1 Fire and Explosion Consultants, LLC is a private investigation company that provides origin and cause investigation services for fire and explosion losses including, but not limited to, residential, commercial, and industrial structures, vehicle fires, and subrogation and liability products. FEC has built itself into one of the largest private investigation firms providing origin and cause investigation services in the Midwest. FEC is licensed in seven states: Ohio, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, and West Virginia. FEC offers twelve fire investigators with a multitude of education, training, and experience in fire investigations. Our highly trained and experienced IAAI-certified investigators address each loss with professional documentation, which includes photographing, diagramming, interviewing, and collection of artifacts, so a thorough examination of the loss is recorded. FEC also offers a full-time office staff with 24-hour availability. Additionally, FEC has a state-of-theart lab examination area and climate controlled, secure warehouse with 24-hour video surveillance. Our lab features the newest equipment in investigation and data collection. We are also the first to offer live, secure SSL-encrypted video streaming of lab examinations. This capability provides a safe and secure service to our clients to view evidence analysis live from anywhere in the world.

Founded in the beginning of 2012, FEC has provided origin and cause investigative services on over 2,000 losses for 33 insurance companies across seven states, as well as law firms, private companies, and private individuals. FEC manages IAAI-Certified Fire Investigators that have been tried and tested throughout the years. Our investigators are compliant with NFPA Edition, providing the very best investigative services. 4 Who is FEC?, Managing Partner: Mr. Bennett brings 35 years of experience in the fields of fire service, law enforcement, and fire/explosion investigations. He is an active member of NSPII and IAAI, serving as President of the Ohio Chapter in Scott is also a former IAAI "Fire Investigator of the Year." Scott has testified as an expert witness in Federal Court, Common Pleas Court, and Municipal Court in multiple states. Over the course of his career, Scott has investigated and/or assisted in over 5,300 fires., Managing Partner: Mr. Hunter is equipped with 44 years of firefighting, origin and cause investigations, evidence collection, post blast investigations, vehicle fire investigations, and courtroom testimony. He is an active member of both Ohio and West Virginia chapters of IAAI. Jim is retired from the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for 23 years. : Mr. Catron began his fire service career in Currently, Mark is a Battalion Chief and manager of the Fire Investigation Division with the Somerset Fire Department (KY). Mark is on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky chapter of the IAAI. In addition to his IAAI and NAFI certifications, Mark is also a Hazardous Materials Specialist and holds his IFSAC I and II certifications. He has also qualified as an expert witness with experience testifying in Kentucky Circuit Court. Carl Day: Mr. Day has over 38 years of experience in fire service and investigations. Along with being a certified fire investigator, Carl also has extensive experience in Fireworks and Pyrotechnics. Carl has testified as an expert witness in depositions in municipal, common pleas, and juvenile courts. Over the course of his career, Carl has investigated over 1,000 fires and explosions involving various structures and equipment. Steven Ettinger: Mr. Ettinger is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigation. His degree encompassed a broad spectrum of fire investigation techniques, information, and hands-on experience. In addition to his certifications, Steven obtained the IAAI's Expert Witness Testimony certification. Dale Fahrney: Mr. Fahrney brings over 30 years of experience in fire service, fire code enforcement, and fire/explosion investigations. Dale has an Associate's Degree in EMS and Fire Protection Sciences as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. He serves as the Fire Marshal for the Miami Valley Fire District (OH). He was recognized as "Firefighter of the Year" by a panel of Miami Township Business Owners. Additionally, Dale has testified in Common Pleas and Municipal courts as an expert witness. Bud Herndon: Mr. Herndon has over 18 years of experience in the fire service, 14 of which have been as a law enforcement fire and explosion investigator. He is a certified Bomb Technician with the Loudoun County Bomb Squad and an Accelerant Detection Canine Handler. Bud holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology and a Master s of Science in Executive Fire Service Leadership. Bud also has extensive court room experience. Jesus Lopez: Mr. Lopez is a licensed Professional Engineer in 20 states. He has 30 years of experience investigating and testing residential, commercial and industrial electrical distribution systems. His expertise includes medium/low voltage power studies, arc flash risk analysis and mitigation, safety policy, management of change and liability studies. Additionally, Jesus has been court qualified, testifying in several cases over the course of his career.

5 Who is FEC? Bob Marihugh: Mr. Marihugh began his career in fire service in 1968 and has 46 years of experience in the field. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer four-year program and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association. Bob has testified on numerous occasions in depositions and court rooms relating to origin and cause investigations. He has authored articles in national magazines and journals regarding fire suppression tactics and origin and cause investigations. Additionally, Bob invented the "water winch" used in rural water supplies for fire suppression. Dan Rottmueller: Mr. Rottmueller's career in fire service and fire investigation has amassed 35 years. He spent 30 years with the Cincinnati Fire Department and was the Commander of the Fire Investigation Unit for the City of Cincinnati. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and FBI Academy in the fields of fire investigation. Dan has testified as an expert witness in Common Pleas Court, Municipal Court, Grand Jury and Preliminary Hearings as well as Juvenile Court. Dan has personally conducted and/or supervised more than 5,000 fire and explosion investigations. Jeff Spaulding: Mr. Spaulding holds over 20 years of experience in fire service and fire investigations. He is the Hazardous Materials Response Team Captain for the Middletown Fire Department as well as a principal instructor for the Butler Technology Career Development School and an adjunct instructor for Cincinnati State Community College. In addition to his professional memberships, Jeff has authored several chapters of text in the NFPA textbook "Fire Investigator: Principles and Practices" 3rd Edition. Jeff has conducted or supervised over 1,000 fire and explosion investigations. Chuck Strader: Mr. Strader has over 20 years of experience with fire service and fire investigations. He is currently the Battalion Chief and Fire Investigation Bureau Supervisor for the Jackson Township Fire Department. He holds an Associate's Degree in Fire Science, graduated from the National Fire Academy, and is obtaining a degree in Electronics Engineering. In addition to his certifications, Chuck is certified in Hazardous Materials Operations and has published several articles with NSPII. Bob Sullivan: Mr. Sullivan has enjoyed a long, successful career in fire service and investigations. Bob served as the Governor's appointment to the office of Chairman of the West Virginia State Fire Commission. He amassed 20 years with Nationwide Insurance Company as an Investigator with their Special Investigations Unit, and taught fire science at both West Virginia University and Marshall University. He has extensive courtroom experience. Office Staff: FEC's office staff is comprised of four individuals holding an Associate's Degree, three Bachelor's Degrees, and a Juris Doctorate degree. Compiling more than 20 years of office management, human resource management, and financial services management, the office staff is equipped to far exceed the expectations of our clients.

License No Expert Testimony From the Fire Scene to the Courtroom and beyond FEC s Fire Investigators have testified as Expert Witnesses in a multitude of cases, including appearances in Federal Court, Municipal Court, Grand Jury Hearings, and Depositions. All of our investigators have been court challenged and court qualified, equipping them with the knowledge and experience to provide all of our clients with expert testimony. Additionally, we have several investigators that have been published in national magazines, journals, and textbooks related to fire suppression techniques and origin and cause investigations. Our investigators are also instructors; some Certified Fire Investigation Instructors and others college-level instructors.

9 FEC s Evidence Storage Warehouse FEC s main office in Dayton, Ohio has a secure, climatecontrolled warehouse facility where all retained evidence is stored. FEC s warehouse is supplied with a state-of-the-art evidence tracking system. All evidence is secured, barcoded, cataloged, and is easily managed with a complete chain of custody. The evidence tracking database allows FEC to accurately and efficiently manage our evidence inventory.
