and the most populous urban area in the country. There are three major wholesalers based in Auckland, all offering professional knowledge on Africa as a holiday destination. Whilst there is an abundance of VFR traffic, the Africa business has been steadily increasing over the past 10 years. Major travel agency groups operate in the city and surrounding areas, which makes it a key emerging market for travel into Africa. SYDNEY Sydney, the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. Qantas operate daily from Sydney to Johannesburg, making this an important travel hub. Some of the largest Southern Africa wholesalers are head office based in and around the greater Sydney area. In addition to the retail chains, there are many independent premium leisure agents operating in the area, as well as a vast number of Virtuoso agents. 2

3 City Overviews for 2015: MELBOURNE Melbourne, Victoria - the Arts capital of Australia - boasts some of the finest restaurants and quirky shopping alleys. As Melbourne is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in, it naturally has some high wealth residential areas and is a large source market for Africa travel. The retail industry is vast and includes all the major retail groups. From a wholesale perspective, there are four wholesale head offices based in Melbourne and surrounding areas, who in turn have specialist reservation teams assisting the retail agents in their choice of leisure travel to Africa. BRISBANE In the southeast corner of Queensland, is the leisure and beach capital city of Australia. All major retail travel agency groups are well represented and all the major wholesalers have satellite sales teams/offices who are based in Brisbane so the industry is well versed on the destination. Our attendance list pulled Africa buyers from both the North and South of Queensland where many retired high nett wealth families reside. PERTH Western Australia, is the fastest growing state in Australia, due to the booming resource and mining sectors. The state of WA is responsible for more than 52% of the GDP of the entire country, and boasts more millionaires per square capita than any other country in the world. Perth has hundreds of upmarket leisure and corporate travel agencies, and all the major retail travel groups are well represented. The key Australian wholesalers have sales and marketing teams in WA and the majority of Africa business is booked via the wholesale channel due to the destination being highly specialised. SAA operate daily from Perth to Johannesburg. 3

4 Exhibitor Feedback: Australian agents and operators are eager to sell new product in Africa! What a successful road show, with immediate ROI bookings were made at Tswalu within days after the workshops. It was value for money and we will definitely participate in future road shows. Africa Showcase provided us with a base to work towards achieving our longterm goal as it was our first time in this important investment market. Durban as a destination was well received by the wholesalers, which gives us drive to quick wins for our visitor marketing strategy by increasing international visitors to our City of Durban. 5 Exhibitor Feedback: Australia and New Zealand Roadshow was a great success and will bring much needed new clients to Southern Africa. The interest in and enthusiasm for my products and for Africa generally by all I presented to was palpable and rewarding. There is a growing interest in traveling to South Africa and they are also more willing to explore holding opportunity to lure them away from the traditional destinations of Cape Town Waterfront and Johannesburg Airport/Sandton. Also, this market is not too budget conscious as their cost of living is so high they find the prices for South Africa very good we must just not let the DMC s here unnecessarily dilute revenue in a market where it is unnecessary.
